Anybody else going to watch the Denver Tebows play in Tebow Stadium on Tebow TV? God I hope he gets his ass sacked by the Lions, I’m sick of hearing about him. I’ll be a Detroit fan just this one week for no other reason.
The song is an up-tempo, electric guitar-driven, modern rocker that features the work of E Street Band members Max Weinberg on drums, Garry Tallent on bass guitar, Clarence Clemons on saxophone, Steven Van Zandt, Clemons and Patti Scialfa on background vocals, and Nils Lofgren on a guitar part underneath Clemons’s sax solo. The opening guitar riff and chord progression are somewhat reminiscent of Tommy Tutone’s 1982 hit “867-5309/Jenny” with Tommy Tutone lead singer Tommy Heath quoted as saying: “Everybody’s calling me about it,”[1] and that, “I think it’s close enough that if I wanted to [take legal action], I could work with it.”

Hey, the Niners are really good this year. Outside of the Saints, they’re the one team that, from the perspective of us Packers fans, scares me a bit when I think about the playoffs.
54.
HeartlandLiberal
Sadly, right now my teams DO suck. If you live in Indiana, these are hard, hard times.
I was at the Indiana University game yesterday. The only consolation was that Indiana ran up a lot of touch downs. The problem was, Northwestern ran up about twice as many by the middle of the third quarter. With 8:30 left on the clock in the fourth quarter, with IU trailing by (ONLY) three full touchdowns, I finished my smoothy and we hit the trail to the parking lot.
And the Colts? What can I say. I think this years situation speaks for itself. Peyton Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, but if there were ever a lesson in how one is NOT supposed to put all of one’s eggs in one basket, this is it.
55.
different-church-lady
@schrodinger’s cat: I think it may have been on this very site that I learned that any earworm can be defeated by singing the three note audio logo for Mennen.
@HeartlandLiberal: Supposedly Manning has begged the Colts not to draft Andrew Luck, but after last night’s game with USC. I can’t see why the Colts will bypass him. Peyton we hardly know ye. Oh BTW the ending of the Ohio State-Wisconsin game was sweet. Braxton Miller makes you forget that…that…guy who plays for the Raiders.
As a fan of debate drinking games (leading to the great tequila disaster of ’08), I want the next GOP debate include a drinking contest between candidates. I bet it comes down to Herman Cain and Marcus Bachmann, who step in as dh for Michele. Herman is the only candidate to advocate for weaker drunk driving laws and Marcus … probably has a few demons to hide.
Huge chunks of the decade are missing from my memory- unfortunately they aren’t huge enough. The hardcore punk/alternative music was good, though. Minor Threat, Black Flag, The Minutemen, Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, The Replacements, Husker Du, Naked Raygun, Big Boys, Pixies…But, ya know, it never got played on any radio you could hear away from a large college campus.
Mom and friends’ power is out in northern NJ. They have no cell phone service either (no one believed the weather service so no one bothered to charge their cells!) and no one has a plug in phone so we’re communicating via one guy down the street who has a working phone.
Listen up, folks. Keep your cell phone charged. Have at least one plug in real phone, keep your car full of gas, and have some bottled water and some food that doesn’t need to be cooked for at least a day or two in case the power goes out. How hard is that?
Steven Jackson 32-yard run to the New Orleans 3. This game is over, folks. Time to get ready for the parade at 4:00. Amazing what a difference it makes having Jackson back. What was the spread the other way, 13.5 points, almost as big as you can have a spread?

Fuck! I just back-paged after writing up this multi-paragraph thing explaining low-powered college stations that use campus electrical lines as their broadcast antennas (MSU has two of these, one on either side of campus) that you can’t hear just blocks from campus. Suffice to say, if you were near a college of any size that allowed you to hear the student station broadcast at a radius of further than two miles from the broadcast tower, you were very lucky.
They used to have one of those arrangements at my undergrad school. A couple of years before I got involved in radio, there was a windstorm that knocked one of the lines that carried the broadcast signal around campus onto a chain-link fence around six tennis courts. The story goes that the station was picked up in Missouri (from upstate New York).
The administration strongly encouraged the radio station to switch to FM, and put up most of the money for the transmitter.
I had a 7am show on Saturday mornings on WBRS at MSU, and I harbored no illusions that anyone was listening. No one would have been listening in Missouri or California, for that matter, had something similar happened to our power lines.
I used to play the Velvet Underground’s Sister Ray, go outside and smoke a clove cigarette.
And Tebow tosses a weak out that goes for a 100-yard pick six by Chris Houston. 45-7, Lions.

The 80’s were a rock era wasteland. Oh, you had a few acts that did OK. Tom Petty held on, The Police did OK. the Pretenders did a couple good albums. Really it wasn’t till the end of the 80’s when grunge came on that rock picked back up again.
Otherwise, nothing but Flock of Seagulls bullshit….overproduced, introspective and house/trance crap.
Thank god Jerry Garcia was still alive. The Dead made the 80’s tolerable.
