Well, my team actually won – and Eddie Guns officiated, so I’m a happy grrl.
@Steeplejack: Steepman! How the hell are you?
Steeplejack
Hope springs eternal, any given Sunday, etc. After all, the Rams beat the Saints today, and even Minnesota won. But, yeah, looks bleak for the Stillers. I mean, Brady is en fuego.
edmund dantes
Looking good so far for the Steelers.
cokane
DOWN WITH PISSBURG
Martin
@edmund dantes: That’s only because Ben hasn’t had time to slip roofies to any of the Pat cheerleaders. He’ll get, er, distracted, at half time.
passerby
Beautiful first series by the Stillers.
[please please please beat the pats]
jeffreyw
You will be needing some finger food for half time.
Batocchio
The Steelers are looking good so far – but I imagine you think that means they’re setting you up with false hope.
asiangrrlMN
@jeffreyw: I need that NOW!
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
sup knuckleheads?

Trust in Mike Wallace, John. The man is magical. My fantasy team is 10x better this year and one of the big reasons is Wallace.
(And just as I type this, Wallace dances around NE tackles.)
edmund dantes
Still looking good for the Steelers. Heath Miller is decimating the Pats all by himself.
passerby
Brady sacked for a loss of 152 yards!
MikeBoyScout
Looks like Stillers came to play today. Loving it.
jeffreyw
@asiangrrlMN: I made those special order. I think I can fit you in next week. You still have your coupon?
Short Bus Bully
Love watching my Seahawks lose…

my teams are teh cardinals and the patriots. the cardinals just lost for the 6th time in a row and the patriots can’t stop rapistberger.
Ira-NY
Hard for Brady to do much when the Patriots never have the ball.
Lockewasright
It’s a good thing my Buckeyes pulled off the upset yesterday, because my Broncos are not good at all. Tebow has completed two out or ten passes. That’s TWO out of TEN! Perhaps a little more time working on his mechanics and a little less time filming commercials telling people about whose situation he knows nothing how they should live their lives would be a good idea.

You could improve your fan-dom by rooting for better teams and/or conferences…say…something to the east and to the south?
NFC-South…except for NOLA this week it appears…
edmund dantes
Patriots really haven’t stopped the Steelers once yet. The interception was Ben being an idiot. So long as the Steelers stay away from stupid mistakes, they are going to kill this game.
MikeBoyScout
@23edmund dantes:
Me thinks you are on to something.

One more half like that, and I’ll be singing while I make delicious shrimp fried rice for dinner. Got the mise en place all ready to go and dinner will be ready within 15 minutes of the end of the game. Maybe even TWO bottles of wine if the Stillers pull it out. Got a good show about characterization on tv on PBS and the first episode of Next Iron Chef to look forward to tonight. This might just be a very good day.
jimmiraybob
The Rams got a shot of vitamin La Russa and the Cardinals before the game.
Martin
Just think, if football could change the game to only have two 2-minute halves, you could get all of the games on one channel, so you’d never miss anything, but the Pats would never lose a game.
Lockewasright
@geg6:
I’ll be making chicken soup tonight. My son’s kindergarten is a freakin’ petri dish! I have this cheaters’ recipe where you buy one of those whole, cooked rotisserie chickens from the grocery store and then set the meat aside and boil the skin and bones in chicken stock to make the broth. Then you dump it through a strainer into a big bowl, put the pot back on the stove and saute the veggies, add the stock and meat back in and let it simmer. Boil egg noodles separately and voila!
Smokin’ baby back ribs over hickory on Tuesday!
Yutsano
@Lockewasright: That’s not cheating. That’s how it’s done! :)
@geg6:
I should hope so. It’s me birfday and a Marine ordered me to have him cook me a steak. I’ll even put slacks on to comply with that!
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@Yutsano: Happy Birthday! I knew there was something(s) I liked about you. Scorpio!
arguingwithsignposts
@Yutsano: happy birthday!
Amir Khalid
@Yutsano:
Hapi birfday!
Yutsano
@efgoldman: Are switching the clocks tonight? I’M ALL CORNFUZZLED NOW!!
J.W. Hamner
I can’t decide if I’d rather the Pats or the Steelers to lose today… one the one hand, living in Boston makes Patriots fans’ tears soooo delicious, on the other hand, as a Ravens fan, I know that every time the Steelers win a kitten dies. It’s a conundrum.
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@Yutsano: Next week, Time will fall back to standard time again on Sunday, November 6, 2011, when daylight saving time ends.
jurassicpork
I hope you’re feeling better about your Steelers, now, John. I thought you were.
While we’re waiting for halftime, here’s a way to keep you occupied: Gov. Ricky Retardo’s the half chewed piece of hot dog in the esophagus of America.
Lockewasright
@Yutsano:
Happy Birthday and congrats on completing another trip ’round the sun!
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@jurassicpork: Um, it’s the third quarter.
edmund dantes
Just brutal defense by the Pats so far. It’s shocking this score is not more in favor of the Steelers.
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@Yutsano: Oooo, oooo I been wanting to use this “Happy Birthday”!
Yutsano
@Raven (formerly stuckinred): THAT. IS. AWESOME!!
ETA: and the Lions are running all over Jeebus Boy. I’m giddy.
cathyx
This weekend is the weekend that clocks would have changed if they didn’t extend the daylight savings time. And I have 3 clocks that have preset time changes built in so that I don’t have the hassle of changing them twice a year. Except now that the dates have changed for when we set clocks back, I now have to change my clocks 4 times a year instead of never. Ugh.
MikeBoyScout
Clearly ACORN is behind this.
Raven (formerly stuckinred)
@cathyx: “It’s always something”
roseanne roseanna danna
Joel
Not happening yet. But Woodley just went down.
P.S. Ryan Clark is one of the dirtiest players I’ve ever seen. And that includes “Big Bang Clock” Brandon Meriweather.
Thoroughly Pizzled
@Yutsano: Clearly, God prefers the Lions to the Broncos, but he prefers the Broncos to the Dolphins.
Joel
@Yutsano: You might say that the Christians are being fed to the Lions.
That was too easy. I can’t believe no one else made that quip.
cathyx
@Raven (formerly stuckinred): That lady was my soul sister.
R-Jud
@Yutsano: Hail, fellow Scorpio. My birthday is tomorrow; I get to spend part of it having highly intimate pictures of myself taken (by a radiologist).
OT: I don’t mean to barge in on the handegg action, but do any of you cat owners have a really good covered litter tray you’d recommend?
The new addition scrapes about 3/4 of her litter out of the tray with every visit (along with the leavings).

