    The Chiefs suck. Fact, not opinion. Those fans deserve better, yet there they sit dressed all in red filling that stadium year after year after year waiting for the second coming of Len Dawson and instead they get Matt Cassell. What’s the matter with Kansas? They’re a bunch of corn fed motherfucking morans.

    I just got my computer back and it’s running better than I ever remember. I now have a computer guy and he’s the best ever. I think I’m in love(not really, he’s married and really not my type) but I spilled wine on it about 7 months ago and it hasn’t worked right since. He can’t believe it was working at all after I did that. Anyway, yay me!

    There’s a reason why nobody runs the option in the NFL, eventually, your QB is going to get hurt, period. The personnel you need to run the option is different from a “pro-style” offense. If your option QB gets hurt, you better damn well have a backup option QB, because you can’t just flip a switch and start running a “West Coast” offense.

    I think quite a few people would argue (including me), that being a coordinator at LSU or Alabama, is a better job than being head coach at the majority of schools in the country.

    Someone like Mike Leach is exactly who they are going to end up with, now that Rich Rod is off the market. Head coach at Illinois is a hard sell in 2011 for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that, you are going head to head with Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Notre Dame for the same recruits. Even with Penn State weakened, it’s still a daunting task.

    As a Bears fan I have to say I despise Mike Martz. The dumbest fucking offensive genius ever. You have second and 1 from the five, you’re running the ball at will, and you decide to try a screen pass? Even if your QB wasn’t starting his first game ever, this would have been a moronic idea. And it’s not a regular screen, but one where the QB roles to the right then throws all the way back across the field, making it even more difficult. So instead of going into half-time with at least a field goal and the lead, the interception is returned 80+ yards and gives a score and the momentum to the Raiders.
    This guy makes more idiotic calls in the red zone than any coach I’ve ever seen, all trying to prove how unpredictable he is.
    And how difficult is it to figure out that with an inexperienced QB, and your running backs averaging over 5 yards a carry against a woeful run defense that maybe, just maybe, you should spend the bulk of the game handing the ball off. Is there anything more pathetic than a coach that is incapable of adjusting his game plan to the conditions that actually exist? I’ll bet he’s a Republican and believes that the answer to every economic condition is deregulation and tax cuts.

    OTOH, the Broncos seem to have done a good job of moving from a conventional pro-style offense to the option when they decided Plan A wasn’t working. Maybe the option is a good choice as Plan B. At the very least, it’s different from what defenses are used to trying to stop. I think there’s some value to being different from everybody else.

    From an Iliini message board:

    Zook is a class act, a great guy. I think it is time to start fresh with a new coach however. We had some really memorable times under coach Zook’s tenure. We were an illegal formation call at Iowa from a Big Ten title, the year we went to Pasadena. He did everything you could have asked out of a coach, he ran a clean program and he loved our University, but the one thing he didn’t do was get the W’s. Maybe the next coach can, maybe not. Either way it was time for a change, I wish him well in his future, good luck Zook

    I’m sure to some of the players, Zook was the only father figure they have ever had. This must be a very difficult time for those players, but I’m confident in saying they were in good hands with Zook, and they will carry themselves as better men for it.

    Yep. That’s what me, and the rest of the fans of Georgia Tech, tell ourselves too.

    Usually, that statement gets painfully countered by a good team. In our case, it was Georgia removing us from our fantasy land. In Dever’s case, it will Belichick and Brady performing the same function.

    I’ve been here before in the NFL too. It was Tampa Bay, that showed the rest of the league, how to defend Mike Vick when he was a Falcon. Being different, works up until the other team is so much better, that it doesn’t matter how different you are.

    @moderateindy:
    Of course you despise Martz. You are a Chicago fan. It comes with the territory. This is the town that ran off Phil Jackson but still worships Mike (Eddie Muster) Ditka. (sigh)

    My Pats whalloped the Eagles, so I’m happy. Next week: The Indie Colts. For some indefinable reason, it won’t be the same. Can’t quite put my finger on why.

    Anyway, if you haven’t already seen this, please help keep a fellow lefty/blogger/novelist and his missus and cat indoors during the holidays. Rent day is Thursday. I’ll be willing to send free copies of my novels on request.

    I have to ask, even though I love the guy: is it Tomlin? Because this team never takes bad teams seriously, and that tendency needs to stop.

    You know, I’m surprised we haven’t heard unanimous praise-phrases like that from the Republicans so far. Once they choose a candidate, you can bet we will.

    And pretty much for the same reason as the original of the one you quote.

    @techno:
    Ran off Phil Jackson? What planet are you on? Phil left because he was smart enough to realize that because of the teams age and contractual situations, there was little if any upside to continue coaching here. If there was anyone hoping for Phil’s departure it was the front office and not the fans.You never heard anyone calling for Phil to go. If you had even the slightest knowledge of Chicago sports you would also know that while Ditka is beloved for bringing a Championship, craploads of people were calling for his ouster in the final couple years of his tenure.
    And Martz sucks. Anyone that has an ego so big that he prohibits his QB’s from ever calling audibles is an idiot. Last year it took him 8 weeks, and this year 4-5 to figure out that if you have a crappy O-line you might want to reconsider sending everyone out in pass patterns 15+ yards deep, and having your QB take 7 step drops. He’s probably shortened Cutler’s career by a couple of years because of all the extra punishment he took running the “Genius'” offense.

    @moderateindy:
    Martz is a football ideologue. In St. Louis, when he had the tools to run about anything his offense worked. But he does not adjust to his players and their strengths and weaknesses. His offense was immensely fun to watch when I lived in St. Louis, it is often painful(like today) to watch in Chicago. And I agree with moderateindy@56, the call for a screen on second and one at the five is one of the worst calls I have ever seen.
