Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

The revolution will be supervised.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

In my day, never was longer.

Ann Coulter on Cain: “Our Blacks Are Better Than Their Blacks” [updated w/ video]

Annie, are you okay?

Ann Coulter2Ann Coulter is leading the charge in defending Herman Cain from the librul sexual harassment allegations smear job, and hoo boy!  She’s really digging in.

Yesterday morning she popped over to Fox News to call the Cain Situation “another high-tech lynching.” (I thought Cain would be the one to make that comparison, but I guess it’s better when you get the nice white lady to do it for you.)

Then later in the day, she appeared on Sean Hannity to double down on her idiocy and whine that it’s hard out there for a black Republican because Democrats always pick on them — or something.

From Mediaite:

“They harangue blacks and tell them ‘you can’t be a Republican, you can’t be a Republican,’ it is so hard for a black to be a Republican,” and then complain when conservative events are mostly white-attended, Coulter argued. “Maybe you shouldn’t harangue them so much!” Coulter also told Hannity the source of why liberals “detest conservative blacks” is that “it is ironic in a cruel, vicious, horrible way… that civil rights laws were designed to protect blacks from Democrats,” and now there are “liberal wimen using laws to protest blacks in order to attack conservative blacks with these vicious, outrageous charges.”

Hannity then turned to the absurdity of the charges as he saw them, and alluded to something Coulter seems to call him that would count as harassment in some environments, outraged. “People are humorless!” he exclaimed. Coulter saw something more sinister: “they don’t care about real sexual harassment.” Coulter compared the Cain reaction to that prompted by allegations against Bill Clinton, who got a defense from Gloria Steinem that Coulter described as “the boss gets one free grope.”

With that as a framework, Coulter once again praised the conservative black people she had known, arguing that “our blacks are so much better than their blacks” because “you have fought against probably your family, probably your neighbors… that’s why we have very impressive blacks.” She went on to compare conservative black Americans to the family of the President, arguing that “Obama… is not a descendant of the blacks that suffered these Jim Crow laws,” that he was “not the son of American blacks that went through the American experience,” but the “son of a Kenyan” (a point she made with the caveat that she fully believed the President was an American citizen).

Whatever you say, Annie. You’re totally right! Of course the reason there aren’t more black Republicans is because Democrats harangue them so much and make it so difficult to emerge from the closet post-racial and ready to pander.

It couldn’t possibly be that Republican policies have failed this country, and the black community specifically. It couldn’t be that Republicans are the party of Jim Crow and segregation (despite Republicans’ best efforts to ignore history and make such historically myopic claims as “Lincoln was a Republican!  MLK was a Republican!”, as if these Republicans are the same as those Republicans.  Southern strategy, anyone?!).

It couldn’t be that the Tea Party is the party of this guy, Warren Grady, — who referred to black politicians as “niggra race pimps.”

It couldn’t be that the Tea Party is the party of Jesse Lee Owens, the black Tea Party guru and King Panderer who thinks that most blacks lack moral character, and who, at the “South Central” Tea Party rally I attended, had children holding signs accusing the NAACP of being racist, immoral, and unAmerican.

It couldn’t be that we’re not stupid enough to believe that Republicans have been on the forefront of the civil rights movement, anti-racism, and other racial equality efforts.

Oh no.  It’s because Democrats “harangue” black people into being Democrats.  You’re a real out-of-the-box thinker, aren’t you, Annie?

Look, I generally ignore Ann Coulter. She’s a sensationalist who will say anything to sell books.  She’s not worth the energy it would take to summon contempt for her.  I’m only writing about her now because her silly comments bolster a point that I have made before, and that is: Republicans see black people as tokens.  The Democrats have “their blacks.”  So Republicans needed to go out and find “better blacks.”  “More impressive” blacks.  Blacks who are willing to pander and make white Republicans feel good about themselves.

Herman Cain is nothing more than a token to the Teapublicans. He is their “See we’re not racist” shield to ward off what they (and only they) see as unfair accusations of racism. Ann Coulter’s latest verbal diarrhea proves the point.

So thank you, Ann.

Oh, and tell Jimmie Walker I said DYNO-MITE!

Should we start listening to Mark Levin just to get our outrage/blood pressure up?

