SWTOR is here. See you all in 2012.

BTW- I very seriously thought about banning DougJ for life today, because I have had that hideous Paul McCartney song stuck in my head for days.

ok, since there are a lot of gamers here.

I have a question. I”m sure I”ve asked it before, but whatevs.

I have a Nintendo Wii. I used to have a Gamefly account, but I cancelled it because it was a waste of time since the games I like to play don’t seem to be in large supply.

So my question to ya’ll is: what games would ya’ll recommend for someone who liked CSI, first person, mysterys and adventure games? Would I like “uncharted”???

I do like to play combat games, but since I play alone, combat games like Mortal Kombat are not as fun to me as beating someone else.

    Any suggestions?

Truth is most effectively ascertained by Geometry, and is proven to be absolute in the 47th Proposition of Euclid. Namely, the sum of the squares of two sides of a right triangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. From there, everything becomes slightly more foggy, one specific example being those persistent rumors that I am some manifestation of DougJ’s desire, in one of those deep, dark places within his (my) fallible human heart, to be a straight white male.

Now, HEREBY and Hereon, FOREVER Forth know the following: Should this rumor be True, it is only because I like to touch goats.

I’ve never played it on the WII though. I used to own it for the PS3 but I gave it away. I just don’t tend to like the results of mixing Action/Adventure with FPS, which is kind of what uncharted was to me.

If *you* are big FPS fan – AND if it bears a passing resemblance to the PS3 version, you may enjoy it, though.

The thing is huge, I started it over at Lvl 54 with 329 locations discovered because at “Adept” game difficulty I was essentially invulnerable and had bugged several quests (and I’d finished the main line). Bethesda just sent me a download last night which I hope fixes some of the cockups. One complaint I have is that the Random characters don’t level up as you do and become no more than gnats, even in the high double digit numbers.

I’m not sure how much you can read about Japanese culture in general by watching Anime. Although some of it is aimed at older people, it skews almost as heavily toward young people as American animation does. If they have a lot of shows that focus on sexy teenagers, that’s probably because the target audience largely consists of teenagers with typical teen interest in sex.

@Litlebritdifrnt: I loves me some ABL. She’s one of the main reasons I visit BJ, and I look forward to her posts with the glee of kid on christmas.

But on matters of Obama, I don’t put much stock in her opinion. If she says something regarding something Obama did or didn’t do, I tend to want a second opinion. It’s not that shes outright mendacious, but she’s bent over backward to support some of his actions in the past. She’s not always wrong, but on matters of Obama, it’s how she behaves when she *is* wrong that blows it for me. Funny thing about that last sentence. I say the exact same thing about Glenn Greenwald. Same dynamic, different players.

And frankly, I don’t think the bill has much to do with Obama in any case.

Disclaimer: I didn’t read the bill. But I read the whitepaper they released with it. It doesn’t pass the smell test.

When I see the words Medicare and Reform appear adjacent to each other on some written text, it usually tends to tickle my bullshit detector. I do not support this bill. You don’t need to read the whole bill to see what you are being sold. Read the whitepaper. It’s mendacious garbage.

But the worst part was when so many of her coworkers were laid off in the latest round.

The pisser is, she’s got the least seniority out of nearly the whole office (newish employee), but she’s multilingual, and very good at navigating the bureaucratic cespit effectively.

So despite her neophyte status, she’s one of the few employees who is nearly impossible to riff, or lay off.

Her coworkers were resentful enough when she went from temp to perm in under a year.

After the layoffs, I think some of her coworkers actually hate her now…

In a sane world, they(senate Republicans especially) would have been pilloried by the press for what they’ve done since Obama was sworn in. It was gone way beyond the typical political fighting.

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson(former Colin Powell Chief of Staff and Republican) essentially accused them of sedition last night on Maddow’s show. He came right out and said their only goal was destroying Obama at all costs.

@Chuck Butcher: That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing.

