Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

From commentor Wanda:

Her name is Taffy. She is Chihuahua mixed with Beagle. After being dumped out in the middle of the street by a previous owner, she was struck by two cars. She’s had surgery on her legs, but is still able to run and play with the exception of jumping. So no more jumping. She needed to be taught to drink out of a bowl. Classical music keeps her calm when she’s scared. She’s a sweetheart, but she would best be placed in a home with NO children or other pets. She’s a year and a half and if she doesn’t find a home soon the shelter she’s at, she will be put down…

I have a phone number — if you have any suggestions, or leads, leave a comment or email me at [email protected] (or click on my name near the top of the right-hand column).

Taffy looks like a sweetie. I’ll bet she would like to sleep with a nice, calm human. And watch TV. And . . .

What a sad story. Thank goodness she needs to be in a home with no other pets or I could almost break my no more pets rule.

Such a sweetie. I’m on the other side of the country and have three semi-feral cats who would not be pleased. But I hope she finds a home ASAP!

Try your local Chihuahua rescue group. I bet they’ll take her. Good luck and I agree with Chopper. One of Dante’s rings has to be set up for people who hurt and abandon animals.

Also, if she is part-beagle, you might want to try: http://www.beaglesandbuddies.com

ETA: I’ve never worked with them myself but have heard good things and they are in the greater LA area…

Ah crap. I’m in Ohio and living with 4 dogs. So, no go here. But damn, she’s sweet enough to remove my chihuahua disdain.

can you create a post on facebook with her photo and bio description? if so, you can post it to local rescue groups (beagles & buddies was a good suggestion). These sort of pleas are helped out by monetary offerings – e.g “$150 to 501c3 group who pulls her” – but even better is the possibility of a foster home. If there is someone willing to foster her, it should be easy to get her pulled by a group. Most groups do NOT have facilities & would need somewhere for her to live & be loved in the meantime. Also include her “review date” which should be on her online shelter posting or kennel card. good luck!!

Not to be contrarian, but things may not be what they seem re: the drivers.

I went to my dentist a couple of weeks ago. Everyone there is very familiar with my habit of taking in strays and finding them homes for the past 15 years.

One of the techs came by to say hello while I was paying and told me her sad story. She was driving in the evening and while someone was tailgating her, a kitten ran out in front of her. She ran over it and felt awful. She turned around as soon as she could, only to find it was dead. She cried and cried.

Now I know the people who ran over this pup didn’t do as much, but maybe they didn’t know, or there were some other circumstances. I also know that people can be careless and cruel.

I felt sad for the tech and told her that all was right with the world. I had rescued a little girl pup and she had found a good home instead of dying from starvation or the damn dog packs that run around these parts.

It seemed to make her feel a little better.

I hope this pup finds a home. Thanks to BJ for running this sort of post. It’s a great help to those of us who take in strays.

    @clayton:

I think commenters (at least me) were upset about the people who dumped her, not the ones who hit her necessarily.

@gogol’s wife: Living near a place where pets are dumped also makes me feel that way at times, though I try very hard not to be too judgmental.

One of my current pups was part of a litter that I rescued from the park down the street. The lot of them had been dumped.

Sure, it’s cruel and inhumane to do such a thing, but I think it is a sign of our times. Pets can be expensive and getting them fixed even more so.

I recently heard a local wingnut going on about a local charity that spays and neuters for a minimal charge if people qualify for government assistance. And this was in a local pet supplier’s parking lot! How dare they! How dare poor people have pets! How dare they get a break that working people don’t get!

You can see how pets get dumped.

Wait until it is children I guess. Then where does your rage go? Which circle of hell?

Why the no kids or other pets rule? Sounds like condemning her to death for no good reason. My kids are 14 and 17, my dog well socialized, but we wouldn’t be better than death? Sounds like the dog has temperment issues.

I have 2 websites on dogs, and always fail to understand how people are just so cruel and heartless to dump their animals when they don’t want them any more.

@Lymie: Although I very much disagree with clayton, since I think you’ve asked a legitimate question, without an answer I can only guess. Perhaps she’s snippy with kids. Perhaps she’s dog agressive. That means that you would have to be an extremely committed owner willing to work with her issues; separating her from your dog, making sure they don’t eat in the same room or at the same time, making sure they don’t get into turf wars about who goes through a door first. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but even a kill shelter wants to place her where she won’t come back to them. It’s why they put “would be best,” however, to leave their options open.

It seems “would be best” is there because she’s very sensitive…not because she’s aggressive. And needs calm, quiet and such just to get acclimated and over the severe trauma of what she went through.

I received the notification from a friend so this may also account for may having a different take. The animals he sends notices on or about have always been true “gems”.

Figured this is the case with this little sweetheart.

    IS FOSTERING A POSSIBILITY?