All you need to know about Anne Coulter is the following:
    1)She’s crazy
2)She is a master of self-deception and projection

Republicans see black people as tokens. The Democrats have “their blacks.” So Republicans needed to go out and find “better blacks.” ”More impressive” blacks. Blacks who are willing to pander and make white Republicans feel good about themselves.

They have much the same attitudes about women and, to some degree, everyone else. “Joe the Plumber” is neither a Joe nor a plumber. Herman Cain sings a pop song by a white evangelical, not a historic spiritual hymn. Sarah Palin is a no-talent grifter, not a caribou hunter.

I think this whole “liberal media is attacking Cain with this sexual harassment” meme is absurd on its face. Why would Dems or liberals be trying to kneecap Cain right now, when many liberals feel that Obama would have an easier time beating Cain, then say, Romney? Why would they try to kneecap Cains candidacy now and let it be easier for Romney to win, who would be a much tougher opponent? It makes no sense, and hence, why it was probably a republican leak.

But I know that conservatives must stick to the narrative no matter the reality, so the media will forever and always be “liberal”.

Since I refuse to talk to this asshole I never got the chance to ask him what was so attractive about Anne the Harridan, but it was really something else.

And hah, about “Annie are you alright — straight from basic life support training and the old resusi-Annie doll. Yuck.

I have nothing to add beyond this video to make the “Smooth Criminal” earworm even more awesome. 2Cellos, AKA two hawt Eastern European guys doing a cover version on graphite cellos. It’s flown around the ‘tubes for a long time, but someone may not have seen it yet.

Implicit in Coulter’s thinking is that black people have to be told whose opinions they should have. As if being a Democrat was just one long chain of peer pressure, not a rational decision based on N decades of evidence.

Also, in terms of “our blacks”, I’m actually hard-pressed to think of any African-American in the GOP is not a joke or a nobody. JC Watts was quite smart. But at some point during the Bush administration, he decided to fade away from politics and focus on business. Gee, why is that? Condi Rice was brilliant, but to what end? She allied herself with a moron, and did all of his bidding.

I think that being black and Republican is just going to make you a little bit crazy, just like being gay and Republican.

Ole tubbo can’t let the harpie have all the fun.

“What’s next, folks? A cartoon on MSNBC showing Herman Cain with huge lips eating a watermelon? What are they gonna do next? No, Snerdley, I’m not kidding. The racial stereotypes that these people are using to go after Herman Cain, what is the one thing that it tells us? It tells us who the real racists are, yeah, but it tells us that Herman Cain is somebody. Something’s going on out there. Herman Cain obviously is making some people nervous for this kind of thing to happen.”

I probably should have said her quest for notoriety, which translates into dollars in the RW Grift-o-sphere.

Additional grist from the Coulter mill: from Huff Post post (sorry can’t link, but go look for ‘Our blacks are better than their blacks’ (ewwww):

‘Coulter brought things back to race, saying that some women had been quick to forgive Bill Clinton for his sexual transgressions, but were attacking Herman Cain. “If you are a conservative black, they will believe the most horrible sexualized fantasies of these uptight white feminists,” she said.’

I’m sure there’s a psychological term for what this quote demonstrates, like ‘displacement’, or ‘role reversal’ or even ‘denial’ but I don’t know what it is (can someone please enlighten me?); I just know that Coulter citing ‘the most horrible sexualized fantasies of these uptight white feminists’ has an original home in the archives of the KKK, via the backroads of Faux ‘News’, with dollops of ‘Feminazi Update’.

There’s nothing psychologically wrong with Ann Coulter: she says hateful things, she is rewarded for it by her peers. Every single time. Without fail. It’s merely operant conditioning in action.

Why? Because the Very Serious People in our Very Serious Press are always Very Seriously Polite when hatemongers like Coulter and Malkin and Buchanan and Hannity open their traps. They must always be treated with Very Serious Respect, otherwise that’s a sign of not being a Very Serious Person. No matter what they say, scream, or fling, their every utterance must be treated with Very Serious Consideration.

It doesn’t help that those who actually do call out bullshit tend to be Very Unserious People, outright clowns who only engage in shouting matches so they can invite the same people on again to shout at them again. They’re only interested in the shouting, which itself is only a form of reinforcement to these aggressively nasty people like Coulter.
