Also, some good snark over at Juanita Jean’s. Seriously, more proof that Republicans have that merde touch.

I think the graphic is sketchy and offensive.
On other hand, if you interpret it in the spirit of TBogg’s suggestion that if Komen were really all that concerned about their resources being related in any way to any abortion services, then they should just deny health services to all women of reproductive age.
After all, if you keep them alive, they are more liable to seek an abortion.
So, if taken in that spirit, I will set my qualms aside.
Can I get some love for labeling the efforts to undercut and circumvent SGKF as “Sink the Pink”? With apologies to AC/DC.

I don’t like this – I don’t like the reference to hanging. Whether it’s meant to evoke lynching or suicide, I find it offensive.
Love the sentiment, hate the image.

I’ve had that pink ribbon thingy on my blog for a couple of years, and took it down today. The only person whose seen it is somebody called googlebot, but still.
Has anyone jumped the shark yet with Ayatollah Komen ?

A little Komedy Relief in the midst of the Komen Kontroversy:
‘Atlas Shrugged Part 2’ to start production in April
__
“Atlas Shrugged Part 2,” the second film in a proposed trilogy adapting Ayn Rand’s 1957 capitalist epic, is scheduled to start principal photography in April in Los Angeles and Colorado, with an eye toward an October 2012 theatrical release, producers revealed Thursday.
__
Businessman and Rand acolyte John Aglialoro, who financed the production and distribution of the first “Atlas Shrugged” film for $20 million, and producer Harmon Kaslow announced that they have raised the necessary financing for the sequel. They declined to reveal the final budget, but in an earlier interview, Kaslow said they were aiming for a production budget in the $10 million-to-$15 million range….
__
The first “Atlas Shrugged” movie rode a wave of conservative anticipation into theaters in 2011. After failing to impress mainstream film critics, however, it took in only $4.6 million at the box office.
I will agree with you to point out I meant that first sentence in my first comment.
My snark is bitter and double edged today.
What a depressing sight, but not so unexpected. Cowardice, corruption and dishonesty among the pillars of the community. And blundering incompetence at being cowardly, corrupt and dishonest. What is so new? But they should really leave that stuff to the pros, and we have plenty of pros around this country. They occupy the national political news every day.
So Rand was born on Groundhog Day? I guess this means that we are in for at least 6 more weeks of Objectivist BS from Ron Paul.

A coat hanger would have been better. The noose implies we found out they were partnering with the KKK or something. This azure person can’t do a coat hanger?
@boss bitch:
I don’t like a coat hanger either. It is off the topic of cancer.
Hey that’s close to tropic of cancer.

I agree with a few of my fellow commenters here that the noose does nothing to inform, educate or inspire. The coat hanger would be worse. It’s just my opinion.
As meme creation, it lacks a key element – portability. Many people who are outraged at Komen and the Right’s war on women would be reluctant to pass that around.
State-level assaults on women’s reproductive health have somehow failed to inspire much media coverage or broad-based understanding. Komen, and this horrible decision, has done more to shine a light on those realities than over 100 anti-woman provisions introduced in state legislatures in the year since the 2010 abomination.
Let’s not waste our time at the microphone. Again, it’s just my opinion.
Thank you all for the comments on my pic, both postive and negative. I just want to make it very clear that the noose was NOT meant to be any kind of reference to lynching. I picked it because it forms a loop, just like the loop of the pink ribbon. Why a noose? It’s a symbol of death, and I believe what the Susan G. Komen Foundation did could end up killing people. No KKK reference intended. I meant it to be offensive, but only to those who support what Komen did.
I didn’t use a coat hangar hook as it just didn’t occur to me to do that. Besides, someone else I know made a pink ribbon coat hanger image, so there is one out there somewhere.
It’s been very interesting for me to read other people’s opinions and to see how else this image was interpreted. It’s definitely been a learning experience!
It doesn’t bother me, as it was clear what you meant, and obviously ABL thought so too, or wouldn’t have posted it. :-)

Dammit, I was thinking of the same image earlier today, but did not think it would fly because of the negative connotation with the KKK. But I do know what is intended here. Congrats.

KKK lynchings were murders resulting from prejudice-fueled hatred intended to intimidate a racial minority into its traditional submissive role. Seems to me the right wing’s assault on Planned Parenthood similarly results from prejudice-fueled hatred and is intended to intimidate a gender into its traditional submissive role, and although it doesn’t kill as directly, it’s likely to result in even more senseless deaths than the KKK caused. So the use of the noose strikes me as apropos. Yeah, it’s tasteless and generates controversy and creates associations that the perfectly coiffed and Botoxed Nancy Brinker would prefer not to contemplate, but fuck her. Pursuing policies that kill through prejudice necessarily involve mussing your hair.

hey y’all — check this out.
I heard this woman on NPR today — she also wrote a book called Pink Ribbon Blues. Apparently she was on to Komen long before this shit went down.
