It’s one of those nights. I have all the faculty members from the college in the town I live here at the house, and it’s worse than your usual frat party.
I’m going to start cooking to hopefully sober some of these people up.

I love this song. It is my official “get psyched to watch the Ravens beat the Steelers” theme song.
Comrade Mary
Here, have some CAKE.

Omnes Omnibus
@bin Lurkin’: Bit of a mish-mash of the Declaration of Independence, Gettysburg Address, and other historical documents. If one wants to have an impact, like the source docs did, it is best to be original.
Comrade Mary
Holy shit, John McCrea is only 4 years younger than me.

I love Gogol Bordello! John Cole, you have impeccable taste!
“Start Wearing Purple” was played in the end credits for the movie “Everything Is Illuminated.”
I’m partial to “Wonderlust King myself.
Hell, “Super Taranta!” is a great album.
Comrade Luke
Police officer pepper-sprays seated, non-violent students at UC Davis.
The kids are just sitting there, and the cop makes a grand, sweeping gesture as he takes out the canister.
It’s going to get worse.

@Comrade Mary: I can’t believe you are older than me.

@Omnes Omnibus:I see it as being the original documents updated for modern times. There’s a lot more..

I have to go to Ikea tomorrow. It’s like Gogol Bordello as a spatial experience. So now I have this in my head.
Gilles de Rais
lululemon loves them some Ayn Rand.
Omnes Omnibus
@bin Lurkin’: They weren’t updated; the phrases were strung together with some modern language as filler. I am a fan of literary and historical allusions, but these were not well done.
bin Lurkin'
@Omnes Omnibus: With all due respect, and I mean that truly, the document speaks truths to me, it could be done better perhaps but your audience are not fans of historical and literary allusions for the most part.
Lots of real ‘Murkin buzzwords worked into something that actually makes a good deal of sense.

My cat Scout is quickly approaching Tunch dimensions. So charming.
Omnes Omnibus
@bin Lurkin’: I am not going to fight with you about it. I agree with the principles expressed, but if I can pick out most of the source documents while drunk and playing with 80s music on YouTube, the writing is not original. It doesn’t allude to or cite historical documents; instead, it plunders them. YMMV.
Steeplejack
@Omnes Omnibus:
Has a bit of a “founders’ doc sample, yo” vibe. Meh.
I’m going back downstairs to the music thread.
Omnes Omnibus
@Steeplejack: I am going to bed.
The prophet Nostradumbass
Love that Gogol Bordello song. Saw them on the Warped tour some years ago.

Let me know if there are any TT US history openings at that college. Sounds like a fun place to teach.

The whole faculty can party at one guy’s house? Either you live in a palace or that’s one small college.
Paul in KY
@Karen: They usually play at Bonnaroo. Did back in June. If they play next year, you should go.
