Twitter and Noot Gingrich.
Made for each other. Because, yes indeed, Noot is a twit.
Mark S.
I was thinking about hiring a historian. What’s the going rate on them?

Fact! Every LIBERAL HATES drinking POISON. SAUL ALINKSY told LIBERALS to NOT DRINK POISON!!!
Ergo…

@Villago Delenda Est: Didn’t Newt hire people to follow him on Twitter at some point? I wonder if that was one of his ideas.

Could I promote some other brand-new Gingrich parody material:

This guy’s pretty good. Some of my favorites:
Replace required shoe removal at airports with Mark Wahlberg.
Move everything 50 feet north once per year to cancel out global warming.
Give poor children Etch A Sketches and say they’re iPads.

I can’t claim to be more than a history major, but I’ll work for cheap. Cheaper than you’d pay for Noot’s expert

Sorry, I don’t Tweet. I don’t read Twitter nor follow anyone. I have a full and complete life and I prefer BS on blogs to twitter.
You John….time to get a better server. This one is running pretty slow.
Cap'n Swag
Server is running very slooooow.
I’m surprised no one has discussed Boston Bruins goalie and Glenn Beck superfan Tim Thomas being the only Bruin to snub the White House because gubmint is too large.
Ass. Hat.
jacy
I have a freaking monster of a head cold. I’m vacillating between hoping I feel better so I can get some work done and hoping that it unexpectedly kills me before the next Republican debate.
joeyess
When was the last time someone ventured down to the boiler room of this blog to check on the hamsters? This thing loads slower than a hippie band’s equipment truck.
Being in many hippie bands, I know about hippie bands and their load out time.
Gust Avrakotos
Put Not Republican Coles favorite on that list, Salon. The place where he and other firebaggers jerk off daily to Greenwald porn.

@kindness:
I totally understand where you’re coming from, but last night I got to talk with both Lawrence Block and Joe Hill (authors) on Twitter. (Explaining that to my S/O by saying it was like he got to talk to both Omar Vizquel and Jim Thome.) It was the high point in a shitty day.

Yeah, and Obama had nothing, absolutely nothing, but good things to say about Thomas.
Barack Obama = class act. Tim Thomas = not so much.

Is the site loading reallllly slow for anyone else?

slate is the mcmegan of websites. so very contrarian. its even populated by her dinner and a mugging partner.

@Villago Delenda Est: I’ve been wading into the Boston sports radio cesspool these last few weeks cuz of the Pats and today I got the closest dose to Wingnut I’ve had in some time – callers into WEEI defending Thomas cuz that “OBAMER” is worthless and had nothing to do with the raid to take out OBL and is wrecking this country with all his liberal spending and AAAAGGG! Had to turn it off. I just want to slap these people – figuratively and literally. How could you be so stupid?! And yet, he were are, pretending Republicans are “serious” and have “gravitas”.
Like we’re stuck in a puppet show.
Villago Delenda Est
@Mark S.:
It is for me, off and on. I tried to post a suggestion that someone shake the cage of the server hamster and wake him up, but it got lost in one of the molasses in January moments.

Mittens is nothing if not efficient. Three lies in a single sentence, FTW.

Also, too, I think Tunch ate the server and his rubustness has affected the WiFi speed.

@joeyess:
Is it just this site? Or other sites as well? Or sun spot eruptions?
Ed in NJ
Don’t give a fuck about Tim Thomas, just like I’m sure Republicans didn’t give a fuck when Michael Jordan and Ozzie Guillen, much higher profile champions, refused to go when GWB was president. But today’s media/Republicans try to frame everything as “ZOMG, look who hates Obama now!”

@Gust Avrakotos: Have you made a post where you don’t use the word “Cole”?

@pragmatism:
Back in the day, when Kinsley was in charge, Slate was a pretty good site. However, it’s just another part of the Kaplan Test Prep empire now, and suffers accordingly.

