After three years of sitting the bench, Caleb Hanie gets a chance to play football against Oakland today. Up until now Martz hasn’t thought much of him, but now claims Hanie will be a starting quarterback somewhere in the NFL. Yeah, Mike. Today in Oakland.
1-1:30 will be the best time of the week to go grocery shopping. People will still have hope, and many people will postpone shopping to watch. By halftime many who were watching the game will have given up and gone to the store.

2 picks 5 fumbles with 12 to go in the 3d in Nashville!
Well my Spurs beat West Brom yesterday, Bolton’s up next week.
Currently on 28 points (3rd place) 2 points short of ManU, with one less game played.
As for the Bundesliga – nice to see Bayern Munich get pipped out of top spot with a loss to Mainz.

The Saints don’t play until tomorrow.
It’s overcast and in the low 50s where I am–a winter’s day in this part of the country, so right now I’ve got the Jets/Bills on mute and some beef short ribs braising with thyme, bay leaf red wine beef stock, etc.
It’s my first time using this recipe, fingers crossed. They’ll be cooked in time for the only game I’m really interested in seeing today: Chiefs/Stillers.
And the burning question: Can/will big Ben play w/ broken thumb and if so, how will it all turn out.
Seriously, if all of the allegations against the UNC football program are proven, they will be on probation for at least 1,000 years.
And despite the 3-9 record, Duke’s football program is moving in the right direction. We will be bowl-eligible next year.

@burnspbesq: The rumor is the unemployment rate for coaches in the Pac-12 is going way up.
Joe Alleva made two great hires in his last two years as Duke’s AD: David Cutcliffe and John Danowski.
Danowski has been awesome, with five consecutive final fours and the program’s first national championship in 2010, but he was handed a program loaded with talent, and the NCAA ruling that gave every player on the 2006 roster an extra year of eligibility was a huge factor in Duke’s success from 2007-10.
Cutcliffe faced a much greater challenge, and has performed brilliantly. He has a program that was unimaginably bad when he arrived on the verge of being a factor in the ACC.
Ron Zook fired after 7 years of ruining college careers of high-quality recruits at the U. of Illinois. Maybe now the Illini can compete in the Big-Howevermany more often than once every 7 years.

GOD DAMN NEW YORK JETS!!!! Now I have to listen to Mike Greenberg’s slobbering man-love of Buddy Ryan and Mark Sanchez tomorrow morning.
@Raven: Really? We’re talking about a guy who lost to Western Michigan, Indiana and Minnesota in the last three years despite having more talent than all three schools. If Juice Williams had received decent coaching during his career, I think he would have been a good college quarterback. Instead after a promising 2007 season he regressed in 2008 and 2009. With a competent coach and the same talent, I think they’d have had at least 1-2 games a year for the last couple of years.
If I were a Texans fan, I’d start asking if the stadium was built on an ancient burial ground or something. I feel bad for them at this point.

@burnspbesq: BC is hosting the Grey Cup this year. Offhand I’m curious how many times in 99 years a finalist has gotten to play at home.
It’s a bit surprising that the officials have had to step between the two teams on the field, during warmups. Hey, whaddya think this is guys, hockey?
Also, they’ve had to actually bring in a spare set of first-down ‘chains’ after the regular ones were discovered broken. Note: This is not a metric-v.-English joke.

Plus the fact that the Iggles can’t stop the Pats at all. Unless Vince could lead his team to a TD on every possession, he wasn’t going to win it for them. The ’tissue paper’ defense isn’t working. Maybe they should try a brown paper bag. For their heads. For my money, Reid has to be one of the worst coaches and personnel managers ever. Tons of great skill players, but no line to speak of.
