Commenter h proposes Puffy’s Tavern or Walker’s restaurant in Tribeca for next Sunday’s Balloon Juice Ideas Festival. About half a dozen of you expressed interest in dropping by. Any votes on which of the two places people would like to go? They both sound good and are both near OWS. I am thinking of 4 pm on Sunday.
(I know it’s called Varick Street, not Seventh Avenue, down there.)

I’d try to stop by.
Also, it’d be cool to meet Corey. He’s gonna be my guest on December 1st at Virtually Speaking.

@jayackroyd:
Cool. If I’m sure we have at least a few people coming by, I’ll see if Corey Robins wants to come by too.
Brachiator
I’m shattered that I won’t be able to attend. Hope everybody has a good time. Sounds like fun.

Walkers is my favorite bar in New York.
Jill
Half a dozen plus one.
@jayackroyd:
Hi Jay. Be really nice to see you.
BGinCHI
I would really like to go if only to get back to Walkers. That place is great and if you all don’t go there you are missing out.
OK, I’m checking flights just in case there’s something super cheap.
Cole is paying the bar tab, right?
cathyx
I think it should be Puffy’s Tavern just because I like the name.

Seeking only workman’s wages I go looking for a job but I get no offers…
David in NY
4 p.m., eh? Maybe I’ll be back in town.
Also, in the comments to the post in which this event was first proposed, there is a reference to the “origin” of the phrase, “Also, too.” Of which I was not aware (apparently not being aware of quite all internet traditions). Where did it come from?
cathyx
@Villago Delenda Est: Did you get a come-on from the wh*res on 7th avenue?
David in NY
@Villago Delenda Est: “whores on Seventh Avenue”
Shows you how ancient that song is, BTW. Whores got driven West and elsewhere long since.
Villago Delenda Est
I set up the teeballs, the BJ crowd crushes them into the upper deck.

Ideas Festival? Not Snarkrage Festival or Annual Abuse and Alcohol Outing?
cathyx
@Villago Delenda Est: Are you hearing what you want to hear and disregarding the rest?

Puffy’s is on the corner of Hudson and Harrison if memory serves.

Sadly, I’m out of town all weekend.

Well shit, I’ll be getting drunk with my roommates and friends in a cabin over at Lake Wallenpaupak, PA or else I would love to attend.
At least now I have another bar to add to my list of spots to visit, Walkers seems like my kind of digs. Hope everyone has a good time and sorry I can’t go.
PurpleGirl
I looked at the menus for both places. I’d prefer Walker’s.

@Villago Delenda Est:
[[hug]] My sympathy.

One more chair please, for what’s shaping up to be a rather large table. I’m looking forward to putting faces to words.
Puffy’s and Walker’s are both superb, proud redoubts in a city becoming ever more homogenized or expense-accounted. I should advise that Puffy’s stops serving food, other than fried snacks, after 5:00pm on weekends. So if people wish to have dinner and to argue properly with their mouths full, Walker’s may be the better choice.
eemom
dayum. I’d so like to meet the famous DougJ and the rest of you cool NY folks.
How come nobody ever comes to DC? : (

Is Tunch coming?

Define ‘next Sunday’. I’m here on the 13th (and always open to the idea of liver abuse), but out of town on the 20th.
JGabriel
I vote for Walker’s.
Are we talking the 13th or the 20th?

I’ll be in LA this weekend, at some weird anime thing at the LAX Hilton with some friends, if anyone wants to drop by. The meet-up at Netroots Nation in Minneapolis was great.
Tom Levenson
Damn. I’m somewhere in CT as I write this, heading for a quick stop in NYC tonight. (Talking Newton at the MIT club, if any BJers are thus old-school-tie-ish).
Puffy’s was my default bar in 1982-4; never thought it would have survived this long. My apex as a darts player (a very local maximum) came there, though there was a reproducible curve of fail as the beer/hour process took its toll.
Sorry to miss everyone. I’ll go be nostalgic all on my own now.

The gibberish of Sarah Palin.
Edited To Add: The Palin-Couric interview is where I remember Palin first using it, though she used it on other occasions too.

Doug, I assume the gathering will stream live for those who can’t make it.
Bill E Pilgrim
Can’t go because of the thousands of miles thing but Walkers couldn’t be more perfect, used to live close enough to walk there and did often. Great place.
David in NY
@JGabriel: I knew that!!
Thanks.
ETA: Also, too. You clarified for me what “ETA” means. (To repeat, I am not aware of all internet traditions).
ChrisNYC
Ah! Puffy’s is a great place. Better when smoking was allowed.
DougJ
@JGabriel:
The 13th!
errg
Hey, I live in Tribeca! I’ll make it if I can, would be great to meet some of the illustrious BJers…
JCT
Regrets from me — will be in Orlando (the horror) for the heart meetings next weekend. I love Walkers. Damn.
jayackroyd
@DougJ:
Sorry–I took from the linked post that he’d be there. Still would like to make it, of course. I’ll know by tomorrow.
jayackroyd
@ChrisNYC:
And one of my favorite no longer there restaurants on Varick was Nosmo King.
jayackroyd
@Jill:
Jill? Jill H from the UWS? I owe you a coffee date. I will email!

Checking back on this thread, it suddenly dawned on me that its title is not taken from Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer” but from Jagger & Richards’ “Shattered.”
(I’m not entirely ignorant of the Rolling Stones oeuvre, DougJ.)
Jill
@jayackroyd:
Yes, Jay and yes you do!
Nicole
I’ll be there. Haven’t been to Walker’s in ages. I may have the 16-month-old in tow, but I promise he’s never a mean drunk.
Diana
4pm on Sunday I will be there, and even if we are not at Puffy’s Tavern I will still show off iphone pictures of my cat Puffy … so be warned.
looking forward to it!
Steeplejack
@Nicole:
Well, he’s young yet. Give him time.
Will
I’ll be there, whichever gets picked, Walkers or Puffy’s…
DougJ
@Will: @Diana: @Nicole:
Great! Looking forward to meeting all of you.
Suffern ACE
Hmmm. O.K. I usually head back to the foothills about 4 on Sunday, and the neighborhood is a bit swank for us BTT, but I’ll drop in.