@Ed in NJ: Yeah, this. I can’t get too upset either out of fairness. Theo Epstein from the Red Sox refused to go to the WH in 2007 for political reasons.
I suppose in an objective world I would say anyone invited to the WH should go, regardless of whether they agree/disagree with the current occupant.
But I’m not feeling tolerant of Republicans any more…

@Villago Delenda Est:
Too bad it’s not called ‘twatter’.

One slow server is nothing. Try surfing the web with Comcast’s crappy DNS.

@Linda Featheringill: every other site I visit loads in a snap. So, I think we have a dead hamster in the basement.
Villago Delenda Est
@Linda Featheringill:
My standard test when things slow to a crawl is to fire up another tab with another site and see what happens.
BJ has been lethaaaaaaaaargic off and on all morning for me, but Wikipedia? My Yahoo mailbox? Pharyngula? Salon? All loading up nice and fast, with of course idiotic usual slowness of the damn ads at Salon.
jibeaux
I don’t know what it is, but I check twitter maybe once a month, find some interesting things, catch up a bit, enjoy it, and then have no urge whatsoever to look at it again for a month or more. I did find this via Nathan Fillion though, and thought it was funny.
Cap'n Swag
@Ed in NJ:
Did Jordan snub the White House? This surprises me since he was the guy that said “Republicans wear sneakers, too.” He was always so conscious of how he was being portrayed that I can’t imagine him not showing up for political reasons.
Now, I don’t particularly care that Thomas declined the invitation, I just think his reasoning is stupid. I think anyone who declines to meet the CiC is a bozo because it’s an incredible honor being bestowed upon you, something that only a handful get to experience.
Hell, had I won a championship from 2001-2008, I would’ve been there at the White House shaking Bush’s hand. He was still my president and it’s a completely non-political event. I just don’t understand why athletes think we care about their politics.

@joeyess: Great. Now we have a vengeful hamster spirit loose in the tubes.

Tim who? Oh that’s right, NHL. Is that a real Amurican sport now? Because I thought only Canadians watched that.

@Villago Delenda Est: My yahoo mailbox is refusing to fetch old emails for me, has been for a few days. I didn’t realize how much information I have stored in there that I really need to get to. I don’t print much. I thought it might be systemwide, but I probably need to spend the time to work it out.
Linda Featheringill
So we have a blog server that’s under the weather. Poor baby. Hope it gets to feeling better.
handsmile
Website loading slowing, edit function still MIA, and there was that weird occurrence yesterday when all the posts/comments were block-quoted for a while.
I fear this site is being scouted by the hackers collective, Anonymous. A DDoS attack may be imminent.

I’m thinking Tunch ate the hamster and Cole is making him power the blog. Therefore slooowww.

According to expert analyst Gregg Easterbrook (no, I’m not linking him), Bill Belichick might have fooled the Ravens into rushing their kicker on that missed field goal.
Easterbrook is a moron, but the strategy is believable. And pretty boneheaded on Baltimore’s part, all the same.

@geg6: You know what line is coming, don’t you. Delicious on top of Mitt’s disclosure.

Here’s an interesting story: A freshman Republican congressman in VA met with Warren Buffet after corresponding with him, and afterward renounced the Norquist anti-tax pledge.

Juanita Jean’s had this posted, from the WaPo Memory Hole: Newt Gingrich had to borrow money from Bob Dole to pay his $300,000 penalty the House levied for ethics violations. The loan was supposed to be paid off in 2005. Wonder if that happened.
Don’t expect our cowed media to ask but … someone should.

That’s Sullivan on the SOTU. What does that mean – he thinks it’s going to be boring?
Cap'n Swag
@barath:
There probably won’t be enough austerity for Sully, who can get bent.
Villago Delenda Est
OK, now I’m getting a “Database Error” message when trying to reload the current thread.
Also, the damn hamster is eating some of my comments for sustenance, it seems. Someone put the fear of Tunch in the little rodent already.

