The Steelers break the Brady and the Phil Simms curse!
Weird ending, too. Actually a stupid play by Polamalu (apart from not being allowed), because it didn’t matter who recovered, the Patriot receivers would never have been able to get back down the field and reset and time would have run out.
Now to watch the post game interview to see if Brady cries or trashes his teammates.
darkmatter
Detroit comes back from last weeks fluke of a loss to crush the Broncos. Wonder what will be said of Tebow today. Maybe he and Brady can share a good cry together.
different-church-lady
You know, it was going to be a really good day to be Cole until you came up with that one. Brady never trashes his teammates.
Litlebritdifrnt2
*snork* I just posted downthread that you would be tweeting and posting up a storm.
PurpleGirl
Can I assume you’re happy, JC?
That would be good.
General Stuck
Meh
Browns lost. The college basketball season begins next week, and all this football nonsense will seem like a bad dream. Kentucky is rated #2, and kept their young guns from last year, from turning pro.
Geeno
I thank the Steelers for helping to put the Bills back on top the AFC East
Maxwel
“Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch celebrated his sack of Tebow by joining the “Tebowing” craze, striking a prayerful pose near the prone second-year quarterback in the first half.”
Wish I had seen that.
MikeBoyScout
Clearly the Steelers punting game didn’t show us much today.
John Cole
@Maxwel: Don’t worry. TBOGG will have it converted into an animated .gif by the end of the night.
J.W. Hamner
Hard to believe the AFC North has three teams with only two losses. Something’s gotta give and I fear it will be my beloved Ravens next week against the Steelers.

Rotating tagline alert! “negative journalistic value added“
Old Dan and Little Ann
IF only the Cardinals had held on to beat the ravens. Rats!
James
OT: here’s a lovely little factcheck of the GOP including the lying sack of shit John McCain, who admits he’s a lying sack of shit, and the also lying sacks Mitch McConnell and Tom Coburn. In no uncertain terms. Good on AP for a change.
FACT CHECK: GOP lawmakers spin funding tall tales.
Yutsano
@John Cole: I just peeked. Right now it’s just mockery. But I have a feeling the inspiration will hit soon. I didn’t have the strength for the Chunky Bobo thread. It is my birthday after all. :)
James
And a late happy happy birfday, Yutsano.
different-church-lady
Interesting factoid: nine of the last 10 superbowls have featured the Patriots, Steelers, or Colts for the AFC.
And 10 different teams for the NFC.
Citizen_X
@Yutsano: Trolling for compliments, eh?
Well, it worked. Happy Birthday!
PS: Fucking Steelers.
Svensker
Yeah but why the hell did Ben drop back to pass on 2nd and 8 with a minute left to play. Whose genius idea was that?
Still happy to see the Pats lose.
Arm The Homeless
I wasn’t able to watch the Dolphin game today. Would someone like to give me a five-word synopsis of the action?
On a happier note … ZOMBIES!
Where the hell is Merle? Where are the father and son? Why is the blonde lady so damn whiny? Is it wrong to hope that the little kids don’t make it out?
Mudge
I’m not sure Polamalu’s play was illegal. The Steelers never had possession of the ball. The rule was instituted to prevent teams from fumbling on purpose, advancing the ball, then scoring. Could be wrong, of course.
Mark S.
@different-church-lady:
And that other team that won the AFC is hardly one you’d expect.
TBogg
@John Cole: As it is written, so it shall be done.
Mark S.
@John Cole:
You called that.
I have to admit, Tulloch was pretty subtle and it wasn’t taunting at all. Of course, he’ll get a six game suspension from Goodell.
zubalove
…and the Buffalo Bills move into 1st place in the AFC East!!!!
J.W. Hamner
@TBogg:
So how fast do you think somebody would get banned if they used that as their avatar in an Evangelical forum? Is it possible to measure these things in nanoseconds? Might need to synch with the atomic clocks.
Mark S.
John Cole: always gracious in victory.
JPL
@Yutsano: Happy Birthday!
piratedan
@Mark S.: guess he won’t be happy unless Tom Terrific doesn’t exemplify a certain level of humanity. He should be happy that his team and his franchise are a continuing example of a quality organization, after all, he could be a Redskins fan.
khead
‘Plaudin. Clap, clap, clap.
Waitin for zombies here too.

