’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Cause the last one’s filling up (watch Cole pop up within the next 20 minutes). Via Dave Weigel, “the ultimate Jack Tapper post” reports that “President Obama’s re-election campaign even has an official soundtrack.”

I thought they were going with “Let’s Stay Together.”

In the lined article they mention, “Darius Rucker is still around!” Since we were talking about the dBs lastnight (ok, I was, but there were a few others that lurve them) didja know Peter Holsapple plays/has played/will play/ will have played with him?

Glad Duck Dunn, Steve Cropper, and the rest of the MGs getting some residuals on the playlist.

What is it with Republican candidates and the failure to secure permission to use songs before blaring them at their rallies?

@Villago Delenda Est: They know that no self-respecting artist will give them permission, so they figure it’s better to not ask and get told to stop than to be shut down first.

I don’t know where the hell these people have been. Darius Rucker has been working out of Nashville for at least a couple of years. And the Hootie reunion keeps going the way of the Sasquatch, but it may yet happen.

@The prophet Nostradumbass: Any playlist that includes “Roll with the Changes” by REO Speedwagon, either sincerely or ironically, is a big load of fail. There are forces in the world with which one should not fuck about and things that one should just let rest.

I’m such a neo that I’m not sure if this will get me an “Oh, hey I’d forgotten that!” or banned, but in cheerful fuckit-ness, and because the Next commercial holiday* is already in the stores, I mention a song from ’08: “There’s no one as Irish as Barack Obama.”

BJ seems to hate my links, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EADUQWKoVek might get you to one version. The one I remember had music behind it, but the lyrics are super clear on this version.

*I hope they haven’t invented another one lately.

It’s sad to see the list include any U2 and no Woody Guthrie. That said, I guarantee it’s still light-years ahead of any honest Republican sountrack (i.e., one that represents their values and, if they have any, ideas).

Well at least the Republicans have Ted Nugent and Hank Williams Jr. – I wonder if anyone is playing the Nuge on the Michigan campaign trail?

  29. 29.

    Amir Khalid

    February 26, 2012 at 8:43 am

    @lige:
Ted Nugent doesn’t seem like the Teabaggers’ kind of thing, music-wise. So I don’t know if his stuff is what Holy Shit Santorum would play to attract the crowds. A bit too wild, y’know?

On the other hand, I’ve been listening to the songs off Wrecking Ball on the Springsteen outfit’s song-of-the-day streaming. So far, you could put pretty much any of those songs on the Obama playlist.

I was watching BBC’s Poor in America series today – http://news.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/front_page/newsid_9695000/9695217.stm

Of course, all of these problems can be solved by repealing Dodd-Frank, banning contraception and mandating trans-vaginal ultrasound.

One of the stories in the BBC Panorama program Poor in America is about a http://www.ramusa.org/ expedition in Tennessee. As I saw the story of a person whose herniated abdomen was about to get gangrene and couldn’t affort to get an operation, I couldn’t help but think how these people incredibly always vote against their own interests.

Tapper kinda skipped over ALL the bands that dissed Sarah.
Bon Jovi, Survivor, Heart, Foo Fighters anmd the unkindest cut of all, Van Halen. Track Van Palin was NAMED after the band.
In Game Change i wonder if they show the scene of a tearful Sarah refusing to read the headlines because she feared that yet another 80s hair band would shut her down.

Pffffft….like any of you complaining about the list can come up with one where one group or another of Obama’s supporters wouldn’t also call it a fail.

I’m being serious. I’ve seen the songs that some of you like.