Happy birthday Yutsie! Mine is on Thanksgiving. I love when it falls right on the holiday.
Lockewasright @28:
What a coincidence! My John made chicken soup for lunch today from half a roasted chicken he made for dinner the other night. It was delicious and there is plenty to take to work for lunch. That and an apple from the local orchard that he bought when up at our cabin in Titusville will make me feel healthy enough to fight off the germs that are rampant on a college campus. I hope.
Stillers are freaking me out. Damn, I want them to beat the Pats. I hate the two Bs: Brady and Belichek.
Linkmeister
@cathyx: Yes. Congress outsmarted the clock business. Thanks, twerps!
cathyx
@Linkmeister: I’m actually very glad they extended the DST. I hate standard time. My body never adjusts to it. It’s very difficult for me until we go back to DST again in the spring, then I’m back on track.
catclub
@Lockewasright: Life may not be cheap, but it does include a trip around the sun every year.
SRW1
Sorry, don’t mean nothin to me. The Gunners stormed the bridge, this weekend is safe.
Yutsano
@R-Jud:
I had a meeting with my manager last week. She commented on my birthday along these lines. “No wonder we get along so well!”
Okay I LOLed.
Kristine
@Yutsano: Happy Birthday!!
robertdsc-PowerBook
The Pats just don’t have it today. Congrats, John. Give Tunch an extra scritch for me.
Old Dan and Little Ann
Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllleeeerrrrsssss.
Other than Brady breaking his leg, so far so good. Fuck the pats!
J.W. Hamner
@robertdsc-PowerBook:
Pulling out the reverse jinx, eh? Good call.
If I was a Steelers fan I’d be a little worried that they’re moving the ball at will, but only getting field goals.
Joel
@Old Dan and Little Ann: Brady breaking his leg? Stay classy there!
Joel
@J.W. Hamner: Trust me, when the Patriots defense plays a game like this (predictable blitzes, blown zones, etc.) they’re not going to improve any.
sistermoon
BIIIILLLLSSSS!!!
Sorry, couldn’t help it.
piratedan
my team sucks….. sighs
Omnes Omnibus
@Yutsano: Happy birthday. But do people actually use the word slacks anymore?
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
No wonder the other thread had gotten so slow…
BTW: Tebow demonstrated again that he has a weak arm by throwing an “out” that went for a Lions’ pick-six.
Ooooo, the Christians just scored a TD, cutting the Lions’ lead to 35 points (45-10). I think they might be within miracle distance now.
Yutsano
@Omnes Omnibus: I have no idea. I just did.
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): Needs moar kittehs.
J.W. Hamner
@Joel:
23-17. Just sayin’ I don’t want Tom Brady within two scores of my team with what was at the time roughly 6 minutes. Still think the Steelers will win though.
cathyx
@J.W. Hamner: This Steeler fan doesn’t care if every score they get was from a safety as long as they win.
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
Happy Birthday! Are you wearing Sansabelt or Haggar?
ETA: That’s meant for Yutsano.
Uh…FYFWP?
Old Dan and Little Ann
@Joel: Sniff-sniff. Belicheat’s camcorder must have been broken this week.
Joel
@J.W. Hamner: The missed call on the Gronkowski TD might actually matter here. Not that Pittsburgh doesn’t deserve to win. They absolutely dominated Vollmer, attacking the right side of the Patriots line all day long. Even Brian Waters couldn’t cover for Seabass’ incompetence.
On the other side of the ball, they really smoked the Patriots’ linebackers, particularly Spikes and Mayo (don’t even know why he’s back), in coverage.
