On my agenda: a challenging drive. I’m on my way home to Atlanta after several weeks in Canada. Currently overnighting in Port Huron, Michigan, just looked out the window, and there’s heavy blowing snow going on. Will check forecasts and conditions carefully before I take off, but I’m not relishing the prospect of this part of the trek! (And yes, I’ll be careful and won’t do anything rash.)

Up too damn early, aargh. Work, then errands and a manicure. Counting down to Christmas break in 10.5 workdays.

@Raven: I didn’t receive a confirmation. Maybe the program wasn’t set up that way.
Last years calendar was great and I anxiously await the 2012 calendar ad to appear on the right so that I can order a few and pay for them.

Congratulations, your route, of any route anyone in the US could take by car today, covers more territory that will have snow today then any other.

    Be careful.

The guns are coming for Newt

Newt Gingrich is adamant that he is not a lobbyist, but rather a visionary who traffics in ideas, not influence. But in the eight years since he started his health care consultancy, he has made millions of dollars while helping companies promote their services and gain access to state and federal officials.

@Raven: Raven, sorry I missed your earlier message. Can’t do it now, but this evening I plan to go into the dedicated account & send a brief ‘received’ note to every contributor. I’ll put up an announcement in an open thread once I’ve done that, so anyone who hasn’t heard back will know to contact me. Fair?

Very nice video. That’s a Well Hang he’s playing, also known as a Hang Drum or Handpan (don’t like that last one) and yeah, it’s amazing. Check out this guy, Dante Bucci. Lots of good vids on Youtube.

G’morning, folks! So it’s back to the grind for me, we got back from New York yesterday and now it’s time to get back to work.

    :-(

Chik-fil-A, that Christian fast food restaurant, has done one of those dick corporate moves that always piss us ordinary people off. Maybe they need to do a little practicin’ what they’re preachin’.

Dinner tonight at an Indian restaurant, but don’t know which one yet. It’s my birthday!. (I guess I’m now officially a geezer.)

I’m not going to the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center — it’s too late and it’ll be way too crowded for the late comers to see anything.

There’s a fracking hearing in NYC today. There aren’t any plans to frack in the city (yet) – this is about the upstate areas that supply the city’s drinking water.

Bloomberg, the 1% incarnate, is against fracking while Cuomo, the progressive hero, is for it.

This ought to break some people’s minds.

    Congratulations and happy celebrations!

In my experience, few Indian restaurants serve frosted birthday cakes (will candles in rice pudding do?), but perhaps the wait staff could serenade you in Hindi, Bengali or Urdu. Cheers!

    There’s more…

WaPo/ABC News is showing Romney with 56% favorability and Gingrich with 60% favorability. Romney’s favorability has actually gone up among independents and the very conservative since last month.

And the NYT has a front-page story on Newt the (not formally registered) lobbyist that I didn’t read yet.

thanks to everyone for such a great response to the call for photos.
