Blah blah blah. Can’t sleep, and the dogs are in bed and Tunch is ignoring me.
Just chatted with ABL and she is watching the Vampire Diaries. Is that show worth my time?
Also too:
I can’t believe none of you made the, ummm, connection with this post title. Yeah, I know, Wire- Three Girl Rhumba, but seriously. You all are slipping.
Also, reading the comments to this post, I guess if bitches jump in my car they can expect a happy ending, amirite? Too soon? Too wrong?

a shout out to many of my fellow Otaku’s out there…. check out Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X). Strange yet sweet….

This is a great song, and I used to listen to it all the time, yet I never would have figured it out because until now I didn’t realize “vital” is part of the lyrics.
I am shamed.

JC, if you get a chance or have access to it, check out the BBC America series Spooks (aka MI-5). Well written political and social series this side of The Wire

@piratedan: Yup. A great taut series.

Good morning to all from deep in the heart of South Florida, where it’s my usual rising time to blog before going to work.
John was awakened by his pets on his bed; I was awakened by some animal crawling around under the roof of the house, scampering hither and yon. Not the same thing.
So I guess Prime Suspect with Maria Bello got axed. Damn, I liked that show.
Oh, and spring training games start today for the Detroit Tigers. “For lo, the winter is past…”
Yutsano
@piratedan: I’ll ask my bro if he’s reviewed it yet. We haven’t discussed much of the latest season from Japan. But then again we’re 200+ miles away now. Oh well. I make more money than him so it’s worth it.
piratedan
@Yutsano: check it out yourself over at MangaFox Yutsy… it’s got the scans that have been translated….. it’s a slow mover, but I find it to suit my inner romantic needs.

I have a court appearance in a city about an hour away from my house that I have to be at by 9:00 tomorrow. I should be sleeping, but of course I’m on the interwebs.
Dogs have become a major part of my life, and I always feel bad because I never get to spend enough time with them. Work tends to do that.
One weird side effect of dog ownership that I didn’t expect is when I’m away, I miss them terribly. And, when I’m home it doesn’t seem like we interact much. Yeah, they get their walk and food and snuggle on the couch when watching the tube. But, the rest of the time they’re just lounging about while my wife and I do our routine. Been thinking about agility training so we can spend some more time doing stuff together.
Rambling…blah blah blah
Yutsano
@piratedan: Sounds like Haibane Renmei, which takes some convincing to get through but the conclusion is definitely worth it.
freelancer
Fuck, I should have just gone to bed, but that last hour was fun.
Comrade Mary
Yes, I missed that. I feel so ashamed now.
But if you could go on a streak of Smiths titles last week, you are now challenged to try for at least that many posts pulling their titles from 90s bands fronted by women. There’s lots of great stuff to choose from.
gaz
@Comrade Mary: Do I get extra points for Recoil (several different front women in the 90’s)?
Karen
Vampire Diaries is cool because it’s as far from Twilight as you can get and it was written first. The show is better than the books and can get gory and angsty and multilayered. I highly recommend it.
gaz
@Karen: I think I read this stuff ages ago? Can that be right?
Edit: I found it, looks like at least one book was out in ’91
That’s probably what I’m thinking of. I’ll have to check out the show.

@Yutsano: well I appreciated the Moribito referral, so I thought I would try and reciprocate
Brutusettu
I think we got it, you don’t have to go on the rooftop, shout it out.
Anyway, you know what they say is true, I’m ready to go find some other mid 90’s pop rock on YT, my corniness is exposed and it’s no big surprise.

You’ll need several to keep the car from leaning left.

