Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

I desperately hope that, yet again, I am wrong.

Spilling the end game before they can coat it in frankl luntz-approved dogwhistles.

…and a burning sense of injustice to juice the soul.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Ron DeSantis, the grand wizard, oops, governor of FL.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

No Justins, No Peace

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

It’s a doggy dog world.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

It’s not hopeless, and we’re not helpless.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Hate late games. I’m always all discombobulated. Football starts at 1 o’clock.

So why do you insist on starting it at 10:00 AM?

But they have multiple games to play on any one day and if everyone is to get a chance to see all the games, they need to stagger game times. At least with football you have a set time for how long a game lasts and therefore you can stack game times. Do you want to cut the number of games you can see each game day?

(I don’t know much about sports and I don’t watch; just remembering Sunday afternoons when I dated someone who did watch a lot of football.)

In order to score against a defense, one must have an offense. There is still insufficient evidence Seattle has either.

From the ever-growing list of Things I Did Not Know:

During the first sixteen weeks of the schedule, both Fox and CBS are each given eight doubleheaders. The two networks alternate doubleheaders, but not necessarily week-in and week-out. The networks never run three consecutive weeks of doubleheaders. Fox insists on having a doubleheader on the Sunday it airs Game 4 of the World Series, and uses the featured 4:15 game as a lead in for the baseball playoffs.

    Which happens to be today.

So the locally broadcast Browns/Seahawks on CBS precludes the local ability to see the Nordic Dairy Meltoff, in favor of two teams I care for not at all, and an essentially meaningless baseball outing.

Conclude: AT&T meets its match in NFL broadcast contracts.

It may be time for this Lambs game to be put out of its misery, on both sides of the ball.

Here’s Douthat, John, in the highly likely case you weren’t paying attention:

Romney “embodies the very tendencies that the conservative movement came into being to resist: technocracy, ideological flexibility, Northeastern moderation” and is “America’s most opportunistic politician”. But “Romney is improbable, but his rivals are impossible, and so he will be the nominee”.

What’s more, Republicans have only themselves to blame for his inevitability. Romney owes his current position to two failures: the Bush era’s serial disasters, which left the Republican establishment without a strong bench of viable national politicians, and the Tea Party’s mix of zeal and naivete, which has elevated cranks and frauds and future television personalities to the party’s presidential stage.

To date, neither the establishment nor the populists have come to terms with the failures of the last age of Republican dominance. And despite occasional flashes of creativity, neither has groped its way to a credible vision of what the next conservative era should look like.
What they have to offer instead is a largely opportunistic critique of a flailing liberal president.

Glad to hear you are feeling better today.

I don’t think Kolb makes it in the long run, too many of his passes get batted around and he acts scared in the pocket.

    @2liberal:

It’s an arithmetic problem which has caused Whiz to manage a losing record, and lose 3/4 of his games in the last two years, with a team that took him to the Superbowl not long ago.

The problem is that he has a 20 point offense and a 30 point defense. Just got them backwards, is all. 20 point offenses don’t win in the NFL, and 30 point defenses don’t win in the NFL. So on each point, the team is doomed. Together, they could lose all their remaining games this year, possibly, with a good deal of talent on the field. Mismanagement on a rather dramatic scale.
