I’m rooting against whichever teams don’t support choice for women and back a five dollar foot long economy
and AL, hope you’re still enjoying Usagi Drop
Corner Stone
@piratedan: Does the patriarchy have an “official” NCAA team? Or just some mishmosh of same?
Corner Stone
What I love is the tradition being carried on here at BJ.
Kay, SP&T (fictionally a female) and Anne Laurie now dropping over 80%+ of the recent football threads.
What’s the Latin word for “glorious” ?
DMX, you out there?
Phylllis
I bleed Gamecock Garnet, but man oh man has Clemson been fun to watch.
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
Guess what, they play college football every Saturday from Labor Day through the first week of December. It shouldn’t be necessary to whine or be sarcastic. Just put the damn thread up. (ps, they start at NOON not three).

@Corner Stone: LOL, If I had to wager, they invented football so all of the best restaurants would be empty when they chose to luncheon, reduces the probability of having to interact with someone making less than 500K a year….
as to the other, I would look to the private institutions like Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Rice and naturally most of the Ivy league.

@Raven (formerly stuckinred):
Couldn’t the football threads be scheduled to appear at the proper time?
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@Violet: Beats me, I just hang around here. I think “they” like to make us beg so they can make funny little comments.
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
Great, Hokies go 3 and out and BC walks in for a td after a 20 yard punt.
Corner Stone
Speaking of patriarchy, wtf is up with the new Dr. Pepper 10 commercials where the tagline is “It’s not for women”.
What the hell does that even mean?
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@Corner Stone: It means their market research has determined that annoying, silly ass commercials are effective.
eta Especially to whiny sarcastic fat ass motherfuckers.
piratedan
@Corner Stone: it means that there are enough men who are conscious enough about their weight that they can target a soft drink to them and appeal to their masculinity versus being associated with a feminine need to watch their weight. Idiotic, remains to be seen if its effective.

I’m kind of bummed for this week. Liverpool just threw away two points at home to Norwich City, by giving away a 60th minute equalizer when they were dominating the match. Feh.
Keith
Hoping for Auburn to pull off the upset, but I’ll be satisfied with them not getting blown out (their passing game SUCKS this year).

@Corner Stone:
You’re talking about it. That’s what it means.

@Raven (formerly stuckinred):
What’s more, FYWP has a post scheduling feature, so they could theoretically schedule the rest of the season (both college and pro) today.
But that wouldn’t be readership capture.

Speaking of football and whining, has anyone checked to see if John has drowned in his own respiratory secretions or something?
He’s not on the twitmachine or anywhere I can see. Just concerned ‘s all.
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@Keith: Faacck Auburn!

BTW,thanks Anne Laurie. Love ya, babe.
Now bring me that bag of chips, and make me some tacos. Thanks, hon.

All my teams suck and are hopeless. Who should I root for, and why? (pointless metaphysical exercise, but for justice and truth….)
JGabriel
Football? That’s the one where people run around with the ball in their hands, instead of kicking it around with their feet, right?
If so, it’s not a very appropriate name. Shouldn’t they call it tackleball instead?

@jgabriel …. Etymologically, wasn’t this ‘foot’ ball as opposed to games played mounted on horseback?

The big question this weekend is who will put up more points – Nebraska against the Gophers or the Packers against the Vikings? I am thinking over 100 points combined. Looks like a bad weekend for football in the Twin Cities.
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@JGabriel: This is America, I’m sure there are some frenchy blogs that have the nomenclature correct.

I like posts that snark at football
freaksfans.It’s not like y’all are exactly an OPPRESSED MINORITY around here.

@efgoldman: And BC continues to lead the Hokies.

Bad news reported by the Buzzard County (West Virginia) Clarion Almanac & Prayer Sheet:
Jackson’s Holler- One of them Cole boys- the one who ain’t quite right- was found expired on his davenport this mornin’, accordin’ to Sheriff Dunwiddie. Sheriff is to thinkin’ that the boy was crushed to death under the weight of a large feline of the cat persuasion.
“I always told the boy that keepin’ a tiger in the county might be legal,” said the Sheriff, “but it be best to send it back to Africa.”
Ain’t gonna be no services ’cause the boy is certainly goin’ to be tormented by Satan for eternity, what with all the librul baby-killin’ talk he did with Yankees on the computer box.