Anybody else notice that in all the articles about Breitbart, next to none (I have only seen a single one) have speculated on the cause of death? A 43-year old collapses and does walking home from a bar, his blog publishes a statement within hours that it was “natural causes”, and that’s that. I know toxicology will settle everything, but usually these types of things leads to TONS of rumors.
kdaug
@Politically Lost:
Shit, I’m the one who needs the agility training. They’re ballistic on their own.
Brutusettu
@Keith:
Wild speculation is just what the man would have wanted! Respect, respect out of spite is called for here.
In more serious news, Breitbart was as worried about the “truth” as much as that guy that called Buzz Aldrin a liar to his face is, being worried about the “truth” doesn’t make one immune to being a crank.
Linda Featheringill
@Brutusettu:
Whose truth?
Karen
@gaz:
You’re right. LJ Smith wrote them in the 90s. When they first brought VD to TV I thought it would suck. I was so pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
kdaug
@Linda Featheringill: You know, flat-earth, phrenology, vapors, geocentrism, ad nauseum.
Here there be Dragons.
Anne Laurie
@Keith: Our own Pseudonymous in NC found an ancient Usenet posting where Breitbart announced he’d been diagnosed with ADHD and was going to start “taking medication” for it. This sheds some light on Breitbart’s ensuing manic career — some people with ADHD choose to cope with the overwhelming flood of sensation we can’t mitigate by keeping our responses cranked up to eleven. (As a non-ADD friend once complained, “You all can carry on half-a-dozen conversations at once, but you can’t carry on one conversation at a time.”) Constructing elaborate scenarios where a world full of enemies are forever collaborating against Truth, Justice & the Amurkin Way was a way for Breitbart to turn his far-end-of-the-bell-curve biochemistry into a very prosperous career, but living on cortisol & andrenaline is hard on the vascular system. Also, the standard drug treatment for ADHD (methylphenidate) is basically a form of speed, and despite the fact that Nancy Reagan said so, sometimes Speed Kills, Kids.
My guess, at this point, is that Breitbart’s heart (or possibly a vessel in his brain) blew out from years of overexertion. If some of today’s rumors are true, he may have been self-medicating with either legal or illegal intoxicants as well, but just the combination of stimulus-seeking and prescription ADHD drugs could certainly give a 43-year-old the circulatory system of a 63-year-old…

Yeah, I got two naps tonight, no real sleep. Posting on BJ & a couple of other places to fill the quiet hours.
I am sick of discussing Dimbart. All people make the world a better place, some by being here other by leaving it. The sooner he disappears from this one the better it will be.
Chris
To the original post and video, the It Girl of the 90s, who dated into Suede AND Blur in those years, inspired some great songs and rumours of drug problems, left rock behind to marry a scientist and become an abstract painter.
Good for her.

I can’t believe I am going to say it but Vampire Diaries is total fun and not nearly as cheesy as I had expected. My best friend got obsessed and drug me along for the ride.
What is interesting is that the move the story along at a rather fast clip so you are never left hanging too long before a resolution which can be a problem for the more serialized show. And honestly it isn’t The Wire so set your expectations accordingly.
Tunch

John, I never would have pegged you as a fan of Wire, the British art-school punk band.

Just had to google translate Tunch’s posting:
Cole, I think you’d better watch your cat very closely!

@Tunch: I think Tunch has just declared Jihad on any person who watches ‘Vampire Diaries’. Or it could be Jihad on those who do not watch ‘Vampire Diaries’.
Maybe Samara or Amir can translate.

However Tunch is clear that he does not want jihad declared on his widdle tummytube wormies. He likes the extra bulk a belly full of wormies provides, the better to swing his weight around.

Damn. Forget it, forget it, forget it. I wrote a witty comment about that vital darn connection, but I didn’t post it because I was afraid it would sound too nerdy or vacuous. But guess what? Now I feel nerdy and vacuous.

Rosie is lovely. As you say, the poor thing needed a good home where she was not abused and/or left to fight for herself. She is now fine in a loving household.

I think the translation might be closer to:

@Spiffy McBang: Same here — didn’t know that word was “vital.”
And fuck “Three Girl Rhumba” — Wire may have written the song, but Elastica gave it that awesome Sweet/Slade/Quatro/Bolan early-70s punch. The whooshes when the drums and bass kick in are a massive jolt of serotonin for me. Whole album’s great, in fact. (Someday I’m going title a post “Too Much TV and Curry,” which no one will recognize.)

@Steve M.: Though regarding Wire, I do love me some “Map Ref. 41°N 93°W.”
