Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

How can republicans represent us when they don’t trust women?

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Everybody saw this coming.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Innocent people don’t delay justice.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

“And when the Committee says to “report your income,” that could mean anything!

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Republicans in disarray!

Have Yourself a Merry Piggy Christmas

I’ve been saving this picture for a couple of days:

CHRISTMAS PIGGIES!

Those two are Desiree and Carl, and they are owned by my friends Harry and Chatman. Speaking of pigs, I’m off to feed Tunch some tuna.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone.

    Houston, we have a problem.

    Line One: Counsel for pigs.

    Line Two: Counsel for Tunch

OK, I can now say I’ve seen everything.

Merry Christmas BJers. Let there peace on earth, and short of that, let there be peace in your heart.

ETA: I love that the pig is named Carl. And that Desiree has a dainty skirt. Also.

Merry Christmas John and all BJer’s. I just ordered the calendar and hopefully the proceeds help Charlie’s Angels save many animals. Special thanks to Beth for the design.

Happy holidays, y’all. Coffee and chocolate chip pancakes have been consumed, Sunday paper (what of it there was) has been read and now we’re watching Sunday Morning. Shrimp and grits for Christmas dinner. Mmm-mm.

Why did I agree to have everyone over for breakfast? How drunk was I last night? If everything turns out, I’ll pull a JeffreyW and take pictures.

    Piggies! Cute Christmas piggies!

Said it in the last thread, but merry Christmas to all you Juicers. A lovely cold, clear day here in the ‘Burgh. Drinking coffee, eating some lemon pitzelles. Watching Sunday Morning and easing into the day.

I’m in charge of dips (and breads) for the feast at my sister’s, who owns my parents’ home. I made an onion dip that is better than anything you could possibly buy. And the other dip, an herb and feta concoction, may be one of the best things I’ve ever made. But last night’s standing rib roast may beat it by a hair.

Holidays are about food and family and I’m lucky to have excellence in both.

Merry Christmas everyone. Last night, I performed the annual I-95 sleigh ride from NJ to DC, leaving at 11pm and getting in at 3 am, dropped my sons off at their mom’s house and put some presents around the tree, including setting up an x-box at 4 in the morning and getting in a quick half of Madden 12, before getting out of there. I’m serving the Christmas meal at Walter Reed Military Medical Center today, which is always a heartening event for the troops and their families. Hopefully fewer wounded warriors this year, and more older vets. As far as my Christmas wish list, there’s only one thing on it…

Just a note for all of you who feed tuna to your cats. I know if you do it very rarely, it won’t have a detrimental effect, but if it’s done on a regular basis, the high mercury content is not good for them. Maybe try canned salmon instead.

‘n fried eggs and Christmas cookies with coffee, Smoky and Tiger and Jasmine bloated with tuna, everyone back asleep with the heater hissing. Now a very hot bath with eucalyptus oil, ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Then presents! This….it’s working, oh yes.

Oh! I LOVE LOVE LOVE those pigs!

Mr. Screaming and I have boiled down this holiday thing to almost nothing this year…not even a sauce, just a little crusted over moisture at the bottom of the pan, lol. This afternoon we’re going to the wilds of Alabama where I will sleep, read, watch movies, walk dogs and stare at the fire for six days. Bless the FSM.

Fried eggs with biscuits and Jimmy Dean sausage. Sighthound Kitty working a rawhide chew in front of the fire. A Christmas Story on the box. The Bumpus hounds just stole the turkey. I haven’t watched this in years; forgot how consistently good it is all the way through, not just the big set pieces.

Great; now you’ve got me thinking up a song Christmas Pigs (to the tune of War Pigs, but much happier):

    tearing into Christmas presents.

Even I, raised as I was to look upon swine as unclean creatures, think those little piggies look adorable.

Speaking of swine, let’s spare a thought for Noot, who has had his holidays spoiled somewhat by discouraging news. And has chosen to bear the disappointment with a truly presidential display of boundless self-pity.

Gave myself a mini-pie maker for Christmas, so it was blackberry-ginger pie for breakfast, and pear-cranberry pie for later. Dinner will be steak au poivre, mustard mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. And more pie.

And tonight is the Dr Who Christmas Special.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. Happy Sunday to those who don’t.

You mean he’s not driving away his sorrows with an extended shopping trip to Tiffany’s? And he didn’t even use it as an excuse to beg for more money! Where’s the real Newt Gingrich, and what have they done with him?
