    I see the Romneytronic 3000 is currently running in third in Minnesota, and is only a hair’s breadth ahead of Newt in what little of Colorado has reported. If “Mr. Inevitable” comes in third in two out of tonight’s three contests, he won’t react well. And, as we all know, that inevitably leads to Romney sticking his foot in his mouth in hilarious fashion.

    TPM’s results database seems to have crashed or something. At dKos, they’ve got 11% of Minnesota reporting, 44/27/17/12 Frothy/Mad Dwarf/Robot/Overinflated Ego. In Colorado, with 7% in, Frothy is at 50%, with the ego in second and the robot in third.

    So far, anyway, not really a great night for the supposed Inevitable Nominee.

Romney is likely to win the nom, but by the time he gets the requisite number of delegates, everyone but maybe his mom is going to despise the slimy motherfucker. The Obama hate factor will likely guarantee him 45 percent of the vote in a GE, and I don’t trouble my mind much over worries of him winning the WH, cause it will just mean the Mayans were right and were always right. At least about this half baked republic. With all the hot spots in the world, that could go boom at any time, we are so very lucky to have a smart cool customer of a president presently. More than we deserve,imho.

    In Minnesota the RomneyBot (17.5%) is running third behind Paul (26.8%) and Santorum (43.6%) 21% reporting and not a lot of vote separation, so the standings could change but Man-With-Dog-on-Car had better start gathering some votes.     One rural precinct (well, okay, more rural) with a turnout of 6.04% gave Willard 8.54% of the vote. Santorum got 64.63%.

    Voters don’t register by party in Missouri. After you sign in they ask you to point to a list for the party ballot. It’s quite amusing for the poll workers (who are designated by party) when someone they know as a strong Democrat pulls a republican ballot in these situations.

    The crosstabs for the PPP poll in Missouri showed strong liberal support for Santorum. Heh.

    So far it’s just the shit kickers reporting, so while it might be 7% of districts, it’s like 1% of voters.

    Despite all the rumors to the contrary: there really aren’t a lot of Mormons in Colorado — they’re only about 2% of the CO population.

    On the other hand, CO is 23% Evangelical and 19% Catholic, which could help Santorum or Gingrich.

Missouri is notorious in general elections to report 99% responding except for St Louis, and they still can’t call the race, because St Louis will drop 50% of the votes out of 1% of the districts.     @Martin Yes, and maybe I was thinking of CA where there are lots of small urban precincts (if I weren’t voting by mail my voting location would be someone’s garage), but…the MN numbers still seem absurd. While there is large wilderness (I went to canoe in Boundary Waters/Quetico), rural MN is not nearly as sparsely populated as rural CA. I’m almost envisioning people ‘caucusing’ by themselves.

    I live in SW MO and went to the polls today mostly to oppose a “Missouri Minutemen” local initiative designed to screw with immigrants — of which we have few enough, but more that lived here in my [exceedingly white] childhood. I took a Dem ballot for the primary because I want to prove that Dems do exist in the Ozarks, but I flirted with the idea of voting GOP or Libertarian to muddy the waters. I’m not surprised that Santorum won the county, as talebangelicals have a stranglehold on the local culture.

    I see TPM is now predicting that Romney gets zero counties in MO. Wow.

    No. To be fair to the pollsters, there wasn’t that much pre-election polling.

    The CW was Santorum would win Missouri, but not by the percentage he did; Minnesota was a toss-up with Santorum ahead of Romney by 2% (within the MOE;) Romney was favored in Colorado.

    The rules they have set up are confusing as heck. The Denver Post says

    This early stage in the process of assigning the state’s delegates for the national convention is “nonbinding,” which also could be another word for “confusing.”

    More than 45,000 Republicans pre-registered to participate in tonight’s caucuses and another 22,000 went online to find their caucus location, said Chuck Poplstein, executive director of the Colorado Republican Committee. About 3,000 people have signed up to volunteer.

    That could put the party on track to exceed 2008, when about 70,000 people participated.

    At the meetings tonight, participants will take “straw polls” to find out which candidate is the preferred one. Results from those polls will be what the public hears later tonight.

    The expected winner should be former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, but former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum from Pennsylvania is also expected to have a good showing.

    But the process for assigning delegates doesn’t stop tonight.

    Attendees at the meetings also elect two precinct committee people and delegates to go to the county assembly in late March.

    The final consideration for the Colorado’s delegates will be made at the state convention on April 14.

    Beyond making matters look even worse for Romney, if CNN is correct that gives Paul a couple of delegates, encouraging him to continue and making it take that much more time and money for Romney to get the 50% delegate count.

    I know its non binding and all that, but per CNN Santorum has 55% of the vote in MO. This is the first Republican primary that any candidates had a majority of the votes. I know it’s a pipe dream but can you say ‘deadlocked convention’

    @Left Coast Tom: I’ll let you in on a little secret – unless you live up in the mountains, you don’t see a lot of snow here. The occasional blizzard, a couple of inches here and there. On the front range at least, our winters are incredibly mild. Don’t tell anyone. We kind of like our rep as badass snow bunnies.

    EDIT to include: I’m not a hard core cyclist by any means (see: Comrade Mary for that) and I can usually get in a couple of rides a week without a problem.
