I’m a little bit surprised about the wingnut freak-out against Sandra Fluke. As a generally uptight person, I’m hesitant to go here, but it seems so obvious: do Republicans really want to campaign against sex-crazed co-eds? If you outlaw sex-crazed co-eds…

I wonder how many male college Republicans have, do, or wish to engage in sex with “sex-crazed” co-eds on their campus?
Of that group, how many want to marry said “sex-crazed” co-ed and/or father children with said “sex-crazed” co-ed?
I’m guessing many want to get laid, few want to wait to get married and most don’t want to be someone’s baby-daddy.
Amazing how the crazies have full control over the Republican Party, to the detriment of the Party rank-and-file.
I’m sure there are a few sex-crazed women attending colleges. But the idea that there is an overflowing abundance of them is merely someone’s wet dream.
‘Want’? Yes. ‘Have been avoiding because it’s electoral poison?’ Also yes. This is Obama’s ultimate political martial arts move, driving his opponents so mad with hate that they do something stupid. And then something stupider. And then something stupider than that…
You have to remember, Doug, that they aren’t reaching for the under-25 set. Hell, they’re not even reaching for the under-30 set. But this plays well with their last constituency, older white people, and particularly older white men. The slut shaming goes to the whole “society is on the verge of collapse due to the libertine morals of the younger generation/minorities/women voting/etc, zomg!” thing that culture warriors thrive on. Since they see themselves as the last bastion of all that’s decent, this kind of thing will play well. Bonus points because it allows them to moralize about the younger generations without having to deal with the fact that their granddaughters are part of that generation. They are protecting their precious, innocent little girls from sluts and whores like that, after all.
I’d also note that any young people who are voting republican at this point are people who were ALWAYS going to vote republican.
Well, if any of them resemble a chunky Reese Witherspoon, their, umm, spoons will wither …
It seems that it’s all sex all the time with republicans these days. Is this how they get their jollies?
If the Republicans want to take a stand that basically alienates every woman who ever had sex outside of marriage, I’m good with that.
OT: Someone may need to check on Cole
I’m a little bit surprised about the wingnut freak-out against Sandra Fluke.
I’m not. It’s what they do. Someone spoke out in public against their craziness, and this is what follows. It’s worse when the speaker is a woman or nonwhite, of course.
So . . . are you saying that slut-shaming is merely part of a generational war?
Just to get clear about this.
First they came for the nymphomaniacs in my dorm, and I did nothing….
Short Bus Bully
I fully support getting more “sex crazed coeds” into the news. This will be right up there with REEFER MADNESS! if the GOP continues down this alley.
Aaaaaand — Mitt supports the Blunt bill.
Shorter Mitt: “I was for roundheeled sluts before I was against them.”
@Linda Featheringill: Yea, by all the square, tight ass motherfuckers in my generation that still can’t get over the fact that we had fun.
Women are wicked when you’re unwanted.
Betcha old white man dream of sexy college girls.
These bastard’s forefathers were the reason “For Prevention of Disease Only” was printed on Army issue rubbers during WW2.
Well of course they do. Just like they campaign against The Gays, all while having secret gay sex with various guys they meet on Craigslist, like when CPAC is in town.
What they say and what they do are not the same thing. They’re happy to sleep with sex-crazed co-eds, those that aren’t secretly gay anyway, but they won’t admit it in public.
So, when will Glenn Greenwald write about this?: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/02/29/1069565/-Obama-Admin-Kicks-Indefinite-Military-Detention-to-the-Curb
Or maybe he will take to twitter to call the diarist a person who would make excuses for nun rape . . .
I’d go with the under-60 crowd. Folks born after 1952, were 18 by 1970 and probably were on the vanguard of getting their freak on outside of marriage.
Sure some of them are rabid right-wingers, who just hate Obama to be haters, but there’s probably a large chunk of them that remember screwing around in the 1970’s.
If their male, they may have daughters and realize the problems daddy’s little girl will have. If their women, they probably realize how bad this would be for most other women.
@Maude: Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.
@Violet: I’m cool- his skills and play have declined, and it is time for him to retire.
said the same thing in cole’s thread. the anti-slut platform is not a winner. because i’m a complete and total hypocrite, i’m objectively pro-slut until my daughter becomes
of age a teenager a tween a pre-teenwait, let me think about this some more.
