The Ithacans will be out in support of OWS today.

I love this map of where the demonstrations will be.

woohoo, the people haz woke up!
Father! The Sleeper has Awakened!
;)

Color me naive if you will, but I haven’t been this hopeful since I was working on the Dean campaign! I know, I know, perhaps that should be a warning sign, but I’m so tired of being cynical.
amk
nader endorsing bloomie for prezinent should go so well with the ows peeps.

The protests in Spain are very large. They are protesting in 60 cities.
In London, they are saying we are the 99%.
Sydney had a band playing.
This is great.
All the pundits who said that the OWS message was unclear and they need a manifesto or whatever, don’t seem to get it.
It’s international now.

You can watch live streams from all the protests here: http://www.crowdsurf.tv/search/?q=Occupy&page=1&event_id=971442

@harlana: I haven’t been this hopeful since I worked on the McGovern campaign.
harlana
@Maude:
Herman Cain: What do they want??
I can tell you this much, Herb, they don’t want YOU.
GregB
I’m off to Occupy NH.
What’s so funny about peace, love and understanding?
harlana
@tkogrumpy: awww, God bless ya!

There is a B of A branch on the “Commons” in Ithaca. It has been attracting quite a bit of attention. The OWS crew has been gathering nearby and they have been polite but effective. There is a second B of A branch on the “strip” south of town. That branch has mostly been left alone.
The good thing about Ithaca is that it does have a strong bias toward local commerce, local food, local music, etc..

i’m sick today plus there is no place to go – but at least i can send them some $

There’s an Occupy event in Phoenix this afternoon, but I can’t go. :( I have my daughters, and it’s going to be well over a hundred degrees. And no facilities for baby-changing. So I’m not going to go. Sad.
But I hope it’s awesome. I hope, I hope, I hope.
Linda Featheringill
@suzanne:
Over a hundred? It’s October!
Anyway, keep the little ones safe and comfortable for today. And you, too. :-)

A rally is planned for downtown Denver, one day after the state – backed by riot police – dismantled the Occupy Denver camp. Considering all the press the eviction was given here in Colorado, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the largest rally yet in the mile high city.
Linda Featheringill
The Guardian is following occupy london. Apparently there was some police action when the protest tried to go to another area but both sides have backed off now. So it’s pretty peaceful.

I feel guilty for not going to Occupy Jacksonville today. Unfortunately, I’m afraid that my presence and any possible media, etc. will hamper my attempt to get into Federal LE. Sucks.

I retain enough respect for Ralph Nader to have been gobsmacked by your comment. Checking it on the PolitickerNY.com website, I was relieved to learn that his “endorsement” was related to his long-standing, albeit quixotic and arguably irresponsible, efforts to break up the two-party domination of national electoral politics.
This excerpt from the article makes that point explicit:
cathyx
@suzanne: Wow, over 100 degrees in October. Yikes.
Maude
@handsmile:
What counts is for you to feel better.
This is about hope and change and it is real.

According to the NYT, the banksters are dismissive.

Heading down to Occupy Tucson later today. They stuffed fliers for it in every copy of the local alternative paper when it came out on Thursday. So this? This should be good.

@Maude: (#22)
???? I’m sorry, but I don’t understand your comment. Was it mean to be a reply to harlana (#14) who mentioned being ill today?
cathyx
@arguingwithsignposts: That reads like an Onion piece.
Maude
@handsmile:
I meant that for harlana and clicked wrong.
Sorry, but hi anyway.
It’s so great to see these protests.

@Linda Featheringill:
Welcome to Phoenix.
God, I hate this hellhole.
(Actually, I don’t. I quite like it, except for the climate and the Republicans. Everything else works for me.)
Linda Featheringill
@Maude: #27
It is quite heartwarming to us aging lefties who have tried and tried and tried to wake people up, to no avail. I personally quit trying when I understood that the people just weren’t ready to be activated.
I think the spread of the occupy movement indicates an awakening. I also think that after people meditate on the 99:1 principle for a while, some actions will start to take place.
[happy dance, filled with hope again]

Today, go BE the message!
harlana
@Linda Featheringill: I felt the same way, just exhausted – I must have used that word a thousand times on this blog
and it’s funny how the “53%” appear to be just 99%’ers who hate their equally dispossessed, disenfranchised neighbors. if you read the stories, many don’t make enough to pay any fed income taxes anyway, where’s the beef?
MikeTheZ
I suppose this is the most appropriate place for a link showing “The 53%” is bullshit

From today’s Al-Jazeera website, an update on “Occupy” protests worldwide:
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia-pacific/2011/10/2011101515123592784.html
The article’s troubling headline, “Occupy protests turn violent in Rome’ is mitigated by reports of widespread popular actions in cities throughout Europe and Asia.
Let me mention one other Italian news item: yesterday Silvio Berlusconi, that platonic ideal of Corruption and political avatar of Hugh Hefner, survived yet another vote of confidence in the Italian parliament. This time, however, by only one vote; several once loyal (always an ambiguous adjective in contemporary Italian politics) parliamentarians voted to disband the current Berlusconi government.
Maude (#27): A resounding YES!!!! It is a thrilling day! And let’s hope it will be a non-violent one (from all sides) as well. (Hi and cheers to you too!)

Remember this image, the one of the champagne swillers. It’s iconic of their side. Now where’s Occupy Wall Street’s iconography?
pete
@MikeTheZ: That’s a fine piece of detective work.

going to occupy sf. In,conjunction with showing solidarity I will also be conducting a quantitative survey goifor one of my classes. due to time and resource constraints it will be a convenience sample (people there willin to participate. hypothesis is that individual consequences of financial crisis it’s an incentive for civic engagement. My group will be surveying in san jose, oakland, and richmond. I have a web-based survey form so if any one is willing to complete out I’ll post threw link later.

Al Sharpton has a march on DC for jobs and justice today. Wapo says thousands showed up. March planned prior to OWS.

Huntsville, Alabama is Occupied with 200-300. Mrs. Monty was one of the primary organizers. A few Ron Paul supporters and Tea Party types in attendance, which IMHO is huge. If just 60% of the 99% got on board, who knows where this thing could go?
jetan
Just got back from Occupy Tulsa. @ 500 which is great for us.
