Mmm…little funny looking ball carried by big men in tight pants.
it’ll be a treat today, since i’m in the Pac NW to get to watch my ‘Skins lose on TV…… may dame fortune smile upon all of you and your teams of choice…
My teams played on Thursday, and the schedule looks kinda pointless today. Maybe I’ll enjoy the unbelievable weather instead of watching TV …
close games this week at least, last week was blowout city for so many games
@piratedan: Yesterday’s football was kinda blah..
Atlanta is doing okay so far but I for one would like to see a blowout.
My poor Vikes are running out of cornerbacks and it shows. Can they score before halftime? Not likely. Ponder has no time behind that revolving door line. Ugly.
Have at it? Not if you’re gonna snoop my IP numbers…
Villago Delenda Est
The Seahawks seriously suck.
There. I said it.
OT: it’s my birthday today. Alas, #40.
After three years of sitting the bench, Caleb Hanie gets a chance to play football against Oakland today. Up until now Martz hasn’t thought much of him, but now claims Hanie will be a starting quarterback somewhere in the NFL. Yeah, Mike. Today in Oakland.
@Villago Delenda Est:
Just out of curiosity, are you coming to this conclusion only now? :)
Happy B-day! I think this still makes you a youngster. I’m amazed at how this blog skews older than its founder.
@Villago Delenda Est: It often rains in Seattle in the winter.
There. I said it.
1-1:30 will be the best time of the week to go grocery shopping. People will still have hope, and many people will postpone shopping to watch. By halftime many who were watching the game will have given up and gone to the store.
@FlipYrWhig: Happy Birthday! If you have a favorite football team, I’ll cheer for them as long as it’s not…them or them or them..
I don’t have magical powers so don’t expect a win though.
Also rooting for the Rams so the Vikings can get the number two pick next spring and draft Kalil from USC.
@JPL: Tha Iggles thank you for your support.
The dawgs and the Hokies roll! Blah, I don ‘t think so. Ranin and blowin like mad at the beach, like oh well!
The Thin Black Duke
As a heartbroken Philadelphia Eagles fan, I’m not looking forward to the game with the hateful New England Patriots later this afternoon; there’s no hope, no point, no mas.
And because I officially don’t give a damn anymore, I’m rooting for Green Bay to go all the way. Why?
So Brett Favre will Shut. The. Fuck. Up.
2 picks 5 fumbles with 12 to go in the 3d in Nashville!
Happy Birthday whig.
40? Alas? I’ve got 15 years on you and I still don’t feel over-the-hill. Sonny. :D
Dream on. Barkley, Kalil, and McDonald are all coming back, and the Spoiled Children will rid the universe of the despicable stain that is the SEC.
The media jackals are already picking at Neuheisel, and he’s not officially a corpse yet.
Twas a good Saturday to be one of the Spoiled Children, in all respects.
Trojans Restrain Cocks
Well my Spurs beat West Brom yesterday, Bolton’s up next week.
Currently on 28 points (3rd place) 2 points short of ManU, with one less game played.
As for the Bundesliga – nice to see Bayern Munich get pipped out of top spot with a loss to Mainz.
The Saints don’t play until tomorrow.
It’s overcast and in the low 50s where I am–a winter’s day in this part of the country, so right now I’ve got the Jets/Bills on mute and some beef short ribs braising with thyme, bay leaf red wine beef stock, etc.
It’s my first time using this recipe, fingers crossed. They’ll be cooked in time for the only game I’m really interested in seeing today: Chiefs/Stillers.
And the burning question: Can/will big Ben play w/ broken thumb and if so, how will it all turn out.
@burnspbesq: And the Heels?
At least there’s one meaningful football game today.
I’m rooting for Winnipeg, because BC’s unis remind me of Tennessee.
Lost to UNLV. ;-)
Seriously, if all of the allegations against the UNC football program are proven, they will be on probation for at least 1,000 years.
And despite the 3-9 record, Duke’s football program is moving in the right direction. We will be bowl-eligible next year.
And in football news north of the border, the 99th Canadian Football championship (the Grey Cup) takes place between the BC Lions and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Funny that the 2 biggest trophies Canadians have teams playing for (Stanley Cup & Grey Cup) both have a large capacity for drinking out of.
TD Vikings! Beautiful pass to Harvin on 4th and long. 3 point game now with a lot of time left.
@burnspbesq: The rumor is the unemployment rate for coaches in the Pac-12 is going way up.
@burnspbesq: I’m going for the Bombers too – they’re 21 years since their last win.
They did play BC in 1988 for the championship and won it then.
I benched Steve Johnson this week and he goes all jailbreak on Revis Island. Looking like a loss for my guys this week.
@burnspbesq: Da Berz!
