This is a pretty good summary of the last month or so to commemorate International Women’s Day. When is International Men’s Day, you ask? Every day but March 8. Open thread.

I’m sure Rush Limbaugh will have a very special program today to honor International Women’s Day…

Ohio State Senator Nina Turner has introduced legislation to protect men, “the greatest gender.”

I don’t think it’s quite as good as my idea of what to do if a man wants to take some V*agra – which is to stick a catheter-camera up his johnson until it shows him his ball-sack, with all of those potential babies swimming around in them, and asking if he’s prepared to pay for them to be raised and educated if they “get lucky” like he’s hoping to – but it’s pretty damn good!

That is just wonderful. Full of win.

March 14th. It involves a steak and … well, I’ll let you google the rest.

At the International Women of Courage awards ceremony, presently being hosted by the First Lady and Sec Clinton, reproductive rights, and men’s attempts to curtail them, has been front and center.

Reminds me of when my wife* used to go so upset at the BET channel.
“Where is the WHITE Entertainment channel?”
I’d tell her, “Change the channel. Do you see all of the other channels other than BET? That is your White Entertainment Channel. You got about 500 of them.”
*Due to my intervention, the wife is a reformed Republican. Also, too, I converted another old girlfriend from a died-in-the-wool Bush Republican to a dirty fucking hippie liberal. In fact, when I met the ex-girlfriend, within minutes she professed her love for W. and asked if I was a “fucking liberal”. But I worked my liberal mojo on her and now she tears her old conservative friends new a-holes on the Facebook.

@dmsilev: Sarah Palin’s premature unveiling? Didn’t they announce her like three days before the convention? And does anyone whose mailing address ends in “Planet Earth” think that was the problem?

International Women’s Day — a day observed in many countries, but not the US, commemorating an event that took place…in the US.
(Maybe we’d better not mention anything about IWD. It might spur GOP state governments across the nation to double down on the War on Women.)

@TooManyJens: I noticed that too. Yeah, her selection was announced the weekend before the RNC Convention, so unless the author was expecting a surprise reveal ten seconds before the VP-nominee’s speech, I’m not sure what he was objecting to.

You’re a much better man than me. I woulda heard all of “fucking li…” before either clowning her into tears or buying her a Prarie Fire shot as a “goodwell” gesture.
But I’m an asshole, so there’s that.

@El Tiburon: There are a hundred reasons to get upset at BET, but the actual presence of black people on it isn’t one of them. Good work mojo-ing the wimmens.

The well being of all children is interwoven in the situation of their mothers. And that affects all of us.
So it would behoove humans to tend to the care of females.
The well being of every woman everywhere is tied up with her ability to manage her own fertility. Women in general know this, as do the men who love them.
And that is one reason why so many people are fighting tooth and nail to preserve access to contraception.
General Stuck (Bravo Nope Zero)
@c u n d gulag:
I did check it and some lady senator is proposing a snarky equal treatment of men who need pecker hardening meds to highlight the double standard for wymen folk and the Transvag Wand of Freedom/wingnut. Unless I read it wrong.
So like i said. Fucking wingnuts caused this madness. With their stupid twisted war on lady parts.
These are all subjects best left to sex ed in pool halls across the land, and not for pervy peckerwood politicians to peruse for votes, or whatever they do it for. You can quote me on that.

@Svensker: When I was a very small child, I once asked when Children’s Day was too. My parents have the expected answer, I thought about it and decided that was fair play, and thus I turned out liberal.

Kansas St and Baylor are on the teevee. KSU’s nearly-illegible purple on black I’ve seen before, but Baylor’s “standing next to a traffic cone” look is a fresh hell.

That link is full of WIN.
In my observation the Republicans have always been better at motivating their base to get out and vote, insofar as they’ve needed motivation since 2008 to do something against that Black Man In The White House. This time around, the party was fairly well split before all the anti-contraception blathering reared its ugly head. (Publicly – I know it’s always been there in the background.)
Now, thanks primarily to the dynamic duo of Rick and Rush, they’ve managed to create yet another split, and this one much more basic – as in most women, even most Republican women, saying: “Fuck you. We’re not going back there.” They can’t take it back, it’s right out there in the open. And to add the cherry on top of the sundae, those women on the Dem side who have been disappointed every day by Obama? Or women who have been too apathetic to vote because “they’re all the same and both sides do it”? If they stay home on Election Day 2012 because St. Ralph isn’t available for a protest vote – or if they stay home because it’s just too much trouble to get out there and vote – they have no one to blame when their access to contraception and other health care options is taken away from them. The choice could not be any clearer: if you have the XX chromosome, the Republican party will not treat you as an adult human being, they will treat you as a second class citizen. Period. Barack Obama is not the be-all and end-all*, but he’s not going to take away rights that women have taken for granted since Griswold v. Connecticut.
*I do not approve of many of Barack Obama’s policies. But the alternative is too grim to contemplate, because the Republican Party as an entity has gone completely fucking crazy. Demented. Deranged. Maniacal. Looney tunes.