@Maude: Betcha old white man dream of sexy college girls.
They do indeed, or should I say, *we* do. (though I’m not all that old yet.) There are different responses to it, though – I’d say most commonly nostalgia and bitterness, and either is possible whatever the interaction you had with “co-eds” in your youth. It’s all about how healthy your attitude is today.
@Jager: pro kits
You are? In the past month these people have come out against birth control, college educations and the freaking Girl Scouts. Targeting an actual liberal woman who dared to contradict them in public was an easy call for them.
College Republican males will fulfill Rick Santorum’s greatest fear and resort to man-on-dog action?
So true. Why haven’t I made that a post title yet?
Marcellus Shale, Public Dick
take heart dug, when republicans do it wrong it sounds like this
the cartoon voices formerly known as the chipmunks singing “p” comtrol
The wingers probably all have the entire boxed set director’s cut edition of “Girls G0ne W1ld” in their libraries.
I repeat, anyone heard from JefferyW? Big storms in Illinois.
I thought that meant you weren’t supposed to give them away as balloons?
Is he going to retire? I didn’t see anything either way from that article. Maybe I didn’t read it carefully.
Davis X. Machina
Nookie is a positional good, one whose value is mostly (if not exclusively) a function of its ranking in desirability by others, and one that cannot be created, only redistributed, in opposition to material goods, which can be created with time and effort.
I don’t think we’d like to open the skulls of those old white men who want us all to think they are pure. The “dirty” thoughts and images would overwhelm Larry Flint.
@DougJarvus Green-Ellis: Irrational prejudice against the Doors? Just guessing.
@John Cole: i know he doesn’t have as much history as ward, but will you be upset if m. wallace goes in free agency? i know i would be. he can come to my donkeys and not catch many balls from timmy tebow if he wants.
Master Kan (to Cain)
@Davis X. Machina: if you’re positioned correctly, it’s good. but it can get uncomfortable.
These are the same people who rail against homosexuality like it is literally destroying the planet, and then come back from exotic vacations with “rentboys” or they were outed doing coke off a male hooker’s ass or something.
So the idea that these lunatics would campaign on a “Sex = Bad” platform in 2012…really doesn’t surprise me.
I think they’re in for a rude awakening if that’s the case.
No, haven’t heard and I don’t know where in Illinois he lives. They are having a nightmare of a time there.
There’s something to that. My father is of the tea party generation and has had long-time friends that turned to its madness. He claims that they’re angry because they’re the generation that saw the hippies, Vietnam, and especially the end of segregation in their formative period. They felt helpless in a world where the rules were yanked out from under them and bad people (you know, like blacks) were rewarded and praised. This anger has festered in them their entire life, and it’s finally being vented without control. The sexual revolution IS one of the ways the world left them behind forty years ago.
EDIT – Note that he has no sympathy for this hate, it’s only what he sees going on in people that he’s known since way back then. Trying to talk sense into them led him very quickly to the discovery that they’re not interested in sense. They’re just angry, and anything they say is the result of that anger, not the cause.
Ahhh! You got it! :-)
Dinner for the Iraq vets on C-SPAN II right now.
First they came
onfor the sex crazed coeds…..
@Maude: He’s north of where the big hit was but still. I emailed him and no reply yet.
I’m ok with it – I mean the Republicans alienating all the sex-positive people in America.
Speaking of sex-positive.. Savage U is almost here: http://www.mtv.com/videos/misc/743593/savage-u-trailer.jhtml
@Raven: Lack of power would be an easy answer.
Just so we’re clear, contraceptives are used by a wider variety of women than “sex-crazed coeds”, right? As is, a married woman, a virgin or an ‘irregular’ woman (sorry-don’t have the right medical terminology down) may need contraceptives alongside the “sex-crazed coeds.”
And the GOP is calling them all sluts. Brilliant politics.
@Maude: @Raven: The local newspaper coverage is here.
@scav: Yea and he lives in the boonies outside of Murphysboro.
Maybe try posting over on http://whats4dinnersolutions.com/ and see if they have heard.
If he’s anywhere in that part of the state, I doubt he has internet or power.
So these teaparty puritans were left out of the fun and games of the 60s and 70s? I don’t remember there being that many of our peers who held themselves aloof from it all.
