Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A consequence of cucumbers

Let’s finish the job.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

There’s always a light at the end of the frog.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

No Justins, No Peace

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

The gop couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Maybe you would prefer that we take Joelle’s side in ALL CAPS?

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

This country desperately needs a functioning Fourth Estate.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Bogus polls are all they’ve got left. Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls a year from now.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

“woke” is the new caravan.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

    @schrodinger’s cat:
    Easy.

I went by a LaRouche table yesterday and they wanted me to impeach Obama. I said no and then they asked me if I like Richard Cheney. I didn’t answer.
They won’t get many converts being nasty, unless they rope in some Rush fans.

Aren’t eyes miraculous in a way we can’t explain?. How one moment we see someone and know they are just gazing, and a moment later know they are now staring intently?

Today we get out Christmas tree. Another great thing about the PNW is Christmas trees are very inexpensive. We are going to a lot that sells Noble firs for $10 any size. We cut or they do it for us.

    @cathyx:
Nobles are very hard to get on the east coast. I worked in a place that got about 10 one year. They sold out in two days. They are so beautiful.

@Maude: Nobles make the perfect christmas tree. For an 8 ft Noble I will pay $10 but for that same tree back east it would cost over $100. At least it did 15 years ago when I used to live there.

After reading about Senate Republicans likely blocking the confirmation of our current recessed-appointed Ambassador to El Salvador, it got me thinking how many truly talented, competent people they’ve blocked during Obama’s term.

Off the top of my head, Dawn Johnson(OLC), Dr. Peter Diamond(Fed), Elizabeth Warren(CFPB), Richard Cordray(CFPB), Caitlan Halligan(Circuit Court), Goodwin Liu(Circuit Court), Dr. Don Berwick(Head Centers for Medicare/Medicaid). There are more judicial and executive nominees that withdrew themselves from consideration after waiting months for a vote that never came, but I can’t recall there names.

This should be a huge scandal, but the media continues to pretend it is business as usual. Hell, Politico is actively rationalizing their behavior. We’re doomed.

The dogs and I go to the farmer’s market on Saturday where I buy them marrow bones. I give them one each to keep the lil one from yapping while I go shopping. I take the rest home, freeze em and then have them for the cycle the following Saturday. Alas, next week is the last day until April so the frozen stash will have to last.

    Libby's person

    December 10, 2011 at 12:52 pm

I’ve been experiencing that pleading stare for two days. Libby’s got an upset gut, and she wasn’t allowed to eat anything solid for a full 24 HOURS, and then she only got a little rice and boiled chicken. Those big, sad eyes – “Did you forget to feed me, or are you deliberately starving me to death? Did I do something wrong, or are you (my beloved human) just a mean, evil being? Oh, woe!” She’s does ‘pathetic’ very well when suitably motivated. Sigh.

I’m shocked that lobbyists in Washington could gut reforms of a crooked system simply by spreading money around. I guess it’s just poor kids who are being fleeced by Kaplan, though, so no biggie.
