Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

‘Museums aren’t America’s attic for its racist shit.’

In my day, never was longer.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Somebody needs to explain to DeSantis that nobody needs to do anything to make him look bad.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

This one goes out to Rick “Montemayor” Perry:

ETA:

Dan “Bee” Spears, who played bass on the road with Willie Nelson for more than 40 years and appeared on many of his classic albums, died unexpectedly late Thursday.

My condolences to his family.

I mentioned this in the last thread, but since this is an open thread, I’ll say it again. Guess who Penn State have hired to provide legal advice to the university president. It’s quite amazing.

This is pretty hilarious. AP via GOS:

Business mogul Donald Trump said Friday he might scrub a presidential debate that so far has drawn only Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.
    __
    […]
    __
Trump was most indignant about Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann skipping out.
    __
“She came up to see me four times. She would call me and ask me for advice,” Trump said. “She said if she wins, she would like to think about me for the vice presidency. Most importantly, I did a two-hour phone call for her with her people. … And after all that, she announced she was not going to do the debate. It’s called loyalty. How do you do that? It’s amazing to me.”

Loyalty. This from the guy who said he might run as an independent if he doesn’t like the GOP nominee.

I don’t think that word means what you think it means, Donald.

Dunno if this was covered in a previous topic, but just in case:

“Lowe’s pulls ads from ‘All-American Muslim’ after ‘ordinary’ portrayal protested”

Under protest from the “Florida Family Association”, Lowe’s, and reputedly other companies, have pulled ads from the show because apparently, considering a Muslim Family as “All American” is to support jihad by minimizing its threat.

“The show profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish,” the group said about the show, a docu-soap chronicling everyday Muslim families in Dearborn, Michigan. “Clearly this program is attempting to manipulate Americans into ignoring the threat of jihad and to influence them to believe that being concerned about the jihad threat would somehow victimize these nice people in this show.”

Stunningly, it seems like this is the kind of stuff this show is trying to dispute. But no, we can’t have that, because we all know every Muslim is a terrorist or a secret terrorist waiting to kill us all in our beds. Nope, can’t be real Americans at all ever, they’re bloodthirsty monsters, to the last.

    Good fuck all….

Now why would a Democrat do that when Perry is so good at illustrating for the American public that the GOP is just as dumb and bigoted as we’ve been saying all along?

One of my favorite books has a new edition. I may need to find another $70 in the hobby fund and update my library.
    Watchmaking, by George Daniels, MBE
This volume is the gold standard on the art and craft of hand fabricating portable mechanical timepieces. It has history, design, micro-machining, and technical illustration of fetishistic exactitude. For a certain kind of nerd it’s irresistible.
