Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Fight them, without becoming them!

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

“woke” is the new caravan.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

And WVU wins a very stressful game. If I am on your dead pool for 2011, your Spidey sense should have been tingling somewhere around the 2nd turnover in the 2nd half, when I thought fer sure I was going to coming to meet Elizabeth. But they won, I live, and life goes on. For now.

Consider this an open thread.

Shame on you for missing a well placed Sandford & Son reference.

@JGabriel: the old TV show Sanford and Son, whenever Fred Sanford would claim to be having a heart attack, usually such claims timed to get him out of trouble for some shenanigans or other, he would call out to his deceased wife “Elizabeth! I’m coming to ya!”

Yeah that was a great game up until they started turning the ball over. That pick 6 was was so stupid. I couldn’t watch the last three minutes so I’m glad to hear it all turned out well. Didn’t think USF was going to even come close.

I feel a little guilty because I had a really fun day at work while a whole lot of people in my area were having a really sucky day. I haven’t heard the winds start back up again, but they’re talking about them hitting further west (Malibu and the west SF Valley) so I think we missed the worst of it.

So how does this work? West Virginia wins the Big East if Cincinnati wins but not if they lose?

I don’t personally hate the BCS as much as most people do, but it is a crime that the Big East (and to a lesser extant, the ACC) get automatic bids.

Damn. I meant to watch that game. Forgot all about it.

I think I’m going to take in the Big Ten Championship Game this Saturday. It’s about 15 minutes from my house and tickets are going to be cheap. I was quoted $13 for a single and $19 each for 4 together. And don’t care about who wins in the least. I’m a Ohio State grad and my daughter goes to Purdue.

    Go Big Ten.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: I’m curious about the demographics of all the sites I visit. I don’t remember a survey here, but if John can set one up (without costing himself any $$$ to do it- if that’s possible) I think it would be fun.

I was at the game. While South Florida (damn them) didn’t do enough in the first half offensively (as well as making stupid mistakes in the special teams dept.), the refs during the last few minutes of the game were terrible horrible mandroids. How long does the WVU QB sit in the pocket before a holding penalty gets called on the O-line? (Answer: as long as the QB gets the pass downfield twenty seconds later, which is basically “The Holding Never Gets Called”) And instead they nail the Bulls for a Hands-to-facemask penalty that kept the Mouseketeers drive alive.

Part of me hates how the season ended, but the other part is kind of glad USF ended with a 5-7 season. No more delusions about being a good team every year scraping a minor bowl invite with an 8-4 or 7-5 record. With luck there will be some serious shaking-up in the football program: new coordinators for the secondary and WRs would help, as well as getting an AD who will schedule Big East games earlier in the year (every year we go 4-0 or 5-0 beating up Division AA schools and one Division I-A having a bad weekend like Notre Dame or Auburn, and then midseason we hit the Big East schedule and start getting our asses kicked).

So, apologies to those who can’t stand Sully-talk but for those of us who take pleasure in noting what a fvcktard tool he is: today we had “Dear Ta-Nehisi”, one of the most maudlin and self-aggrandizing things I’ve ever read. Andrew you see, grapples . He grapples with issues, which is actually a job he gets paid for, about his long obsession with the idea that black people are inherently less intelligent. Like, that peculiar bone that this dog just won’t fucking give up. Andrew grapples with things, and then award himself a medal for being so daring as to declare negroes inferior. PC be damned! Oh my god he is an awful wreck of a person, truly.

And so condescending in his humblebragging. Like, condescending to TNC by talking himself up about he’s such an iconoclast, ; ie a gay person who totally dismissed the gay community at the height of the AIDS crisis, criticized the tactics of activist like Act-Up that did have the dramatic effect of spreading awareness and speeding up the development of the drugs that AS presumably takes to stay alive. ( I’ll leave out his shilling for drug companies and his “bareback” personal ads.) Andrew was an absolute traitor to the gay community when it mattered.

And today, he’s pretending to be having a “dialogue” with TNC, but it’s really a long love-letter to himself, how he grapples with things, but basically congratulates himself for his own bravery by saying black people are inferior and he is compelled to tell us this because he is a brave truth-teller or some shit. Such a ghastly prejudice to harp on for over a decade, just terrible. But, why does he do it?

(And for what it’s worth, the guy who does the Daily Howler has noted that African-American students today have made astonishing strides, they exceed those of white students in 1980 in test scores for example. I realize it’s not necessarily related, and 1980 was a world away but, there’s been real progress. In my experience, African-Americans value and esteem education highly, above and beyond my lazy white peers in the 80’s who took things like college for granted. Imagine that. Blows my mind now, how lucky we were, lower middle class but college was the thing to do, possible. Black friends I knew , they never took that for granted. Just thinking aloud.)

Andrew Sullivan is an expert in nothing, he is astonishingly tone-deaf and ignorant of this country here, that he emigrated to 25 years ago. Seriously, AS knows jack-shit about America. The country that really blessed him with a career, because his brand of shit wouldn’t be tolerated in the UK, he’d be eaten alive there. He likes to fancy himself some special snowflake forever. And has the audacity to praise himself here for being so daring as to say ..well just to repeat the worst racist things of four centuries or more: black people are just genetically dumber, he seems to insist on. And he is so fucking wrong. My God, so damned wrong.
