Anybody here watch Chris Hayes’ morning show? From Greg Sargent, at his WaPo Plum Line blog:
You should definitely check out Chris Hayes’ show on MSNBC [Saturday] morning — he has a scoop coming that will shed some new light on the meaning of the constant efforts to discredit Occupy Wall Street. Here’s the teaser:
‘Up’ will reveal details of a memo the program has obtained from a prominent lobbying firm pitching a Wall Street client on how to hit back at Occupy Wall Street and target specific Democrats in 2012 races around the country.
Don’t get MSNBC in our household, but I’m curious about this.

Ah, I’m out and about by 7 to hit the last day of the Farmer’s Market and the grocery store before the early football crowd gets to town. It looks like they only show it once which is interesting given the god-awful shit they shw on the weekends.

That annoying Change.org Target add is still there.

My wife DVRs it every weekend. Says it’s mostly good and actually brings on a group of guests that aren’t merely the same half dozen people that speak on every other show. Although apparently Hayes does need to work on his style and stop hogging time from his experts.

You should be able to see it at the show’s site sometime later in the day.

Who the fuck watches MSNBC on Saturday other than to check out prison shows?

Late to yesterday’s threads, but Level 42, 80’s Janet and SOS is a great way to start my day! Doug and John – you guys rawk!!!

I would watch if I were home, but I’m in Ottawa this week for academic conference, and no MSNBC in this Canadian hotel room.

@SiubhanDuinne: Too bad the Rough Riders are out of business!

It has replaced Weekend Edition from NPR; Scott Simon can get to be very cloying and annoying.

@Raven and the Senators are out of town this weekend

Hmm. So those who want to undermine OWS are also opposed to Democrats. I’m sure there is no lesson to be derived from this fact.

@SiubhanDuinne: You should be able to watch it online later today. I’m sure updates will be available on this site, though.

@Annie Laurie:
The fact that many network cable providers don’t include MSNBC (or include it only on a premium rather than basic tier), whereas Faux News and CNN are universally on the basic tier, is of itself an ideologically motivated strategy by the corporate class to limit exposure of the network they think is in the thrall of progressives/OWS/DFH types.

If anyone is watching now, please give us some updates.

Big surprise Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is mentioned in the memo as a politician to target. I love Sherrod. Donation coming his way today to support him. And he gets to be on Up tomorrow to respond. This may be my new favorite MSNBC show.

Thankyouverymuch for the tip- I’m gonna watch it.
Up is one of the best shows on TV, I’ve been DVRing since it started.

@JPL:
Thanks, I’ll do that in between sessions.

German manager at Alabama Mercedes Benz plant arrested for not having his papers under state’s new immigration law.
The irony that a German was told to show his papers … and arrested for not having them. There really are no words.

The memo bragged about the firm’s ties to Speaker Boehner (two of the founders were his Congressional aides, I think) and outlined basically “let us do the hit work for you!” because banksters fighting back would look bad.
And if the OWS protests should continue, “Republicans might stop defending Wall Street.”

@Southern Beale:
Republicans never consider the possibilities their own draconian laws could ever turn around and kick their asses. They are like single minded pre-schoolers, have no concept of unintended consequences.

Watching the Humphrey episode of C-SPAN’s “The Contenders” last night, the M.O. is clear here – the lobbying firm is pitching 1968 to their clients. However, some big difference in 1968 and today is that Barack Obama has no real opposition in the nomination. Johnson was punching Humphrey in the neck every chance he got. Humphrey started out of the convention with no cash and barely any support from the machine. None of that is true in Barack Obama’s case.
I’m quite sure GOP-Candidate-To-Be-Named-Later would love to see a 1968-style uproar at the Democratic convention, but like as not, the Occupy movements would be just as happy to swarm their convention as well.

