From commentor Opium4themasses:
I have a friend in the Houston area who has recently been very lucky to survive a cerebral aneurysm. She had a Subarachnoid hemorrhage and is lucky to be alive. Fast actions of her friends to get her to the hospital saved her life. She is healing now but is reassessing her situation. She became unemployed a few months prior to the episode and thus has a very hefty medical bill due to not having medical coverage.
Her beautiful and lovely cats need a new home as her new living situation does not have room for them. They are 7 months old now. She had originally rescued a litter of 5 and was able to re-home 2 of them.
There are 3 female kittens left. The cost of a spay will be covered, plus the vet is offering a $10 Petco giftcard. So people get a freshly spayed 7-month-old kitty and $10.

And another plea from fellow bloggers at Rumproast:
We have a sad and urgent message about our dear friend and Rumproast blogger StrangeAppar8us: for the past ten days, he has been hospitalized and fighting for his life. He is stabilized now to some degree, but is on a long, difficult road about which nothing is certain but that it will include disability…
We will be doing everything we can for Strange, including setting up fundraisers and putting together his work, but for now we have an immediate need for homes for his three cats, most likely permanent homes, though I hope with all my heart someday he may be reunited with at least one. They are all seven years old, spayed and neutered, and I am hoping he may get one back someday, but we have no idea if that will ever happen.
The cats are still in his house, being fed by the neighbors and Mrs. Polly. There are two large, sweet males, Zero and Bill, and Zip, a dainty little female. They are Strange’s babies; he helped their mother give birth to them. We are going to be enlisting help in putting them in carriers, and then they need to go to new homes immediately. By the end of this week, preferably.
Please help us rescue Strange’s kitties. Anyone living in the Pennsylvania area would be ideal, but if it’s necessary to transport them by air, we will do that…
If you are able to take one or more of the cats please contact us at [email protected] and we will talk more then.
Any suggestions about local rescue groups or other possible assistance, please leave a comment. If you prefer, you can email me at [email protected], or click on my name near the top of the right-hand column.
I think I saw Tunch’s MiniMe for a second there.
The state is 300 miles long. Can we get it narrowed down a little more?
Strange lives in Pittsburgh.
Oh man, that is just terrible news. Haven’t been by Rumproast lately, or any blog all that much. But Strange is my favorite roaster, who takes it on his own to fix my multiple typing fubars over there.
Please pull through dude, lots of folks care.
Passing on this info to my University of Houston friends, my partner also volunteered with a cat rescue there. I hope we can find a home for those kitties.
Thanks much for posting this. She really appreciates the help.
@evinfuilt That would be awesome.
Those in the area might want to canvass the senior centers and assisted living (some allow one pet.)
A “fixed” cat who is NOT a drape-climbing kitten could be just the ticket for someone lonely on a fixed income.
On behalf of the Rumproast crew, I’d like to thank you so much for posting this.
If I could take the Pittsburgh cats, I would, but two dogs and one of them battling old age and leukemia is all we can handle right now. Animal Friends is a good shelter, I believe. Pretty sure it’s no kill. Too hard to link on the iPhone, but they should be easy to look up if the worst comes to worst.
seems there’s been a shooting at Haas business school, Berkeley.
must . . . not . . . look at adorable kittehs . . . must . . . not!
Someone on Rumproast offered to help but lives on the west coast.
Is there a way that we can have a fund raiser to pay for the kitties airplane tickets??
good luck though, i wish i could help! :(
You’re in my thoughts and prayers, Strange; may you keep fighting and pull through.
If a last resort is necessary, I can take a cat or three. I have a cat that does not like others, but an extra room could buy time. Am willing to drive to PA from NY to pick up cats. Hopefully this isn’t necessary but just wanted to put it out there.
Strange is a brilliantly funny writer. This is very sad news. I wish we could take the cats, but we can’t. I’ll check in with that community to see what else can be done.

I’m on the other side of the political river, but I will link in. This goes well beyond political differences.