Joel
@Old Dan and Little Ann: Holy crap, it’s like BJ imported trolls from the Yahoo message boards. That’s not even B.O. Bill-level trollery.
J.W. Hamner
Not even Tom Brady can get a TD with only 19 seconds, right?
SiubhanDuinne
@jurassicpork:
Good grief. A combination of Saint Vitus Dance with a Bad Lip Reading edit.
J.W. Hamner
J.W. Hamner:
LOL. I guess he can get a safety in 19 seconds though.
EDIT: *under review*
Joel
@J.W. Hamner: Nope. Only Tebow does that.
hrprogressive
Hey how about that, I actually picked the Burgh to beat Brady this time around.
And I was right.
Suck it, Pats fans.
Litlebritdifrnt2
Whocoodaknowed my DH tells me that the Stillers are winning. Cue John Cole drunken tweeting and blogging for the rest of the night.
Old Dan and Little Ann
@Joel: Yup. That’s me. Just trolling away b/c the Steelers are my team and I HATE the pats. Please excuse my excitement for watching the Steelers beating these fucksticks from New England after they’ve had the Steelers’ number all friggin’ decade. And if you’re a proponent of secretly video taping an opponents practices then godspeed.
SiubhanDuinne
Yutsano, happy birthday!
handy
Damn those Niners win AGAIN! (Yeah it was against Cleveland, so?)
SamR
Pats didn’t deserve to win that (what’s with all the play-action? That only works if you can run the ball) but man, was that a ref screwjob at the end with the claim that Gronk didn’t break the plane when he caught it in the end zone and Polamalu’s deliberate swatting of a fumble, which led to this immortal announcing:
Jim Nantz: Oh, what a heads up play by Troy Polamalu!
Phil Simms: Well, its illegal…
Oh well. The Steelers are definitely the most improved team in the league since the start of the season, and the Pats still can’t beat top teams on the road.
Yutsano
And the Seachickens continue their long slow spiral into mediocrity. If I’m Andrew Luck I come back for my senior year.
different-church-lady
I assume you took the brace off around halfway through the third quarter?
nick
The Lions tore up another Christian.
Mustang Bobby
The Lions showed the Dolphins how to beat Denver: Have a better team.
chrome agnomen
man, you patriot haters are sure haters!! ever give that any thought?
S. cerevisiae
@Yutsano: Happy birthday, but the Seahags should have talked to a few Viking fans before signing T-Jack as a starter. Rice is great when he is healthy, the only problem is keeping him that way.
Ron
@SamR: I have to agree it was a bad call with the non-TD, but that is on Belichick to challenge there. That was a huge mistake not to challenge. The Polamalu thing was just probably an instinct. Even if they call it correctly there was no way the Pats win at that point.
different-church-lady
@Ron:
The tricky part was that there was no replay for them to see before throwing the red flag. Usually the coaches in the box get to see the network replays and call down to the field and tell them to throw the flag before the next play goes off. But in this case you have a choice to make — wait for a replay and let precious seconds run off the clock, or line up again quickly to save time, which means the network isn’t going to cut away to a replay.
burnspbesq
Giants won and Jets had a bye.
Arsenal won. Galaxy won. Not only did the Duke women win, the Carolina women lost (to FSU!).
A great weekend, with one huge, festering exception.
SamR
@Ron: Fair point, it is on the coach to challenge ref mistakes. And the Pats had both challenges.
james
Steelers win did not make me surprise.
