Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Come on, man.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

The willow is too close to the house.

White supremacy is terrorism.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Hypocrites

Of course:

Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich), a leading GOP critic of the Obama administration’s loans to Solyndra, pressed the Energy Department in 2009 to back a Michigan solar firm that filed for bankruptcy this week.

In a Dec. 2009 letter to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Upton and the rest of the Michigan delegation pressed the department to issue loan guarantees for a slew of energy projects. Included on the list was United Solar Ovonic, which was seeking a taxpayer-backed loan guarantee to produce rooftop solar panels.

“We believe these applications are worthy of serious consideration by the Energy Department,” the Michigan lawmakers wrote in the letter.

Upton’s letter underscores the fact that Republicans, many of whom have pummeled the administration over the Solyndra controversy, pressed the Energy Department to back clean-energy projects in their home states.

Does this surprise anyone?

This is the same party that lets Newt Gingrich lecture on morality, religion and the family.

I don’t even know whether they’re hypocrites anymore. About 20 years ago, they were. This bunch today, I’m really not sure they even understand the concept that your words should have anything to do with your actions.

Only in that it didn’t emerge as part of a broader ethics investigation triggered by finding a dead male prostitute in a rubber wetsuit chained to Upton’s bed, with the Honorable Representative slumped across the body with heroin in his system and dressed in a French maid’s outfit. But I’ve become relatively desensitized to Republican scandals.

I don’t think the Solyndra thing is going to work out as the GOP intended. Solyndra is likely to actually prove the case that the loan guarantees were reasonably sound, but it was ultimately a failed effort because the Chinese were dumping solar panels on the market well below cost. We’re suing them over this, because it’s not just Solyndra but every single solar panel manufacturer in the US going out of business. And our case against the Chinese is all the stronger because even with US government backing, they couldn’t compete with a Chinese subsidized industry.

The loan guarantee program isn’t even an Obama idea. The program, and Solyndra’s original application for that matter, dates back to the Bush Administration.

Even though there’s no substance to the Solyndra “scandal,” I’m still quite surprised the Republicans haven’t managed to make a bigger production out of it. There was no substance to Whitewater, either. Have they lost some of their noise-making mojo?

Remember the business a week or two ago when wingers were calling Elizabeth Warren a hypocrite because she favored programs for poor people, even though she’s wealthy? The main reaction in the left-blogosphere was “that word doesn’t mean what you think it means,” but there’s another message: wingers just don’t think hypocrisy, as normally defined, is a bad thing. Unless Kain eats an abandoned pet, Cole will never take him down. Over the long haul, is it better to tolerate a wide range of front page posts, or to try to steer the thing? I would probably come down on tolerating the posts, no matter how much Kain irritates me. And just for the record, I was bashing Kain before it was cool, so I have no love for the guy. @Soonergrunt: dude, its an ISLAMIC Spring.

that the current government led by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has, while being an Islamic party, repeatedly upheld the secular state.

no they dont. every two years the AKP tries to get shariah back into the constitution.
    eventually they will succeed.

that scares the piss out of you doesnt it? because an ISLAMIC Spring will unite all the muslims, sunni and shi’ia and deobandi and barelvi, Twelvers and Ninthers, against a common enemy…..AmerIsrael.

Santorum backer Foster Friess just said this on @MSNBC: In his day, Girls used aspirin for birth control – they put it btwn their knees

The GOP is putting on a 24×7 clown show. I may have to stop entertaining you bunch of losers and go watch tv.
