Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

T R E 4 5 O N

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

Joe Lieberman disappointingly reemerged to remind us that he’s still alive.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

This blog will pay for itself.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

New Attack Ad Calls Elizabeth Warren the “Matriarch of Mayhem”

Fail.

Check out this new attack ad brought to you by the Massachusetts GOP and whatever crackpot ad agency that thought this was a good idea:

From Raw Story:

Republicans in Massachusetts have chosen a confusing line of attack on Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, the Democrat who helped create the Consumer Financial Protection Agency and is now challenging Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA).

They’re calling her, for some reason, the “Matriarch of Mayhem,” and suggesting that “Occupy Wall Street” is somehow an “anti-capitalist” movement that she secretly leads.

Brace for the scary music.

In a new ad released this week, the Massachusetts GOP tries to connect Warren’s comment that the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters are calling for financial reforms — similar to those she helped author — with a couple of fringe protesters whose on-camera comments are taken severely out of context, as if they represent the tens of thousands who’ve participated in marches over the last month.

The ad also quotes Warren saying she’d “thrown rocks” at people who don’t support her (she was speaking rhetorically), and implies that she literally wants “blood and teeth on the floor” if the U.S. does not get a strong consumer watchdog.

Her other comment quoted in the video — “My first choice is a strong consumer agency… My second choice is no agency at all and plenty of blood and teeth on the floor” — was a hockey reference meant to urge the president and Democrats in Congress to fight for a strong agency.

But try explaining that to the Massachusetts GOP.

Professor Warren makes Republicans nervous.  She’s personable, smart, funny, (and cute as hell, despite what Scott Brown thinks).  The GOP is going to need to do a lot better than the above spot of ridiculousness if they are going to hang on to Teddy Kennedy’s seat.

In other news, if anyone wants to join my new girl band “The Matriarchs of Mayhem” I’m looking for someone who plays a mean cowbell.

WoW. Talk about hyperbole over reach. This is Mass we are talking about, not Ala fucking Bama. reeks of desperation and fear, putting something out this shrill on a thus far popular movement with the public.

Also too: Leave it to the GOP to make their opponents sound really cool. Matriach of Mayhem? She should get a cape.

Are Republicans actually stupid enough to believe that Warren said what she said without her campaign figuring out that it was the smart thing to say for the election, I mean, do they think that Warren didn’t ever consider her position on the issue and just said “oh hum de dum I consider myself partially responsible” out of the blue?

There’s not even a whiff of the “ACORN = OWS = Red Sino-Mexicans” line on Fox News right now. FoxNation is a different story, but that’s airspace for trial balloons.

Right now they’re running an “OWS has $500,000 in donations” bit that I assume is meant to get people to throw money at Mitt. Romney’s campaign reminds me of one of those colonial voyages where the English bailed out their constantly sinking hole-filled ships for weeks to make it to Bermuda, just in time to contract fatal dysentery.

He is “Dougie” Schoen and he is a professional douchebag for Fox News, here are the actual numbers from the poll he conducted if you want to see what a liar he is about OWS

What frustrates you the most about the political process in the United States?
    30% Influence of corporate/moneyed/special interests
    3% Our democratic/capitalist system
    3% Stagnant middle class wages
    21% Partisanship
    15% Joblessness
    6% Income inequality
    7% Corruption
    2% Entrenched bureaucracy
    2% Bush tax cuts
    2% Obama abandoned left
    2% Military spending
    2% Federal Reserve
    5% Everything

What would you like to see the Occupy Wall Street movement achieve?
35% Influence the Democratic Party the way the Tea Party has influenced the GOP
    4% Radical redistribution of wealth
5% Overhaul of tax system: replace income tax with flat tax
    7% Direct Democracy
    9% Engage & mobilize Progressives
    9% Promote a national conversation
    11% Break the two-party duopoly
4% Dissolution of our representative democracy/capitalist system
    4% Single payer health care
4% Pull out of Afghanistan immediately
    8% Not sure

In other words OWS reflects majority American opinion and anti-capitalism sentiment is a Total Myth

I don’t think enough has been made of how this poll, which is the Last Desperate Hope story engine for a lot of right wing media, actually demonstrates that OWS is made up of ordinary Americans who share their POV with the majority of this country, and that the fringe left is just as fringe as it’s always been and is actually outnumbered in OWS by the Ron Paul dorks.

Trust me, Fox and the Republican candidates are going to be lying about the numbers from this poll for MONTHS. I’d start mocking it now.

Just ruminate on that: by a slim majority among the tiny percentage of participants with radical views, more people in OWS support Herman Cain’s tax plan than support the overthrow of capitalism. And the poll that demonstrates it is the foundation Fox plans to build from to win 2012.

I now have a fantasy of the Dems taking back and the House, and Elizabeth Warren replacing Harry Reid, just so I can live to see the day that we have The Matriarch of Mayhem running the Senate and NANCY SMASH! running the House.

I love that name so much! Matriarchs of Mayhem is going to be my next MMO guild name. Ok I admit, that is about a million times dorkier than a rock band, but I can’t help it the name is too awesome. Please tell me someone got the url for the Warren campaign.

ABL, the Mothers of Mayhem need someone who plays mean cowbells. One cowbell isn’t mayhem, just annoying.

Unless it’s BOC’s DftR. That cowbell is acceptable. :)

@General Stuck: It wouldn’t track in Alabama either. Way too many words.

@SC Ulam: too bad Linda McMahon isn’t in Massachusetts, they could have a steel cage death match.

    @Joey Maloney:

It could be her Roller Derby name!

Nah, “Matriarchs of Mayhem”, thats the team man. Her handle would have to be something like “Warren Piece”.

@Cat Lady: perhaps a re-working of the 1993 SPY Magazine cover that featured Hillary Clinton?

The Matriarch of Mayhem. Hilarious. Makes her sound like she’s a boss enemy in the game Dark Souls.

ABL, I would love to be a “Matriarch”. I’m thinking of heavy metal, big hair wigs and Kiss-style makeup. Too over the top do you think? LOL

    No capes!

But please, oh please, make some bumper stickers. And I’d donate to her campaign (even though I’m on the west coast) if there was a youtube video of Warren actually being introduced at an event with SC Ulam’s copy. Brilliant.

And for the record, more cowbells