I nixed the lovers stone power though, in favor of taking that one that makes magic levelling faster – just because I tend to pop off here and there and level my restoration and destruction, while levelling my smithing, my enchanting, and my alchemy (currently my core focus at the moment)

I don’t mind so much about the smithing – I have money. I have a ton of iron vendors around. heh.

The enchanting is slightly more difficult, just because I haven’t found an effective way to mass-farm soul gems (nor as I understand it, can I capture the soul of a summon, so Azura’s star is nearly useless for this task, unlike in Oblivion). Still, those two level quickly enough.

Alchemy is the real pain in my arse. It’s costing me nearly 2 grand for each level I train at this point, and I don’t plan on making eleventy billion concoctions to get from 65 to 100 – heh)

FTR – I “cheat” but I don’t – depends on your definition. No cheat codes, but I’m not above using game gliches (neo-turtle tapping, heh). Basically as long as Steam allows it, it’s fair game in my book. So right now I’m using the manequin/armor dupe glitch to make my money fast. There’s another “infinite gold” glitch, but the method I’m using seems easier and is just as fast.

I agree with Gaz that Okami is a stunning game, and I quite liked Zelda: Twilight Princess for the same reason. She’s just started Zelda, Skyward Sword, and likes the new range of motion you can achieve with the controller — but the graphics have been rolled back to a more cotton-candyish palette, so I don’t find them quite as compelling. She also enjoyed Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands on the Wii; there are some amazing wall-walking puzzles you have to solve in that and, again, beautiful graphics.

Thanks! He’s adorable and adapting very well to his new home. Our Manx has met him and was purring and seemed very relaxed during the ritual face sniffing but warned him off with a small growl when he went to smell the other end. They have sniffed each other a few times now and both seem to be getting along well so far. I was worried about that because our Manx can be a little bitch with other animals who invade ‘her turf’. I think the tiny size makes a difference.

    December 15, 2011 at 11:44 pm

    @gaz:

If you get him some ‘nip, you better provide pics! I’ve had four Manx kittehs now, all female and all needy, whiny little bitches (mine is now standing up next to my chair, one paw on my leg, loudly demanding lap time). They are very territorial and pretty much one-owner cats. They will accept other people in the family but seemingly grudgingly at times. Our latest been the toughest one so far as she was formerly a feral and was captured at about six months of age. She was in such bad shape (and she slinked everywhere in fear) that it took me awhile to realize that she is a Manx. I thought she had maybe lost most of her tail in an accident as it’s got a curve in it.

Turns out that this is one of the mutations of the gene in the Manx. She has the long neck, dual layer coat, belly ruff, round head, round protruding chest, tall rear legs with rounded hindquarters and an attitude like my past three Manx; nasty. The females tend to be the ‘serious cat’ and not really all that playful, very much unlike the males. They tend to be small (she’s just over five pounds) but very mean cats when pushed. None of mine have ever been seen running from a dog, standing their ground and getting plain nasty if the dog decides to make the mistake of getting too close.

It took me over a year to tame her somewhat. Our bonding included an episode where she sunk a fang through a leather welding glove and into the first joint of my thumb, breaking the tooth off in the process. She’s still a wild kitty but she’s adapted well to living at a house. She could leave if she wanted to but she rarely ever leaves the property, only venturing into the closest adjoining yard once in awhile. She locked on to me and now she’s my “Baby” (as my wife says). She follows me everywhere (she’s about six feet away now, grooming) at home and naps when I’m gone. The only time I lose her is when it’s sunny out and she can hit the yard for a nice warm spot to bask in.

Cats are fun. A lot of work but definitely worth it for the companionship.

    This.

Certainly not the only reason, I prefer cats to many other pets, but one of them. They play favorites. A golden lab will often love anyone and everyone. But there’s nothing like a cat that loves you and hates everyone else to make you feel a little special somehow =P I like large birds for the same reason, too. maybe I’m just insecure. =)

So while the zealots are struggling to find proper software, I’ll be happily doing my thing while the fanbois diddle with half baked undone also-wares, or wait a year for a vendor to get around to a mac or linux release.