I no longer subscribe to our local paper because they pissed me off one too many times but I did read part of the headline story about the SC primary while standing in line at the grocery store. And I cannot get this quote out of my head:
:::SIGH::: Anyone else think the solution to America’s problems is more meanness?
Tonal Crow
BTW, I still can’t haz edit button and the site is still slow, but it’s faster than yesterday.
barath
@Cap’n Swag:
I was figuring there’s not “tax reform” plan, so he was unhappy. Or maybe he and others have gotten used to the ridiculousness of the GOP debates and want that sort of entertainment.
I generally can’t bear to watch SOTUs, so that’s why I was wondering. Mainly because I can’t bear to see how far away from actual solutions public discourse has gotten, so an energy plan that sounds like it’s mostly oil and natural gas plus energy efficiency is about as far left as is acceptable. When that’s a big fail on so many levels (including: not enough natural gas to meet the claims, pollution/climate impact of fracking, peak oil limiting global production, that alternatives don’t provide liquid fuels for transport, etc). I don’t blame Obama for this—if he proposed what we actually need on energy (or health care or many other issues), the entire media would pound him day after day and never let him get his message through.
Gin & Tonic
@Cap’n Swag:
He’s only the Commander in Chief if you’re in the military, which Tim Thomas is not. I respect the office, and I would have gone to shake the hand of Bush or Obama if I were invited, but that’s because they’re my President – they are not my Commander in Chief. I wish this trope would disappear.
Tonal Crow
@barath:
I think Obama bears some blame for this state of affairs. Republicans will call him a soshulist (and Bobo and his clones will spew “both sides do it, so vote Republican” twaddle) no matter what he does, so he might as well do what’s right.
ruemara
I think these chocolate banana scones could use more sugar for straight up eatin’, but add some butter and it’s divine. A touch too much orange zest, but what are you gonna do?
otto
I already thought that LMNO was one letter, so I’m a bigger idea factory than Gingrich.
barath
@Tonal Crow:
That’s true, but not true about Dems. There are plenty of Dems that carefully watch which way the MSM wind is blowing and even when Obama is pushing good-but-centrist ideas they don’t back him up. If he were to push the “radical” stuff that’s actually required, they’d go hide in David Brooks’s attic until further notice.
Villago Delenda Est
@Gin & Tonic:
Seconded. CinC only applies to the military. Otherwise, it’s just plain old “Mr. President”.
We used to have a ton of CinCs all over the military until the deserting coward threw a little conniption that there could be only one. No other President, even the sainted Ronaldus Magnus, insisted on such a thing.

@Villago Delenda Est: If Obama wanted to, he could make Salon load faster, and since he hasn’t, it must all be a coordinated plan to aggravate lïberals and civil libertarians because he’s afraid their powerful message is spreading. That’s just, you know, q.e.d.

If you’re looking for fun Twitterers, George Takei is one of the best (yes, that George Takei). A recent sample:
Patton Oswalt and Frank Conniff are funny, also, too, but they’re professional comedians.

I love Newt’s ideas.
Let me qualify that. I love the fact that conservatives and Villagers point to Newt and say “he’s a man with ideas!” They never mention that the ideas are never “good ideas”, like electric light, computers, solar power, etc. they are always, without fail, BAD IDEAS.
PS: anyone want a cat?

Brendan, you are a cat magnet! Your good heart must be the talk of the feline set. Got two strays of my own so no room – good luck.

I guess I was young and sharp and remember things from the decade before 9/11 but I’m always surprised when boomers don’t, you’d think it was a nice time in America to hear them talk – or a time when middle-class income wasn’t steadily declining

I remember when everything seemed pretty damn cool circa 1993. I think there was a window of time after the fall of communism/USSR, and the Rise of Newt and the Wingnuts. It didn’t last long.

we already covered that.
