By ‘thinking positive’, you mean ‘I’m positively not going to watch another boring bowl game’, right?
Raven
Too bad there wasn’t a BCS Bowl last night.
Benjamin Franklin
Jeez.
Crypto-facist metaphor for ‘war’.

Oh, wait. . .

Does Tunch have on the appropriate WVU colors?

ACC-Big East BCS Bowl, aka Contractually-Obligated Bowl. And for this, neither Arkansas nor Boise State got an invite.
Comrade Coffin
West Virginia is not a city in Virginia.
Mr Stagger Lee
Damn that WVU band is small. Anyway the BCS bowls mostly has been good, the Stanford-Oklahoma State game a classic as well as Michigan State-Georgia.

Only watch one football team, college or pro. That would be the Oregon (Orygun to you easterners) Ducks being the Eugene boy that I am. On that note I heard on the BBC World Service the Ducks had become, for all intents and purposes the University of Nike. I’ve bitched about this for years but it must be pretty blatant for the Beeb to notice.
Raven
@Mr Stagger Lee: Yea, if the dawg coaches had any fucking balls it would have been. At least the Hokies took a shot at the goddamn endzone.
alhutch
@Allen: You only need to look 45 miles north to see what UO football would look like without Phil (and Chip).

Breaking: Santorum creeping out from the rear in last night’s Iowa Caucus.

Anyone else want to see Tunch in gold and blue. I actually think done right those are fairly slimming colors. Fortunately, John didn’t go to Clemson cuz those colors would not be good at all on a large size.imo.
djork
As a Clemson alumnus who hates that place with a burning passion, I sincerely hope you win big. I am actively pulling for WV.

@Allen: Eugene boy that I am, I have been to Corvallis once in my 61 years. And that was under protest.

I think bowl season is longer than the Stanley Cup playoffs, these days.

Well, John, I’m rooting for your ‘Eers since they are now a Big12 team. But I promise I will hate you with the heat of 10,000 supernovas if you ever beat my Sooners, again. So there.
Raven
@efgoldman: I do, I don’t like either team but I love football.

@Raven: Raven, my brother! Greetings from Raleigh!
Weird watching Clemson play now. Worked there eight years, was just immersed in all that orange shit, was made to wear plenty of it, but never felt a thing and don’t now.
When the lowly Wolfpack beat them – and I mean beat them like people used to beat their children – I think I may have been the only man out of the many thousands watching it who took it as a personal omen, the new employer whipping the shit out of the old one.
As for the Michigan State game, I had to work that day but very carefully arranged it so that none of my friends or family would call or text me with news of it so that I could watch it on the DVR when I got home. Went to all that trouble, watched it in true suspense, and the fucking recording cut off RIGHT at the end of regulation. So I had to check the goddamn Internet in the end anyway to find out how it ended.
I feel about as bad for Blair Walsh as I ever have for any athlete. I felt for sure he would shatter Butler’s records the same year Butler’s kid was making a name for himself in his own right.
At least Butler did well …
Raven
@Evolving Deep Southerner (tense changed for accuracy): UGH, I feel badly for him as well, they didn’t have to put him in that situation. How’s the new gig? I see the DQ there went to Illinois, they say he’s a wild man.
Raven
@Evolving Deep Southerner (tense changed for accuracy): Are your initials TC?
eta Never mind, I found you.

@Fluke bucket:
I’m quite pleased with the result myself.

