Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

This really is a full service blog.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Andrew Breitbart is still dead

by Soonergrunt|  March 4, 20129:55 pm| 99 Comments

This post is in: Grifters Gonna Grift, Media, Open Threads, Assholes, Both Sides Do It!, Good News For Conservatives

FacebookTweetEmail

That big thing he was claiming to have that was going to change everything?  The one kept going on about before he ragegasmed himself to death?

It seems to be a site redesign.

And not even a very good one.  All of the sites, Big Government, Big Hollywood, Big Peace, all redirect to Breitbart.com  It looks like the internet circa 1998 with a news aggravation aggregation feed.

So we have survived Breitbartocalypse II, The Reanimation.

Open Thread

UPDATE: H/T to commenter Dave that Breitbart’s site has hit the new redesign.  It looks they stole CSS from Daily Kos’ advertising background thingamjig and stole Talking Points Memo’s CSS for the foreground.  Still no video of Obama eating kittens at Harvard or whatever they were claiming to have.  And yes, their big blockbuster story is that Barack Obama went to see a play about Saul Alinski 14 years ago.

I shit you not.

I got into a debate on FB with some douche who was defending Rush Limbaugh’s ‘slut/prostitute’ comments by madly pointing the finger at a laundry list of right-wing bogeymen and women: Pelosi, Michael Moore, Olbermann, some liberal somewhere who said something mean about Palin. I am surprised he forgot to bring up some anonymous MoveOn member who compared Bush to Hitler.

But the cherry on the frosting on the cake was when he brought up Breitbart. I sure had fun reminding that drooling cretin of what Mr. B. said about Ted Kennedy when he shuffled off this mortal coil.

there is unintended comedy in the doug giles brietbart post. when you consider superconservadad of the year couldn’t have loved seeing his daughter walk a walk that was more method than acting, nearly as much as i did.

sure he praises breitbart, but the denial and outright bullshit of it all, makes a finer point in the sublime than any combination of words he might have strewn across the page.

Well, since this is the OT, I thought I’d post this Bloomberg Story about Indian democracy. Found it odd that 35% of the candidates running have various charges against them, but that could just be that it is a common tactic to use the court system against political adversaries. But the idea that someone can keep their office and run again while serving a sentence in prison seems unique.

@West of the Rockies (formerly Frank W.): OK. The promise was to release the tapes “within the next ten days” so that would be sometime late next week. The site redesign was a different thing. That was a “I’ve got something big happening this Sunday” and it turns out to be a site redesign. A lot of folks were confused. The Harvard Tapes were supposed to come out much later. The release of those were moved up. But I have no idea what those are. My guess is that Breitburt wired himself when he went to Ayers’ super bowl party (he won that invitation in a charity auction) and Ayers did another one of his “sure I wrote the biography and my wife plotted his career” jokes. Or they have Obama sitting on some student panel from his law school days talking in absolutist terms like students tend to do sometimes.

I was flipping channels on XM yesterday and I ran across David Webb’s show. Yeah, yeah, I didn’t know who he was either but he’s apparently a B-list conservative talk show host. Anyway, he was talking to some guy from Breitbart’s website and they’re sharing memories of the great man Andrew Breitbart and they took callers. And, I am feeling secretly guilty about this because I am making fun of these people in my own mind. So, Webb starting talking about the Black farmer reparations story that Andrew broke and Andrew had not gotten credit for this blockbuster story yadayadayada… he then starts in on Shirley Sherrod and in fact what I hadn’t put together until that point was that the Shirley Sherrod story which was the black farmer reparations. At this point, all my guilt was gone. Screw these people. BTW, the Breitbart is dead thread from Friday is one of the most entertaining threads I have ever read on BJ.

Um, I read “The Vetting” at this point and am sort of puzzled. Did anyone notice that Barack Obama was a liberal community organizer, got into politics and then spent the last three or four years as president of our country or something? He watched a play back in the 1990’s about Alinsky. In the 1990’s, I was attending a Catholic university. That’s why I’m a part of the open-secret LGBT-Atheist wing of Opus Dei right now.

And if you’re interested, I have this investment opportunity regarding gold and Ron Paul’s delegate count that will blow your mind. In other words, I’m not really sure what Breitbart was on about, but I saw the same cast of “associations” in 2008. And FWIW, it’s still dumb.

