Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

People are weird.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Pretty fair summary of 2011, from the “unelected legislators of the world”, and my thanks to commentor Middlewest for reminding me about DJ Earworm.
__
Have to admit, I’m liking this mashup better than any of the originals, apart from Pink and Adele of course. Good thing I’m nowhere near the Billboard target demographic!

Holy cow. I thought the earlier cole’s self-trolling thread on gg had the max no. of blog posts hitting the 450 mark.

This anti-mittens politico piece beats it hands down with 1.2k posts.

The rethugs base must be really, really pissed off.

More proof positive that there has not actually been any popular “music” created since the late 1980’s. Even music, not just the movies, is being destroyed by CGI, video, noise, and people pretending to be tough punks while dressed up in what they think are outrageous outfits. And the “music”? All sounds alike in its sad synthetic similitude.

Happy New Year’s Federal Holiday Day.

I can’t wait to see some surfing dogs on a float later today.

The Rose Parade. Start your lawnmowers.

If there are any BJ followers with time on their hands and a taste for history…I strongly recommend Leningrad, by Anna Reid. Excellent read, although the story of the 1941-1944 siege is a terrible one.

Got an early start on my garden planting. We’ve had a specimen for years, I always thought it was a butterfly bush and it was really attractive to hummers and bugs. It’s in a bad spot so Mrs J prunes it back to the nub every year lest it becomes over dominate. The new one we will let grow just to see how it turns out.

Um. It’s poets who are the unelected legislators of the world, at least as far as Shelley was concerned, who first penned the phrase.

@HeartlandLiberal: Yep, I know, if they would just used different notes and different languages, they could have prevented this sort of thing.

The pieces DJ Earworm are so small, he could have done the same thing to any genre.

    Get-off-my-radio arguments are really pointless.

I’m certain they will ignore this advice, but Benjamin Franklin, Kola Noscopy, and others who believe things about the NDAA’s detention provisions that are manifestly wrong should go read the two-part post by Marty Lederman and Steve Vladeck at Opinio Juris.

    @HeartlandLiberal:

Stuff and/or nonsense. Open your ears.

Also too, poor recording techniques detract from, but should not be allowed to destroy, our enjoyment of good current music. Case in point: Adele’s 21, which is nearly unlistenable in its overly compressed mp3 versions, is a good-sounding vinyl record that reveals her to be an artist who should be taken seriously.

Enemy at the Gates is also great.

Yes, the movie version sucked on so many levels. Was glad to remove it from my DVD collection. Still waiting for a decent film treatment of Stalingrad.

“City of Thieves” is a very good recent novel set during the siege of Leningrad.