@Fluke bucket:
Boy did that game SUCK! Michigan lolled around the field like a buncha marbles. Every time I looked they were just making it back to the line of scrimmage. The Sugar Bowl committee blew this big time.
It makes me appreciate this game and its exciting pace. Like others, I don’t have a dog in this fight either, I just like football.
Go Mountaineers!
Tpuchdown!
Linnaeus
I don’t have a dog in this fight, so I just want a good game.
I do miss the major bowls all being on New Year’s Day. It’s not the same anymore with them all spread out.
Fluke bucket
Holy shit EDS. If you didn’t see the three OT periods you missed it all. But MSU had a damn solid football team
Kola Noscopy
I support WVU, newest member of the BIG 12!
Thought geographically, I think that arrangement is ridionkulous.
Steeplejack
The Clemson coach seems like kind of a dick, the way he has been barking at his players. I thought that had gone out in favor of a more holistic managerial style.
Fluke bucket
The result suited me but damn that overturned TD call was some more bullshit
gbear
The Orange Bowl is OK, but there’s just no comparing it to the Apple Bowl.
Linnaeus
@Fluke bucket:
I didn’t see the game because I was in flight the whole time, but I saw the replay. U-M likely got a break on that one, but it still looked close to me. It happens.
Raven
@Fluke bucket: They do but we handed the game to them on a silver platter.
Linnaeus
Wow.
When do you see a goal line push become a score in the other direction?
Fluke bucket
Holy shit mountaineers!
Devon
Hells yeah! 99 yards!
passerby
Daaaammmmmn. WV just ripped out the ball from a Clemson goal line pile and took it to the house. Touchdown WV!
Dee Loralei
Hahaha that was brilliant takeaway for the ‘Eers TD!
worn
@djork: Right there with you bud! When traveling through upstate GA & SC with my Dad at Thanksgiving he inquired if I’d like to go drive around campus. Me (honestly perplexed): “Why would I want to do that?”
Although I will admit the slightest tinge of interest in whether Johnstone Hall is truly gone, as I’ve been led to believe…
Raven
@worn: Shoulda swung by Athens.

Australia is continuing to grind India into a fine powder. 649-4. Clarke has over 300 and Hussey is closing in on 150.
burnspbesq
Australia declared at 659-4. India will need 469 to force Australia to bat again. Epic performances by Clarke, Hussey, and Ponting.
dmbeaster
And I thought the Rose Bowl had a crazy first half. Has WVU scored a TD on every possession so far?
Evolving Deep Southerner (tense changed for accuracy)
Mr. Cole, I reckon y’all are loving this shit up there. That was a bullshit call just then, though. The man was down before he lost the ball. Felt sure that one would be made right upon review.
Evolving Deep Southerner (tense changed for accuracy)
@worn: Johnstone? It’s not gone, not all of it, anyway. The last vestiges of it still buttress what is perhaps the shittiest, most depressing University Union in America.
Carolina Dave
bwahahahahaha. almost 50 points at the half! I either wanted Clemson to win to salvage some respect for the ACC or get slobberknockered like NC State and South Carolina did to them. And the answer is #2!
More Please!
djork
@Evolving Deep Southerner (tense changed for accuracy):
Did they make you wear “urnge” overalls?
Mr Stagger Lee
You guys do realize that there will be an investigation by other Southern Schools regarding this outrage of a Southern School getting it’s @ss kicked by a Border State School. Clemson will have to turn in it’s man card for a few years.
Up in the FSM otherworld, John C. Calhoun and Pitchfork Ben Tillman are crying

My good god.
I will not forgive my ‘Eers if they somehow blow this. I will never forgive them. This is just amazing and I want them to keep the pedal on the gas, NOW.

@worn: They send me fundraising letters and I use the postage paid envelope to send them a copy of my student loan statement with my own fundraising letter. The only good things about that place are the campus radio station and Nick’s.

@burnspbesq: Clarke beat both of Sehwag’s triple-centuries before declaring, but stopped short of the Don’s 334. All sorts of things you can draw from that.
John O
@Evolving Deep Southerner (tense changed for accuracy):
Yeah, he was down. Still, blowouts are kind of fun to watch as are insane comebacks, so I’m taking the bright side of it all having no dog in the fight except my fondness for BJ and John’s teams, and my dislike of the ACC (and SEC, while I’m typing).

Keep up the momentum mountaineers! Who wants to bet Train is banned from Clemson’s campus? Talk about adding insult to injury. Mon dieu…..