That’s right, a Commie reference, with a multi-step connections to the eebil, eeeeebil Mr. Terkel.

Gosh, I wonder if the follow-on parts will be equally riveting? While waiting, I might go back and read this one in the voice of Count Floyd of Monster Chiller Horror Theater.

This is an entirely appropriate final act for a pathetic creature. What a sad way to go out, and what a precautionary tale this guy’s final years provides for anyone who will take its lesson.

What kind of sad, low-rent fantasy world do you live in when you have to cast Studs Terkel as one of your enemies?

Obama really is a Rorshach test.

If this is the Big Scoop that Breitbart was hyping before his death, are we completely sure he didn’t actually die of embarrassment?

Not being willing to give page hits to andrewbreitbartisstilldead.com, I instead went to Tbogg to get the precis of the terrors inherent in this revelation and they are this: this one time, Obama participated in a panel discussion about Alinsky. Studs Terkel was there, too.

    The end.

So, not only was most of the content on his website stolen, but so is the design and the code. Not unexpected, but still sad.

John – please tell me that in addition to being a talentless clod Mr. Muir is also a big fat liar. Please don’t tell me you EVER thought that effluent that he excretes was funny. I think too highly of your common sense and intellect to imagine you saying nice things about him or directing people to his sewage other than to ridicule it.

I could believe Sully I can even sort of see the Leak Of Odoriferous Gentlemen but Chris F’ing Muir? SAY IT AINT SO!

@Mnemosyne: A monsignor was there. As was the clerk of the city of chicago.

I get Studs Terkel and Scoop Jackson confused, although I know they were very different people. This was going to be Breitburt angling into Beck’s conservative blackboard space.

Ducks, not being mammals, do not have tits. However, given the average right-winger’s grasp of biology, I wouldn’t put it past Tinsey to try to draw some. And fail.

@Brian S: well, he went to Columbia, which is a Great Books school. One of the required courses there (Contemporary Civilizations) would mandate that he read Marx. I know next to nothing about a Poly Sci degree, but I imagine reading Marx, Alinsky, et al., is pretty standard stuff at every real school.

I just checked the syllabus for this year’s CC class, and the Qu’ran is on there. Dun dun dun. That might not have been true in 1982 or so, however.

I had an exchange with Sarah Goldstein on Twitter yesterday:

    Sarah C. Goldstein ‏ @sarahcgoldstein
Breitbart.com is relaunching on Sunday. Huge social media platform. Come debate! #gop #teaparty #andrewbreitbart

    3 Mar kdpca ‏ @ShadowsMomCA
@sarahcgoldstein um debate requires two sides engage in Analysis of a question. Your site more like propaganda

    3 Mar Sarah C. Goldstein ‏ @sarahcgoldstein
@ShadowsMomCA intolerance of the left once again

    3 Mar kdpca ‏ @ShadowsMomCA
@sarahcgoldstein not intolerant, merely pointing out that debate, by definition requires opposing views. Will u invite progressive voices?

    Sarah C. Goldstein ‏ @sarahcgoldstein
@ShadowsMomCA I asked democrats to come join us. We would love to debate you.

So, the new Breitbart.com is open for business and they would love to debate with progressive democrats.

    :)

BTW, it’s hilarious to see all of the scolds in the comments section of the LA Times clutching their pearls because lefties are talking about Breitbart the same way that Breitbart talked about people like Ted Kennedy and Whitney Houston.

They really don’t have any concept of “hypocrisy,” do they?

@Chris Muir: some people have adequate substrate to become liberal. if you wanna know why you can read Chris Mooney.

@Soonergrunt: i have to admit i feared Big Science and Big Education were going to be part of the new site build. inshallah those abominations will never see the light of day.

@samara morgan: For that to work at all, they’d need people trained in, or at least versed in those fields. That’s why you’ll never see it.

@Soonergrunt: no, they just need anti-experts. Big Science would be an attempt to take Science back. 24/7 climate change denialism, the Discovery Institute and crap like Expelled.
Big Education would be an attempt to take academe back from the liberal indoctrination of college students.
Big Hollywood was a attempt to take pop culture back, Big Journalism to take the media back, and Big Government to take government back.
i got no clue about Big Peace cuz ive never read anything there.
    Peace through war maybe?