As a UCLA grad, when does College Basketball start? I turned on UCLA/AZ and saw they had already hanged 42 points on us; silly me, I figured it was nearly over, but that was just the first half. I would have fired Neuheisel at halftime. Not joking.

Just because the nefarious Greek persons are bankrupting Europe and then the NFL. It’s all a pan-Hellenic soc.ial.ist banker conspiracy to take away our pigskin freedoms!

To make matters worse, it was a large WHITE tiger that had somehow learned to jam the remote to ON, LOCK CHANNEL and MAXIMUM VOLUME when the Steelers were losing. All of which proves that there is such a thing as a free Tunch.
Mino
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): Guess that sherrif doesn’t watch Animal Planet or Carmen Diego.
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@Morzer: White Tiger is my neighborhood eatery!
Mino
@Raven (formerly stuckinred): Shouldn’t that be White Tiger Up the Peach Tree Restaurant?
Morzer
@Raven (formerly stuckinred):
Tunch ate your neighborhood? That cat really is the feline Goldman Sachs of our age!

Time to watch a fourth grader play his last game of the season. Later!

@Mino: This be Athens, not that nasty ATL.

@Raven (formerly stuckinred): Oops. Guess I didn’t watch enough Carmen Diego, either.

@Yutsano:
I’m actually of the opinion that it’s Guerrero who’s the real problem here. Well, actually, no he’s not the real problem either. But it feels good to hang this on him at this point.
The Dangerman
@handy:
I’ve heard it’s bigger (though Guerrero’s seat may be pretty hot, too). There are lots of rumors, including:
1) UCLA people not in the athletic department are pissed that Howland makes so much money…
…which means…
2) UCLA will never pay the huge bucks for a Coach (we got Rick on the bargain bin as I recall).
3) I’ve heard Donahue, who’s only been gone forever, still gets some input on who gets hired (thus, Dorrell and Neu).
Toss in the extra fixings like a long commute to the stadium, it being a basketball school, the academic reputation (shit, I’d never be able to get in any longer; I’ve heard of 4.0’s not making the cut to get in) that doesn’t give a crap about football (see long commute above) and, well, Guerrero has a mess. His contract was posted on one of the boards last night; Dude makes a LOT of money and hasn’t really done a whole lot for his pay.
Mino
@Raven (formerly stuckinred): Heh, the set-up is kind of Norwegian Blue. Clever, too.
handy
@The Dangerman:
Yeah that’s why I threw in “he’s not really the problem either.” In addition to all the things you’ve mentioned I’ve also heard that the Chancellor and the Regents aren’t too keen on the “Big Boy” money contracts you see at the top SEC programs, for example.
As for the Regents, Cal has a decent (and consistently good) football program. Hell, UCLA had one a little over a decade ago. The stadium situation is a problem, but yet there was a time in the late 90s when a ticket to a game at the Rose Bowl was one of the hottest in town.
It’s really a different school now from when I went there so maybe it’s time to turn the page, but I’m an alumnus who always wanted FB to be topflight, but that’s not gonna happen so what do.
slag
@Corner Stone: Not every manly man spends the day watching a bunch of guys in tight pants and shoulder pads run around slapping each other’s ass. You can’t all be Spartacus.

@slag:
I pity those poor souls.
The Dangerman
@handy:
I’m of the opinion that UCLA should be topflight in just about everything it does (and it’s got a fine record in that regard, academically and athletically), but FB is a problem that goes back a long ways. I’ve thought a campus stadium (converting Drake, though that seems to be impossible now) or at least a closer Stadium (say, the VA grounds, also basically impossible, as is any Westside stadium as the locals would shit bricks from here to there) might help solve the problem, but that solution isn’t going to happen. But, that’s why Guerrero is paid the big bucks, to come up with answers, but…

Go Hokies!

Well, Auburn got smashed by LSU, so it’s up to Alabama to do the same to Tennessee to salvage my evening (although there is some decent boxing on HBO tonight to ease the pain)

Stanford stomps another opponent tonight, this time Washington. They ought go up in the BCS standings, after two teams above them in the standings (Oklahoma and Wisconsin) both lose.