Of course, they might have been there and I just didn’t even see them. Which is one reason they’re angry.
@Frankensteinbeck: I read a response to all this madness that is based on men losing control of women when birth control became available. When women didn’t have birth control, they needed men to help financially when they had children. When women started using birth control, that opened up huge opportunities for women to not marry or to not be straddled down with many children.
And while we’re on the topic of dirty, dirty sex being bad for Republicans, didja catch the latest polls on marriage equality in Cali?
@Raven: So he’s not high on the list of getting it fixed.
@Frankensteinbeck: And the last straw is that a black man is in the White House.
Mike in NC
Can GOP talk about enacting “Prohibition v2.0” be far behind? After all, their nominee will be a Mormon teetotaler, and it was such a huge success before!
@Mike in NC:
We’ve already got it, with drugs, especially marijuana. The same old beats, right down the line. People go right on using it, criminals make all the profits and law-enforcement runs amok.
@Raven: Back in the “Good Old Days” of the fifties my little home town dumped raw sewage in the river. My grade school pals and I canoed past one of the outlet pipes and we were surrounded by a sea of rubbers. No wonder my Mom was so adamant about not swimming in the river!
Pro Kits are still available for collectors,
Along with various assortments of rubbers-for the prevention of disease only!
A Humble Lurker
Hell, the streets are uneven when you’re down.
Marcellus Shale, Public Dick
to be fair, there is no prejudice against the doors that can be considered irrational. if you heard them for the first time today(i know its impossible with all the ceaseless boomer nostalgia) you would have to think they were a parody band along the lines of weird al yankovic.
@A Humble Lurker:
And this is another reason we need to invest in infrastructure.
@A Humble Lurker:
Well, I can certainly attest to the fact that sidewalks are lumpy and bumpy when you’re down!
But what are her countertops like? We have a right to know!
@Marcellus Shale, Public Dick:
I had no idea those even existed. Once you think about it it’s obvious, but I guess I’d never thought about it. Fascinating.
OT, but the White House Dinner Honoring Iraq War Veterans is on CSPAN right now.
Marcellus Shale, Public Dick
just having fun. but the doors do kinda suck, if all you have is the music to go by.
@Marcellus Shale, Public Dick: Product of their time. Not fair to hold that against them.
For a lot of them, that they were involved then proves how immoral it was, because they know what kind of people they are. That kind of reasoning is pretty common, especially where sex is concerned.
@danimal: That’s something I pointed out elsewhere. I’m hearing a lot of anger from women, and I think a lot of it has to do with the married, heterosexual, “good” women realizing that the GOP thinks their sluts. And that’s pissing off a lot of women who wouldn’t necessarily get involved in feminist issues.
@Marcellus Shale, Public Dick:
Oops Nevermind, looks like they only showed Obama’s speaking
Born in 52 myself – didn’t get laid until I was 21 – not from lack of trying but nerd is a powerful copulation prevention device. Yet I some how do not hold it against college age girls today or expect them to be any less interested in recreational entertainment of the physical variety than the boys.
@Linda Featheringill: Not exactly–just that it plays well with the old white conservative crowd that has checkbooks.
There’s also the younger conservative male set who get to pass judgement on the women who aren’t having sex with them, as well as the younger conservative female set who are primarily interested in slut shaming the young women who are having more fun than they are.
But yes, it’s primarily playing to older males.
@taylormattd: my guess is half past never.
@Frankensteinbeck: But most of them were involved in, or at least dreamed about, things that involved a pair of fur lined handcuffs, two goats, three cocker spaniels, and a cattle prod wielding little person in a gimp suit.
@djork: Well, hell. ONE OF YOU better speak the fuck up!
General Stuck (Bravo Nope Zero)
Next best thing to bombing third world peeps.
Consider who’s leading the Anti-Sex Brigade: whiny, sanctimonious little Ricky Sexfroth, the Altar Boy-Buggering Conspiracy, and Rush Fucking Limbaugh. In other words, some of the most repulsive specimens of rightwing maledom available. And they’re going to go to war against the purported “sex-crazed coeds?” Good fucking luck, losers.
Yep. You practically quoted him. They’re living in the world they were warned about growing up, where a black man can be your boss (and the president, EVERYBODY’S boss!) and gays serve openly in the military, and young women run around wearing skin-tight pants with bare midriffs, and those are the modest ones, not the rebels! And if you accuse someone of communism, nobody younger than you gives a flying fuck anymore! They’re completely freaking out.
