I’m off to bed. Here is one of my all time favorite songs:
Here’s another, from someone who I consider the most under-appreciated musician of the last 30 years, Delbert McClinton:
He’s a genius, and his voice just makes the hairs on my arms stand on end- the falsetto “Just a losin’ my mind” at 2:36 makes me want to hold a lighter over my head. The Hammond B-3, my favorite all time instrument, is just the icing on the cake. So good. Just so damned good.

Lunch or nap? The question that constantly haunts me.

@asiangrrlMN: what we need is American innovation that allows you to do both…. where are the job creators to handle this niche in the marketplace?
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN:
BOTH!!
Actually I recommend fud. Preferably something with rice and chicken so you can nap with no tummy upsets.
asiangrrlMN
@piratedan: Exactly! If they were really producers, they would have solved my problem before I even knew it existed.
@Yutsano: Both, yes, but not at the same time. I don’t want to choke my chicken, er, choke on the chicken chili I’m about to eat.

I’m super way young, so I hold a different era of music to be sacrosanct.
One of my all time favorite songs is Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam, even though you can’t grok a word that is said without looking it up.
I was raised by my pop on classic rock though and one of the songs that I’ve been listening to more and more and I can’t hate a second of it is this hit by the Stones.

I was about to go to bed — it’s 2am where I live — when I heard my 4-year-old loudly and cheerfully singing Deck the Halls. All three verses.
Think I’m going to wait a little bit and make sure she’s gone back to sleep before going upstairs.

@freelancer: well based on our current political situation, the 1% are damn lucky that this song hasn’t been picked up as the OWS anthem…..

I’ll say that the first two verses damn near makes me wanna bust in to some corporate boardrooms and get medieval on some folks

We have a tiny little venue with a Hammond B3 that has an awesome funk band every Tuesday night. They play two sets. $2 cover.

@piratedan:
That’s a great song, and you can hear so much of more hit based compositions by Keith in the guitar style.
It was also used for great effect in Wes Anderson’s last film The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

So, I already understood that Virginia is Romney’s because no one else could get on the ballot. I did not know that even if Santorum wins Ohio outright, he won’t be able to get all the delegates because he did not file a full slate of delegates. What an odd way to run a campaign.

@Suffern ACE: IIRC, Paul got himself on the VA ballot. He’s not going to win, of course.

It’s 4:45 am and I can’t sleep. Why do beer steins have glass bottoms? I need to know. back in a minute…
ETA
Okay, here we go:
“The real reason that tankards had glass bottoms was likely so that you could judge the clarity of your beer before drinking it. Clarity is a favored trait among beer drinkers, and sometimes unfiltered beer can have an unclean or sour taste.”

I love the Nelson song. Here is two from Hank.

Oh wow that Delbert McClinton was amazing! Thanks for that, since I’m a massive Hammond B3 fan.

The Hammond B3 is my favorite, too.
Hows about these 2?

Someone introduced me to Delbert about 30 years ago. I’ve been a huge fan ever since. Had of the pleasure of seeing him live in Atlanta.

I’m crazy in love with Delbert McClinton. He lives in Nashville (at least he used to) and once I shared a shuttle bus at the Nashville airport with him. I was such a fan, and I just didn’t care if I sounded like an idiot. I told him what a huge fan I was and went on about how I thought this was going to be his big year, that he was so underappreciated and deserved every good thing coming his way. Oh man I was such a jerk. I think at one point he started backing slowly away from me :-) Stay away from the crazy lady on the airport shuttle! LOL.

Too much synchronicity- I woke up this morning with “Read Me My Rights” going through my head and find it on BJ when I check on the intertoobz!?! The version I’ve been hearing is Ann Peebles‘, though…
TaMara (BHF)
wow. Delbert McClinton is amazing. If John keeps introducing me to great new music I’m going to have to get a bigger ipod.
WayneL
The guy who really put Delbert in my consciousness was none other than the I-man, Don Imus, who is probably the biggest Delbert McClinton fan on the planet. Go figure.
DELBERT!

Holy Jesus, the groove on that Delbert McClinton song is fucking GORGEOUS.

Delbert has been putting on an amazing floating music festival for the past 18 years. You, too, can come along. I have been on 14 Sandy Beaches cruises, and they are the best!!! As is Delbert, of course. Check out http://www.delbert.com for info on the cruise. January 2013. Fort Lauderdale. 7 nights at sea with FABULOUS music. Thanks, John, for featuring Delbert.

And may I point out that Delbert’s band is truly fantastic!! And that Delbert has written many wonderful songs!! He is a national treasure who has never really received his due, but he did win a Best Contemporary Blues Album Grammy in 2001 for his CD “Nothing Personal”, as well as a Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal Grammy (with Bonnie Raitt) for “Good Man, Good Woman” in 1991.

I’ve been a fan of Delbert’s for decades and it’s always good to see a plug for him! We saw him in NYC at BB King’s a couple of months ago — the venue sucks, Delbert’s voice isn’t what it used to be (he’s in his 70s) but it was still a great show. Here’s a song that should make you get up and wiggle:

So — for all of you B3 fans, I’m SURE you’ve heard of Brian Auger & Oblivion Express, right, RIGHT??? Why Oblivion Express? Because he figured with the kind of music they were playing, they were on the fast track to oblivion. Not many people were doing jazz/rock fusion then. Also, BTW, Second Wind is one of the all time great albums.
So, if you haven’t heard of Brian (one of my all-time faves), try these…

Thanks for making my day Mr. Cole. Delbert has been a favorite since my college days in Austin in the 80’s.
Hope you like this, it was the first time I tried to record a song at a concert and it came out better than expected. Great old song, very nice solo on the B3, and also from Anson Funderburgh on guitar.