Pardon me, that was a fumble both technically and on the playground.
ESPN had the shot.
It’s an ol’ fashioned ass whupping.

One talking head says plenty of time left after WVU’s 49th point and the other two giggle. Clemson is getting the immortal hell beat out of them
Evolving Deep Southerner (tense changed for accuracy)
@djork: If you graduated over the last half-dozen years, I’m certain I must know you if you were involved with the station or had any friends there. I was the adviser to WSBF up until the first of December when I jumped ship for NC State. My going-away party was at Nick’s.
The Dangerman
Just turned it on to see WV has hanged 63 on Clemson … with 9:00+ to go in the 3rd? WTF?

@Fluke bucket:
That’s the ESPN MNF team, now officially on vacation: Turico and Gruden did one of the Florida bowls earlier this week, and Jaws is with them tonight. Given the number of mismatches on NFL Mondays, this is familiar stuff.
Mr Stagger Lee
Wasn’t there calls for Dabo Sweeney’s head at the beginning of the season? I thought I would never see a Clemson team getting it’s ass kicked. At least not by West Virginia. Call the mercy rule.
Mark S.
I was about to tune in and watch the rest of the second half . . . WTF?
Fluke bucket
I knew they sounded familiar. Anybody is better than Ed Cunningham or Chris Spielman. This is a beat down of biblical proportion. An entire quarter left. West Virginia getting to the QB with a three man prevent rush. this is hard to watch but Clemson did just score on the JV team
Dynaboy
So, which BCS bowl game is a bigger joke? The Orange Bowl, where the defenses are non existent, or last night’s Sugar Bowl, where the teams were doing their best Three Stooges impressions?
Joe Lisboa
Hahaha. I’m one of like three in my Bowl pool who actually picked WV and since I picked them to win by double-digits, I’m feeling pretty damn vindicated.
Congrats, Cole. And thanks, WV.
PaulW
A Big East school is stomping the sh-t out of an ACC school. It may not be akin to stomping a PAC or SEC school, but damn it’s sweet. WE’RE NUMBER 5 AMONG CONFERENCES! SUCK IT, ACC.

70. Fucking. Points.
The Snarxist Formerly Known As Kryptik
@Dynaboy:
Now that’s not fair. Defense is a big reason WVU scored 70 like they did.

Catching up, and I think you blew it on the ABL/Greenwald thing. Greenwald was beyond “dickish.”
Of course, he is a dick…but that is not the point. The point is that it was a very offensive attack from an unsubstianted ego lashing out to protect that ego.
I think you need to step back, realize that you actually blew all things regarding this out of proportion, swallow your pride and really apologize to ABL.
I found your last explanation lacking. Step up or you will lose me, a constant reader for the last two years. I am sure that is not an immediate loss, looking at all the ads on your page. But, one drip at a time is dangerous.

This game was nothing like “boring” no matter who you normally root for! This was a great football team with an innovative offensive coach tearing a good football team’s head off.
How about the time Tavis was tackled, but rolled over the linebacker w/o touching the ground, jumped up and kept on running! Next best play to the 99-yard defensive touchdown!
I was glad to see totally professional officiating from Big Ten officiating crew! This is not always a given when teams from up north go down south to play…
We don’t have cable (living in rural W Va) and so went to a somewhat grubby sports bar in town, which was great. People sang the fight song after every touchdown. We were rooting for 100 points at halftime.
There was talk of organizing a caravan of P U Trucks with WV flags to drive around Clemson as soon as we could get there, but most had to go to work today.
What a great day to be a WVU fan!

@The Snarxist Formerly Known As Kryptik:
I think 3 defensive touchdowns, for one. And getting the ball back several times after 3-and-out defense. Good field position several times.
And competent kicking coverage, for a big change!

@Raven: Way late to a dead thread, but either way closest we got to Athens (en route from ‘Spartanapolis’) were the Guidestones outside of Elberton. Not that I don’t have some pretty good memories of Athens in the 80’s…!