Joe Alleva made two great hires in his last two years as Duke’s AD: David Cutcliffe and John Danowski.
Danowski has been awesome, with five consecutive final fours and the program’s first national championship in 2010, but he was handed a program loaded with talent, and the NCAA ruling that gave every player on the 2006 roster an extra year of eligibility was a huge factor in Duke’s success from 2007-10.
Cutcliffe faced a much greater challenge, and has performed brilliantly. He has a program that was unimaginably bad when he arrived on the verge of being a factor in the ACC.
Check out these pups we ran into yesterday/
Best football news of the day:
Ron Zook fired after 7 years of ruining college careers of high-quality recruits at the U. of Illinois. Maybe now the Illini can compete in the Big-Howevermany more often than once every 7 years.
BD of MN
Argh… Vikes ran a kickoff back 102 yards WITHOUT SCORING, then four running plays and turned the ball over on downs…
they’ve figured out yet another original way to suck…
@HL Guy: Like who? Juice, Benn? I’ve been an Illini all my life and he had to go but I’m not sure who it is you think he ruined.
Gary Speed’s suicide is hitting this NUFC supporter of partial Welsh descent and problematic brain chemistry especially hard today. Just out of nowhere, for no obvious reason. Horrible.
Mr Stagger Lee
GOD DAMN NEW YORK JETS!!!! Now I have to listen to Mike Greenberg’s slobbering man-love of Buddy Ryan and Mark Sanchez tomorrow morning.
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
The Packers are 11-0.
That is all.
@Mr Stagger Lee:
Or you could listen to “Morning Edition” on NPR.
From the Guardian:
“There were widespread but unconfirmed reports that he had killed himself.”
I think I’ll wait for the results of the coroner’s inquest.
Still, a damned shame. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. A “Gary Speed Stand” at St. James’ Park would be completely appropriate in my view.
I think Vince Young should just throw 50-yard bombs for the rest of the game.
edit: Or not.
double edit: Dan Dierdorf is so goddamn annoying. Please retire already.
The Seahawks did something right. Wow.
@Raven: Really? We’re talking about a guy who lost to Western Michigan, Indiana and Minnesota in the last three years despite having more talent than all three schools. If Juice Williams had received decent coaching during his career, I think he would have been a good college quarterback. Instead after a promising 2007 season he regressed in 2008 and 2009. With a competent coach and the same talent, I think they’d have had at least 1-2 games a year for the last couple of years.
If someone is found hanging, it’s usually suicide. Not always, as in the tragic murder of Adrienne Shelly, but usually.
@BD of MN:
Vince Young is not doing too badly. But the Patsies are just steamrolling the Eagles’ defense. It’s horrible.
If I were a Texans fan, I’d start asking if the stadium was built on an ancient burial ground or something. I feel bad for them at this point.
@burnspbesq: BC is hosting the Grey Cup this year. Offhand I’m curious how many times in 99 years a finalist has gotten to play at home.
It’s a bit surprising that the officials have had to step between the two teams on the field, during warmups. Hey, whaddya think this is guys, hockey?
Also, they’ve had to actually bring in a spare set of first-down ‘chains’ after the regular ones were discovered broken. Note: This is not a metric-v.-English joke.
Vince started hot, but he’s off target lately. And what happened to his running? He used to be a threat, but he not running away from anyone today. Too many whoppers?
Plus the fact that the Iggles can’t stop the Pats at all. Unless Vince could lead his team to a TD on every possession, he wasn’t going to win it for them. The ’tissue paper’ defense isn’t working. Maybe they should try a brown paper bag. For their heads. For my money, Reid has to be one of the worst coaches and personnel managers ever. Tons of great skill players, but no line to speak of. He’s a master of doing less with more.
Well this is disappointing, My station switched from the iggles and pats to Tebow. I’m just not that much into religion and football at the same time.
@Mark B.: When Reid started he was interesting and innovative. But it’s utterly unfathomable that it’s been difficult for the Eagles to score inside the 10 for, like, 10 consecutive years, at a minimum.
@befuggled: You have a reading issue? I said he had to go.
well that was an unexpectedly semi-competent effort from my team….. yay ‘Skins, was nice to see them play well… kinda sorta
Icing the kicker never works.
Except when it does. Another Tebowing? Or a tie?
I can’t believe it. This whole thIng of having a quarterback who is good at throwing is overrated.
It’s like Tebow made a deal with Satan or something.
@Mark B.: Tebow is leaning on Denver’s defense. When they played another team with good defense, Detroit, they were crushed.
Tebow is like a player from the leather helmet days. Single wing, skiddoo! Ridiculous.
It’s too bad Denver played Green Bay pre-Tebow.
If Denver’s defense plays just a little bit worse, Tebow is basically Blaine Gabbert. There’s not that much difference between the two, production-wise.