@Omnes Omnibus: Christ, you make two wetsuits and a dildo sound positively vanilla.
@Marcellus Shale, Public Dick:
No, I think The Doors would fit right into the emoprog stuff with just a few adjustments.
I happen to think People Are Strange does a pretty good job of mixing music and words to create a mood. Light My Fire was raw sex in a way that was not common before.
The Moar You Know
I’m not sure how generational this is. I came of age in the eighties. I think it’s the same everywhere, every time. There are plenty of dumb motherfuckers, you all know ’em, who can’t get laid to save their lives. Sure as shit, you look at those strangely pathetic men and women now and they vast majority of those are now Republicans.
@Soonergrunt: The second wetsuit has always perplexed me.
Also too, they start this “war on sluts” as soon as I am single again? WTF?
Wow. Check this out at Lawyers, Guns and Money:
There’s much more at the link.
@Omnes Omnibus: Well, and I want EVERYBODY to know that I am ONLY GUESSING here, but when I was a surgical tech, I wore size 8 gloves on top (outside) of 8.5 gloves. Since my glove size was right about an 8, putting the smaller gloves on second made both pairs easier to get on and also made them fit very snugly which made for better tactile feedback. This was common practice amongst thos of us who had to put latex (gloves) on a lot.
Perhaps, and again, I’m ONLY GUESSING you fricking pervs, but that might have something to do with it.
Also too, it’s your misfortune to be newly single right as the economy is improving in an election year, and hating on the ghey isn’t working for them anymore.
The question this raises is how do we get them to do it a lot more. This is poison for the GOP and they just can’t stay away from it. How can we get them to double down, amp up and crank the slut shaming to 11? They’re completely out of control and all they need is a red cape waved in front of them to go galloping off a cliff at top speed.
Marcellus Shale, Public Dick
i have trouble imagining the doors fitting in with the metal side of emo, i could see them going more in a fleet foxes direction.
Stand aside and watch. Seriously, you think Prick Sanatorum and Rush Limpballs need a push?
@pragmatism: I graduated high school in 1977, so I was right in the middle of all that fun, pre-AIDS, and had at least my share of sex. What I’ve told my daughters, both now in college, is that no matter how casual you think it is, sex always means more than you think it does. That, and several conversations over the years about sex and relationships, has given them what I think is a more measured attitude about sex than I had at their age.
Also class of ’77. It used to be you could tell a lot about a person by how old they were in 1967. If you were 17 to 22 years old the Summer of Love probably hit you pretty hard one way or the other. I don’t think there’s been a comparable breakthrough event that defines a generation (or part of a generation) since.
They’re so completely out of control I was hoping Obama or someone would come out in support of contraception and make all their crania explode. Some of them have gone so nuts there’s no turning back.
I spent the whole summer of 1967 babbling incoherently and soiling myself.
@MaxxLange: President Reagan, is that you?
“If she were my daughter, I’d ….
If she were my daughter, I’d ….
If she were my daughter, I’d ….”
Frank Zappa’s 1967 take on “the back of the city-hall mind”.
Seriously, can you believe he’s been gone nearly 20 years?
a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q)
@Egg Berry: Or, for a funnier take, see Randall’s version.
@a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q): I assumed it was going to be the honey badger guy, but this was funny too.
Only sex-crazed co-eds will be outlaws?
@Shana: Excellent advice. Thanks. My wife and I spoke about it and she put me at ease as she already had a plan along the lines that you mentioned. Have a good night!
Given various articles I’ve read over the past few years, wingnut and fundie attitudes towards sex are something strange anyway. You know – wetsuits, wide stances, Senators wearing diapers, crystal meth and rentboys, all that good shit. So their freaking over the prospect of young women having non-procreational sex, and worse, having the audacity to actually enjoy it….is pretty standard.
People, people, people. You are all misunderstanding this. It’s not that sex is bad. It’s that free sex is bad. You have to be punished in one way or another: unwanted children, STDs, birth control prescriptions, bar fines, escort fees, loveless dead-end marriages, rape…
@Davis X. Machina:Nookie: “You sell it, and you still got it. You sell it again, and you still got it. Such a business!”