OT: finally a political campaign that speaks to me on an entirely different level

@piratedan:
DC sports radio after a Skins loss is so full of awesome.
Almost as good as the Ravens fans calling into the Baltimore station during halftime of their game today. I hope some of those folks didn’t actually hang themselves before the Ravens came back.
Cacti
The not so good version of the Cardinals (aka the Arizona team)had a 24-6 halftime lead over Baltimore…
They scored 3 points the rest of the way and lost 30-27.
piratedan
@khead: I am thankful I don’t live there since I am a ‘Skins fan, but the franchise has suffered severely since the death of JKC and there’s lots of folks that live and breathe their fandom thru that team that have suffered, especially since the football anti-christ bought the Cowboys and has enjoyed success despite himself. Not saying that there aren’t a few asshats numbered amongst the ‘Skins faithful but then again they aren’t Eagles fans either.
Cacti
Will Big Ben be heading to the club for a victory rape?
DonBoy
Yeah, it would have been nice if the announcer who was certain that TP’s move was illegal has explained why.
khead
@piratedan:
Sorry to revel in your misery then. Ok, well, not yours really – just everyone else’s around here. The phones will be ON FIRE tomorrow calling in to ESPN 980. Every show will be a fantastic bitchfest. Those always make for fun listening.
Which brings me to the Ravens…. at halftime I had to run an errand so I tuned into the local “Ravens live” show in B’more. Folks wanted Flacco and Cam Cameron taken out and shot at halftime.
Also, my wife is from Philly and you are right about their fans. Watch what happens if they lose tonight.
Cacti
@Maxwel:
Looks like the Christians came out on the short end vs. the Lions again.
Joel
Dude’s not Kordell Stewart.
Also, Stephen Tulloch is my new favorite NFL player.
Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason
And the Ravens come back from 21 points behind to win! And the Patriots lose!! Not a bad day (except for that Steelers thing).
West of the Cascades
Thanks, Steelers, for putting the Bills in first place!
Upper West
Dear Steelers,
Thank you.
A Jets Fan.
TD
@Upper West: Seconded. Screw the Patriots.
Kathy
Go iggles! F#ck Cowboys!
Kathy +4 glasses of cheap chardonay.
Happy birthday Yutsano!
Kathy
As a former Detroiter, seeing the Tebow Crusader thrown to the Lions made my day.
cathyx
I wonder why I have the NFL Shop featuring Steeler jerseys as an ad on this website. Hmm….
Ron
I agree it was a strange thing for Polamalu to do but I suspect it was just an instinct to go for the ball. I just hope Woodley isn’t really hurt. He has been a beast recently.
darkmatter
@Kathy: Agreed. I would love to see The Ghost of Al Davis sack Tebow 13 times next week and make him cry right on national television.
J.W. Hamner
@khead:
I was travelling and saw the score at halftime and thought somebody needed to be fired. I like our Harbaugh, but was beginning to think we had the wrong one.
honus
I got no sympathy for the Skins or their fans. The team name is a disgrace, especially since they were the most racist franchise in football for much of their existence. George Preston Marshall once said “We’ll start signing Negroes when the Harlem Globetrotters start signing whites.”
He was from WV, BTW. Then again, so is Ben Schwartzwalder.
piratedan
@honus: yup the legacy is bad, Marshall was a dick and yet the Redskins name doesn’t appear to raise much ire amongst native americans, go figure

How about some comments on the Dow breaking 12000 Wrong Again Cole. Not surprised you find things like NFL and fantasy leagues much more important. At the very least it would be a convenient excuse to explain why you are so completely WRONG on everything political.
Yutsano
@Nevgu: Herp de herp. You got rid of Harper yet?
jake the snake
@J.W. Hamner:
Harbaughs is interesting people.
Don’t know much about John, but if he is like Jack or Jim, he has a flaming temper and a tendency toward sarcasm.
Jack coached my alma mater to the D 1-AA championship in 2002 and Jim was a part time assistant. The current coach
played and coached under Jack and worked for Jim at Stanford. We WKU fans mostly love us some Harbaughs.
Joel
Fortunately, I can be pretty confident that the Steelers, Jets, and Ravens will not be winning the Super Bowl this year. Unfortunately, I’m also confident that the Patriots won’t be winning either.
Preparing myself for another year of those horrible State Farm commercials.
Morzer
@Arm The Homeless:
Dolphins blow fourth quarter lead.
WHITNEY
Today was a BEAUTIFUL day for the Steelers and those of us who love them best.
PS F-u Tom Brady.
MikeJ
@WHITNEY:
Giselle Bundchen will take care of that.
MoeLarryAndJesus
Fixed. Brady has been the epitome of class throughout his career. It’s the Steelers QB who is a living, breathing piece of shit, even though his exploits thrill Commander Cole.
4jkb4ia
They’ll see who’s not very good this year now! I actually paid more attention to this game than the parade.
Happy birthday, Yutsano.
drazzil
Haha. Tom Brady. What a jerk. He wishes he had the moral character of suspected multiple-rapist, and proven scumbag Ben Roethlisberger.
Mr. Cole – I wager that you will not be able to find a single instance of Tom Brady “trashing” a teammate to the media in his entire career without resorting to McArdle-level dishonest presentation. Any link to a quote or video of “trashing” occurring and I will admit that the Steelers are the greatest organization in the history of professional athletics.
sidenote: I love the Pats (shocker) but their defense is an abomination at this point.
horatius
Hey, at least Brady doesn’t rape women in restrooms.
