This is a pretty good summary of the last month or so to commemorate International Women’s Day. When is International Men’s Day, you ask? Every day but March 8. Open thread.

    LOL!
Ohio State Senator Nina Turner has introduced legislation to protect men, “the greatest gender.”

I don’t think it’s quite as good as my idea of what to do if a man wants to take some V*agra – which is to stick a catheter-camera up his johnson until it shows him his ball-sack, with all of those potential babies swimming around in them, and asking if he’s prepared to pay for them to be raised and educated if they “get lucky” like he’s hoping to – but it’s pretty damn good!

Tears of the Wingnut (warning: RedState link):

I want to stress a few things at this point. I think nominating a man whose favorables in his party and outside it lie so far south of the Mendoza line is madness. No sane person thought John McCain would win in 2008 except for the brief interlude between Sarah Palin’s premature unveiling (screw you, Steve Schmidt) and Lehman Brothers. No sane person believes Mitt Romney will win the Presidency, but he at least has the comfort of absolute nuts believing in him who are not bound to him by genetic relation or marriage.
    __
I am not a huge fan of Newt Gingrich — for reasons so numerous it would take me days to enunciate them all — nor of Rick Santorum, though I admire the latter’s ardent devotion to the pro-life cause. Both are fellow papists, but both are frankly awful politicians and simply have no chance to even win the nomination.
    __
Ron Paul is a gibbering little Nazi.
    __
Having said all of this, it’s time to understand that we are wasting resources hating each other over four men who in a just world would not be allowed near turpentine unsupervised, let alone near the nomination of one of our two major political parties. We are wasting goodwill, we are wasting enthusiasm, and every time Mitt Romney opens his mouth about anything, really, far too large a portion of our party suddenly asks why we’re nominating Barack Obama for the presidency.

Can’t you just feel the enthusiasm?

Reminds me of when my wife* used to go so upset at the BET channel.

“Where is the WHITE Entertainment channel?”

I’d tell her, “Change the channel. Do you see all of the other channels other than BET? That is your White Entertainment Channel. You got about 500 of them.”

*Due to my intervention, the wife is a reformed Republican. Also, too, I converted another old girlfriend from a died-in-the-wool Bush Republican to a dirty fucking hippie liberal. In fact, when I met the ex-girlfriend, within minutes she professed her love for W. and asked if I was a “fucking liberal”. But I worked my liberal mojo on her and now she tears her old conservative friends new a-holes on the Facebook.

International Women’s Day — a day observed in many countries, but not the US, commemorating an event that took place…in the US.

(Maybe we’d better not mention anything about IWD. It might spur GOP state governments across the nation to double down on the War on Women.)

The well being of all children is interwoven in the situation of their mothers. And that affects all of us.

So it would behoove humans to tend to the care of females.

The well being of every woman everywhere is tied up with her ability to manage her own fertility. Women in general know this, as do the men who love them.

And that is one reason why so many people are fighting tooth and nail to preserve access to contraception.

That link is full of WIN.

In my observation the Republicans have always been better at motivating their base to get out and vote, insofar as they’ve needed motivation since 2008 to do something against that Black Man In The White House. This time around, the party was fairly well split before all the anti-contraception blathering reared its ugly head. (Publicly – I know it’s always been there in the background.)

Now, thanks primarily to the dynamic duo of Rick and Rush, they’ve managed to create yet another split, and this one much more basic – as in most women, even most Republican women, saying: “Fuck you. We’re not going back there.” They can’t take it back, it’s right out there in the open. And to add the cherry on top of the sundae, those women on the Dem side who have been disappointed every day by Obama? Or women who have been too apathetic to vote because “they’re all the same and both sides do it”? If they stay home on Election Day 2012 because St. Ralph isn’t available for a protest vote – or if they stay home because it’s just too much trouble to get out there and vote – they have no one to blame when their access to contraception and other health care options is taken away from them. The choice could not be any clearer: if you have the XX chromosome, the Republican party will not treat you as an adult human being, they will treat you as a second class citizen. Period. Barack Obama is not the be-all and end-all*, but he’s not going to take away rights that women have taken for granted since Griswold v. Connecticut.

*I do not approve of many of Barack Obama’s policies. But the alternative is too grim to contemplate, because the Republican Party as an entity has gone completely fucking crazy. Demented. Deranged. Maniacal. Looney tunes.

@dmsilev: I had to click through to read the whole article. While that was a gem, one of the commenters there wrote a reply that caused me to light a cigarette after:

Some reasons why BHO will SOUNDLY beat BHO Lite (not exhaustive, by any means):
    1. More money, oragnization, and connections
    2. More attack/negative ad mechanisms, including the entire lib media fleet
    3. Biggest issues give-away: Romneycare/Obamacare
    4. BHO can out-debate Romney literally blindfolded (however many debate coaches Rombot goes through with his $$$)
    5. BHO has a charismatic presence, but when BHO Lite speaks, bring a pillow or send footage to America’s Funniest Home Videos containing all of his stupid, awkward gaffes or putrid attempts at “singing.”
    6. BHO, even without his teleprompter, sounds a heck of a lot more human and Rombot in his most “trees are the right height” form.__
The point is, none of the other candidates (Newt/Santo) would have the vast arsenal of resources that BHO would have either . . . BUT . . . unlike Romney, both have credible CONSERVATIVE credentials they can stand on and fight back with. Romney, on the other hand, has no such credibility.
