Every single House Republican votes against the Peters Amendment to insert factual findings about how the Bush Tax Cuts added over $2 trillion to the deficit.
Washington, D.C. – Today every single House Republican voted against an amendment by U.S. Rep. Gary Peters to insert factual findings about the Bush Tax Cuts into a Republican budget bill (H.R. 3582). The Peters Amendment was defeated by a vote of 174 to 244 with every Republican voting no.
[….](3) The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 have added over $2 trillion to budget deficits from 2002-2011.
But hey, they’re the daddy party of fiscal responsibility. And, if not, both sides do it, if the Republicans are cut-cut-cut with taxes, the Democrats are spend-spend-spend. Fred Hiatt told me so.
handy
but i thought we discovered circa november 2006 that Bush was a super secret tax’n’spend librul all along and that real conservatives like the class of 2010 were all about fiscal responsibility.
Now I’m confused. Oh well, time to go to the bat phone and raise the signal for David Brooks to straighten it all out.

The CBO are a bunch of Communists. You can’t trust their “numbers.” Everybody knows this.

Why don’t I ever get any of these sexy ads everybody’s talking about? Instead, I get ads for Goldline and Rick Santorum.
Well, Google does think I’m a 65-year-old guy living in an RV in Tampa.

Don’t you dare suggest that the GOP isn’t the party of fiscal responsibility. They’re trying to ban the use of welfare money at the titty bars for corn’s sake! Once the strapping young bucks are no longer able to drive their Cadillacs to Sultan’s Harem to deposit taxpayer money into the g-strings of single mother teenage sluts perhaps they’ll discover their inner entrepreneurial selves and go out and create jobs instead of being moochers and looters. Then, and only then, will the Bobos and Chunky Bobos of the world learn to respect African-Americans, for throwing off the chains of government dependency, and turn their focus to America’s Great Question of the Moment – how do we get rid of all of these fornicating Messicans?

Hellllo. That would be a freedom dividend, and hardly a deficit. All better now.

Bruce Bartlett quoting Edward Lazear, chairman of the CEA in President GW Bush’s second term. The article, from June of last year, cites a number of conservative economists (and the Heritage Foundation), all of whom refute the GOP’s assertion that tax cuts pay for themselves.

I look pretty young but I’m just back-dated. Yeah.
The Spy Who Loved Me
Considering that Obama wants to retain the vast majority of the Bush tax cuts, plus add the icing on top of the payroll tax cuts, how many more trillion will be added to the deficit?
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@eemom: at least they’ll get their budget-laundering done. A reach too far…?
Wasn’t there an official Kremlin historian under Stalin whose job was to rewrite history so that the Russians invented baseball and discovered fire, or something along those lines?

I wish I was cool like you. Usually balding cures, weight loss gimmicks, and loans for low credit scores here.
And investment scams.
Maybe investment scams and low credit scores go to same market segment.
But tonight, kids books and fine arts ads. Weird.
Edit: what goofball algorithm decided I like ballet? Anyone know? I kind of like ballet, sort of like I kind of like attending your odd parochial US football game once a year or so. Beats staying home and washing my hair, except google was telling me for awhile that I had none.

@The Spy Who Loved Me: Actually, as you probably know, Obama doesn’t wish to keep the Bush cuts for the rich, but accepted a short extension of them as a trade off. In addition, temporarily suspending the payroll tax pumps money into the economy via the people who are most likely to spend extra cash *and* every dollar that the SS trust fund is spent down actually *decreases* the national debt.

I am hesitant to even type the word again, but awhile ago I read a story about the Gates Foundation and its search for a cheap and hygienic toilet for the third world. I had toilet ads for a week, you would not believe all of the different varieties of toilets there are.
Now I read mostly about cheerleaders.

Bush tax cuts $2 trillion
Iraq clusterfuck $2-3 trillion
Economic losses caused by Repuke ideology of financial deregulation
$3-5 trillion
Corporate media tools who continue to portray Repukes as financially responsible = Priceless

@Hunter Gathers:
I believe you’ve summed up the appalling abyss that is the well of Rethuglican policy thought.
I’ve actually run into dipshits who don’t realize that when Obama stopped the lying about the cost of the wars of the deserting coward and put them on budget (not “off budget, which is a pathetic trick he picked up from the loathsome asswipe who sired him) that the deficit appeared to jump, which the dipshits claim is Obama spending like a poet on payday. No, jackasses, it’s the doing of your hero the desrting coward.

Trying to bring facts (or truth) and Republicans together is like trying to bring the opposite poles of powerful magnets together. It ain’t happening until you toss them in a smelter.
Then it doesn’t matter any more. ;p

@Odie Hugh Manatee: Opposite poles of magnet do attract each other.

My ads are for Crocs. How dispiriting is that?

@ MikeJ:
Actually, I think they pale when compared to whoever it is that insists Republicans are the party of national security. Aside from their only “win” being Granada and their guaranteeing fat paychecks for their contractor buddies, they’ve been useless.

Silly CBO! Don’t they know that history began in January 2009 when the Kenyanimposterislamofascistsoshulist took office? Who is this Bush person of whom you speak? Never heard of him, and neither have any of the Republican candidates.
Lurking Canadian
It is more likely that paying SS out of the trust fund has no effect on the national debt. Every billion dollars the trust fund cashes have to be paid for out of general revenue. Since the general budget is in deficit, the only way to do that is to issue a billion dollars of regular t-bills, so there’s no net effect on the total debt.
Or at least that is how I understand it. The wingnuts hurl so much chaff about the “fictional” trust fund that it is difficult to find the truth amid the lies.

@Villago Delenda Est:
Bingo. So if tomorrow Obama took all that spending back “off budget” just like W did, would said dipshits shower him with praise for magically lowering the deficit? Sure.

It’s bad enough that these right wing assholes make shit up on an hourly basis. It’s worse how they are so determined to keep the facts out of the public’s view.