Pet question to WereBear and other pet lovers here:
For the last couple of weeks, I have been thinking about how to minimize the assault our two 5 month old kitties are sure to launch upon our Christmas tree when it goes up. I did consider not having a tree this year but new kittens never stopped us before. Our many previous cats didn’t bother with attacking the tree after the first year. They just loved napping under and behind it. I know it will be a smaller tree trimmed with only non-breakable ornaments and I will keep them in another room while the tree is being set up so they can’t “help” me and fixate on this big new thing with toys. I know that bitter apple spray worked for people with puppies but does it work with kittens? Any other suggestions? We buy a real tree every year, don’t own an artificial tree.

@bemused: I hang bells so at least I can hear if the cat or dog is near the tree.

The piece was just posted on the UP with Chris Hayes website.

Santa isn’t the only one who knows when we are sleeping!
The kitties haven’t gotten into too much mischief in the house over night. For the most part they stay in bed with us sleeping preferring to bug us when they have had enough of napping instead of wandering around elsewhere getting into trouble. I don’t think they will forget about a Christmas tree though. We may have to put them to sleep in another room for the night until the tree is taken down.

Well, my goal of sleeping in this morning is unachievable. People are re-roofing my building and they needed me to move my car. Perhaps notifying residents ahead of time would have been cool. Oh well, the dudes banging on the roof would have woken me up anyway.

Has anyone gotten this bogus email “from” Bill Cosby?
The right wing never ceases to amaze me. In order for bullshit like this to circulate, you have to have zero interest in facts. None. It literally takes five seconds to figure out this email is a fake, yet the wingers circulating it lack either the inclination, or the mad haxxxor googling skillz it takes to figure that out.

Very grateful for your comment and your concise analysis. I was completely unaware of this practice (cable television providers not including MSNBC in their basic package) and will now investigate to learn more.
Also, I had thought Anne Laurie resided in the metropolitan Boston area and as such would have been served by a major cable provider, such as Time Warner or Cablevision. Which makes this matter all the more troubling.
Yet another chapter in my own volume of myopia, “Things taken for granted.”
Also too: thanks much Anne Laurie for altering me/us to this morning’s “Up” program. I’ll check its website later today.

We haven’t had an actual big Christmas tree for years now. Every cat we’ve had treats the tree like Simon’s Cat does.

Is there something to Super Premium coffee filters other than something to slap on the outside of a package?
I bought a pack of coffee filter and they seem thicker than the pack I ran out of. The pack says they are Super Premium.
The end result is a thicker filter leads to watered down weak coffee. I’m very upset this morning because my coffee’s so watered down. I feel shaken. I thought coffee filters were all pretty much made equal, especially when you buy the same brand of coffee filters.
Also, too I checked and checked, if I accidentally pulled two filters but I didn’t.

Don’t know about the rest of this post, but had to drop in to say that Mary Chapin Carpenter is one of the all time goddesses of music.
Her mid-90s album “Come On, Come On” is a classic. One damn good song after another, all the way thru. “Passionate Kisses” alone makes it worth the listen.

What a waste of fine coffee beans! Call the company and tell them how dissatisfied you are. If it’s a brand you regularly use, they will probably send you a coupon you can use on the non super premium type.

@cmorenc: @handsmile: This is an excellent point and I’m glad you made it. But, to reassure Handsmile… we don’t get cable, not at all, which is why we don’t get MSNBC. We pay for upper-level Netflix access as an alternative (and may end up paying for Hulu-plus, if/when that will give us quicker acess to some BBC series), so we actually do meet Martin’s oft-repeated “$40-$50 a month per household or the content providers won’t provide” — also for Fios, which makes streaming possible. The Verizon people keep explaining how cheap it would be to add cable as well, but since we’re not sports watchers and we don’t have kids, practically anything from a cable channel that we want to watch will come through the internet and/or be available on DVD if we’re patient.

All of MSNBC’s news shows are available here. I don’t have cable and was not aware that MSNBC was not available on all cable providers.
Myself, I watch Maddow every morning and a bit of O’Donnell if there’s time. I watch “Up” on Sundays. You couldn’t pay enough me to watch “Morning Jo(k)e” or “Way Too Smug”…
