Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fani Willis claps back at Trump chihuahua, Jim Jordan.

“Why isn’t this Snickers bar only a nickel?”

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

When the time comes to make an endorsement, the pain of NYT editors will be palpable as they reluctantly whisper “Biden.”

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

A consequence of cucumbers

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Let me file that under fuck it.

The lights are all blinking red.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Maybe you would prefer that we take Joelle’s side in ALL CAPS?

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Another shot from the calendar submissions. From commentor Josie:

Here is Teddi, my Akbash goat-guarding dog, who guards me and any other creatures who take up residence here, currently consisting of two other dogs, two cats, two parrots and several doves. Also included is Emma, my son’s pug, who is with us temporarily. Teddi is not overly fond of her, but she guards her just as seriously as she guards the rest of us. Teddi reluctantly shares her bed with the little pest – note how they divide the bed exactly in half, as though they were the same size. Teddi is very old and arthritic and has a bed in each room, which Emma finds very handy.

This was Mr Big. We rescued him so never really knew what breed he was but he sure looked similar to Teddi. He was about 130 lbs and one of the greatest ball chasers in the world. When I would take him downtown he always drew a crowd!

Heck, emma is an angel when compared to my pug, jenny. The bitch wants the whole sofa and the bed to herself all the time. She disdains her mattresses on the floor.

we had a part Chi part Manchester Terrier when I was growing up, and a black mutt with some Lab blood named George. Pup, the little one, had a small box in the garage. One day we went out there and George was sleeping in the small box, which was basically smashed since he was about 4 times too big for it!

don’t you love how pets will stretch lengthwise and diagonal across the bed whereby you have a tiny, cramped space in which to sleep, lest you disturb their precious sleep and comfortableness? =)

@harlana: It’s one reason I’m up at 4:30! Of course both our dogs are usually in the rack with us and my bride will not hear of getting a bigger bed.

@Raven: Mr. Big definitely looks like an akbash. They are as big as the other white guarding dogs, but they have a more slender build and face structure. The personality and intelligence are amazing.

@Raven: Moxie sleeps later than me. I get up at five and she prances out about six. She needs her beauty sleep.
Pugs are so darn cute but because of their squishy face, they tend to snore.

@Josie: He was an amazing dog. My first wife and I rescued him and, when we split up, she kept him. He badly broke his leg and she was unable to care for the nasty rods that they put in so we took him and nursed him back to health (helped by Raven who was a pup at the time). When my x left town she couldn’t take him so we had him for another 8 months before he died, just long enough to really fall in love with him again.

God I hate Republicans. This made me laugh, in a mordant way:

“I had an employer tell me of an overwhelming response for job openings,” Kingston said in a statement. “There was just one problem: half the people who applied could not even pass a drug test.” Earlier this year, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) used an identical anecdote to promote drug testing the jobless. When HuffPost checked the claim, however, it turned out to be completely false — the employer said it tested only new hires, not applicants. And among new hires, less than 1 percent flunked a drug test. Haley later admitted her claim was bogus, but did not relent in her support for drug testing the unemployed.

@harlana: And how even the smallest dog can somehow stretch out long enough to take up an entire couch? Gaby is only 45 lbs. A medium-size pup. When she stretches, she positions herself so that there’s not enough room at either end for a person to sit.

Unless she wants to rest her head in your lap. Then room magically appears.

@Mark S.: The scumbags in the House are adding all sorts of crazy shit to their version of the payroll tax cut and unemployment extension. They are nihilists that want to destroy everything.

Re-posting from last night’s post and thread about Noot (I love this version of his name).

Somewhat OT. I’ve recommended BJers to read Making Light, the blog of Teresa and Patrick Neilsen Hayden.

    http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/

Today I highly recommend it. Teresa has written a post (Krugman is from Trantor; Gingrich ain’t) that is pertinent and relevant to this post and politics in general.

There is another post, also by Teresa, concerning PayPal that BJers might find interesting: Regretsy and the Insane PayPal Clusterf*ck.

    Go read them.

I have errands to run outside (—- at least I’ll be away from the jackhammering over my head –) so I won’t be around to connect in a non-choatic way with discussions for a few hours.

Teddi is killing me. He is laying the same way my Otis does that I find to be most endearing. That sprawl with the legs straight out. I react to it the way other women react to babies.

My living room used to look like that.We had a collie and a pug. We bought a big bed for the collie adn a little bed for the pug. The pug was a determined, selfish, persistant mainfestation of unrestrained id and the collie knew it so you can fiuger out who got which bed.

if this fact was brought before the Arizona Legislature, they would state that this is not the time to discuss income disparity, much like they did with proposed legislation to limit the size of clips available for glock semi-automatic handguns, like they did post the shootings in Tucson.
