Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

No one could have predicted…

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

An almost top 10,000 blog!

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

It’s a doggy dog world.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

You cannot shame the shameless.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself.

This really is a full service blog.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Run for your life, Herman:

Perry is a snake. Watch him. He is creepy. And his drunken, freak show speech this past weekend belonged in a Roger Corman film.

I questioned his very bad judgment when I exposed his entire Islamic curriculum, dawah and proselytizing, to Texas school children. But this? Perry is a really bad guy. Only a lowlife (or a Democrat — Perry was Al Gore’s campaign manager) would eliminate a better man with innuendo and gossip. Men like Perry do not win on merit.

I endorse Herman Cain. What he doesn’t know, we’ll teach him.

Conspiracy theory of the day: It was RAHM!:

The Washington Times floated a bizarre theory on Wednesday night, citing only a source “who is friends with the Cain campaign.” This highly reliable individual told the paper that former WH Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel forced a NRA employee based out of the Chicago office to leak the Cain sexual harassment story to the Perry campaign.

    Three cheers for Chicago Thugs!

I have this feeling man, ’cause you know, it’s just a handful of people who run everything, you know … that’s true, it’s provable. It’s not … I’m not a fucking conspiracy nut, it’s provable. A handful, a very small elite, run and own these corporations, which include the mainstream media. I have this feeling that whoever is elected president, like Clinton was, no matter what you promise on the campaign trail – blah, blah, blah – when you win, you go into this smoke-filled room with the twelve industrialist capitalist scum-fucks who got you in there. And you’re in this smoky room, and this little film screen comes down … and a big guy with a cigar goes, “Roll the film.” And it’s a shot of the Kennedy assassination from an angle you’ve never seen before … that looks suspiciously like it’s from the grassy knoll. And then the screen goes up and the lights come up, and they go to the new president, “Any questions?” “Er, just what my agenda is.” “First we bomb Baghdad.” “You got it …”

During this Halloween week in which the GOP and its media enablers have evidently decided to portray cannibals, one should not ignore this contribution from the Bowtie of Sanctimony, George Will, for his recent column, “Mitt Romney, the pretzel candidate.”

Romney, supposedly the Republican most electable next November, is a recidivist reviser of his principles who is not only becoming less electable; he might damage GOP chances of capturing the Senate. Republican successes down the ticket will depend on the energies of the Tea Party and other conservatives, who will be deflated by a nominee whose blurry profile in caution communicates only calculated trimming.

He plaintively entreats, “Has conservatism come so far, surmounting so many obstacles, to settle, at a moment of economic crisis, for this?”

Yet in the column’s final paragraph, Will delivers the fatal blow: “Republicans may have found their Michael Dukakis.” (!)

While perhaps too effete for the sensibilities of the Tea Party faithful, Will is among the most exalted of the Village Media Ministerium. Such character assassinations would seem to puncture the assumption of inevitability that the Mormon former Governor of Massachusetts will be the 2012 GOP presidential candidate.
