Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Biden: Oh no. We’ve upset Big Pharma again.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

A consequence of cucumbers

“But what about the lurkers?”

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

Somebody needs to explain to DeSantis that nobody needs to do anything to make him look bad.

It’s a doggy dog world.

An unpunished coup is a training exercise.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Dead end MAGA boomers crying about Talyor Swift being a Dem is my kind of music. Turn it up.

Bogus polls are all they’ve got left. Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls a year from now.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

‘Museums aren’t America’s attic for its racist shit.’

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

Monday Night Open Thread

by John Cole|  November 21, 20119:15 pm| 60 Comments

This post is in: Dog Blogging, Open Threads

FacebookTweetEmail

Every morning when I wake up, Lily and I have our moment when I rub her belly and ask “Who’s the best doggy, who’s the best doggy, who’s the best doggy” until she gets all wound up. Here she is half way through the process rubbing her nose with her paws (saying “I AM! I AM!), before scampering all over the bed and then jumping off and getting the zooms:

And here she is, jumping up on my lap, getting all up in my grill to let me know she is tired of being ignored in favor of the moving pictures:

How can you resist that?

I swear to god that dog’s face melts hearts.

Perhaps you should let Zandar handle the open threads in the future as today proved he’s not even remotely qualified to discuss science.

LOL, charlie does the same thing with his paws, but after a wild tickle fest he loves so much. Dogs, what a sorry world it would be without them.

(First version that got eated was much cleverer and more tactful, but fuck it, if FYWP won’t cooperate, I don’t see why I should.)

We call the zooming “spedding,” but it’s much the same. Alas, our dogs are past that – one’s too old and the other is blind (his spedding is about 3 strides long before he starts to realize he might run into a tree).

Dogs are great. Nothing against cats, but dogs are great.

Part of me knows she’s adorable because of 150 centuries of human meddling to make her that way, and part of me wants to give her whatever makes her happy because she’s SOOOO CUUUUTE!!!

My six year-old son recently decided he wants a “little dog” as opposed to our big fat dog. When he saw a Lily post a couple of weeks ago he got all excited. Seems that Lily was what he had in mind when he says he wants a little dog. I am now trying to keep him away from all images of cute dogs because I am at my limit with animals right now.

    Lily puppeh for the win!

We start our day like this as well. First the younger beagle repeatedly hits one of us in the head with her iron paw until we wake up. And then she plays wrestlemania with her sister on the bed until the covers are on the floor and the day begins. Lots of fun unless you have a hangover.

There is nothing in this world like Dog Love.

That being said, just a short while ago the now 8-month-old Lord Stanley was having a difficult time pooping outside and I noticed something, you know, hanging out. Although the first instinct is to help a buddy out, maybe pull a little, you can do real damage and it’s best to just wait. Finally, he worked it out. Oh, so that’s where his new bandanna went.

Whew, we got lucky that time. And that, my friends, is also Dog Love. :-)

Well, it might buy you some time if you explain that little dogs are at a premium here in New England… the few that come up for adoption are snapped up quickly… that’s why the chihuahua rescue people have organized transcontinental flights to re-home discarded “Paris Hilton purse dogs” from LA to NYC.

Not quite yet. They haven’t done a proper Ron Paul yet. But he’ll have the lifespan of a mayfly, so Michele will be back soon.

@beltane: There is only 6 weeks until Iowa caucus. Given the down time around Xmas and New Years, I don’t think there’s enough time for Newt to flame out.

Baring a dead girl or live boy, Newt will win Iowa, come close in New Hampshire, win South Carolina and Florida, picking up Cain’s and Perry’s supporters, and securing the nomination by mid February.

In the name of fairness, Afro-Blue has gotten so much publicity from being on this show that there has to be a jazz label that will sign them–perhaps even Blue Note. They have shown the ability to transcend what everyone else is doing.

I don’t think it’s going to be her turn again just because of the quickness with which the people that should be for her left her. They seem to be looking for something else other than what she can do.

Six weeks is plenty of time to destroy Newt if people are paying attention. Newt can look like a cynical operator with just the stories that have already come out.

Oh, I will drink to that. I feel like Stanley and I just got a free pass from the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm Gods. I’ve heard nightmarish stories about dogs who swallow rope toys (never leave a pup or a dog alone with those) or nylons or even socks, but a bandanna is bad enough.

There is just nothing like the unconditional and uncomplicated love we give and get from our furry brethren.
