Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Petty moves from a petty man.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

How stupid are these people?

Let there be snark.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

There are some events tomorrow that may merit your attention:

  • David Brooks will be on Book TV.  Word ’round the campfire is he’ll be taking live calls.  Noon to three is a little early for me to start drinking so I may need your help.  I will call, I promise you that, but I welcome your help in formulating questions. (Thanks to reader T.)
  • In happier news, James Wolcott and Tbogg will be discussing James Wolcott’s new book at 5pm EDT tomorrow.  I love both of them.

If y’all hop over to FoxNews.com right now you will see a fairly blatant pro-Romney push on the front page that goes so far as to use the phrase “not-Romney vote” to describe support for Gingrich

Maybe that was you trolling redstate, but how about: “After the lynching of Cain, where can blacks find a good political role model?”

If he doesn’t mention Obama, he’ll look like an out-of-touch old white guy. If he does, he’ll have to say something nice.

It’s simply incomprehensible why this asshole draws any attention whatsoever. Is he considered the thinking man’s Glenn Beck?

Also, here’s my favorite comment on the current FoxNews.com bury-Cain story, “Let’s Quit Bashing Women”:

These women made the choice to get into a character debate with a person running for political office. I am not saying one way or the other if they were honest with their original claims. I am merely pointing out, that the women’s actions were actually counter-productive for protecting women from being bashed when they do make valid claims. Its like the little boy that cried wolf. Eventually people get tired of people abusing protections they are given, and their ends up being negative repercussions for others that aren’t abusing those protections.

Yeah, chew on that. Keep in mind Nate Silver’s piece on how conservative blogs overwhelmingly defended Cain on allegation after allegation, often by slut-shaming the women who came forward.

    @AA+ Bonds:
So let me see if I get this right: the women who accused Cain were wrong to do so even if they were being honest, because accusing him is abusing their protections. That doesn’t even begin to make sense, unless you assume that it’s always wrong to accuse somebody important, even if the accusations are accurate. That’s just awful.

Then you’ll see how events in the past are the result of current MSM attacks on Cain.

Bobo is such a cancer on humanity (when I typed that I thought for second, “is that hyperbolic?”, but then I realized nah, not really) that it’s hard to come up with a funny/snarky/derisive question that will get his goat. I just can’t think of anything that would really get to him, since he is so humorless and smug. Second, any ‘serious’ question you ask him will be brushed aside, because if you challenge him, he likely just won’t accept your premise and will evade.

Not that I spent my evening on the subject, but it just depresses me that anyone even bothers with this simpleton.

I think I’m gonna have a bourbon on the rocks and think about going to sleep.

how much did you get for selling your soul?

do your pits smell when you get on a crowded elevator?

    what’s your favorite Applebee’s entree?

David Brooks should nevertheless be asked to comment on live TV regarding Douthat’s chunky Reese Witherspoon story and if you don’t think it can happen you haven’t seen CSPAN2

I suggest you tell him you’re about to give him a quote from Ross Douthat to comment on and then start reading that quote aloud until you’re cut off.

@srv: No, he’d just attack your premise. Cain wasn’t attacked because he was black, he was attacked because he wasn’t as serious as godsent Mitt “sensible” Romney, blah blah blah.

Bobo may be a jackass, but he’s not such a political newbie as to be trapped by a few implicit assumptions slipped into a question like that.
