Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I was promised a recession.

Let’s finish the job.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

You cannot shame the shameless.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Not all heroes wear capes.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Consistently wrong since 2002

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

‘God Hates Fags’ Church Preparing Ad for Oink Limbaugh Show

The Southern Poverty Law Center reports that Fred Phelps  and the bigoted wackaloons at Westboro Baptist Church are fixin’ to advertise on the Rush Limbaugh Show, if Oink will have them:

Guess who’s knocking on Rush Limbaugh’s door as his advertisers flee like rats from a sinking ship? It’s the people behind the infamous GodHatesFags website — the Westboro Baptist Church, the most notorious gay-bashing group in America — and they’re ready to step in to keep the embattled Limbaugh on the air.

“As a matter of fact, I can confirm that,” Westboro spokesman Steve Drain told Hatewatch today when asked if the church was seeking to advertise on “The Rush Limbaugh Show.” “We’re preparing our first ad at this very moment, and we’ll have a 30-second radio spot ready to go by Friday.”

Drain said he has been in contact with ad executives, but added that the Westboro spots will have to be produced before they are accepted or rejected. The radio ads would be posted as audio links Friday on the church’s websites, the Westboro spokesman said.

I guess when 156 advertiser drop you like a hot potato because you spew nasty  misogynist filth at a private citizen, calling her a slut and a prostitute and demanding that she post the videos online, it opens up some air-time for the most loathsome of your admirers.

That’s a solid brand you’ve got there, dude.

This would be great. If we can get enough wingnuts together in one location, we can create a wingularity which will suck them all in.

Nice to see Limbaugh finally getting the sort of advertisers he deserves.

Sadly, the Westboro folk aren’t bigoted wackaloons. They’re bigoted grifters who spew hate to provoke people into attacking them so they can sue for damages. They’re vile and hateful, but best dealt with by cutting off their publicity, not giving them more attention.

My best guess is that they’re going to create something so absurdly vile Clear Channel will refuse to accept it for Rush’s show. They’ll kerfuffle will get people to visit their web site to hear the ad that even Limbaugh wouldn’t broadcast. They net some cheap publicity, which is exactly what media whores want.

I’d say they’re both/and. Check out this documentary from Louis Theroux: The Most Hated Family in America. He did a follow-up, too. you can find it at the same site.

Probably true, but the more stories that have the words “Westboro Baptist” and “Rush Limbaugh,” the better.

It couldn’t happen to a better guy.

There is no way in hell Rush or Clear Channel would ever accept an ad from Westboro. They would never get another fucking advertiser ever again, unless it’s from Stormfront or AryanMatch.com.

My own personal conspiracy theory: the Phelps clan is getting an infusion of outside funding. I’ve spent over 20 years living in assorted places within an hour of Topeka and I’ve seen these guys protest across generations. They showed up to protest the Radiohead show in KC last Sunday and I swear they had something I haven’t seen at a local WBC protest in over a decade – men in their 30’s.

I actually laughed and asked one guy if they’d hired him off of Craigslist. Because they’ve long been about the women and children. He wasn’t anything like their typical protester. He was more like the shock troops the Republicans pay to harass people outside the polls. It was just really… off.

anyone else with a palm phone on verizon unable to post comments from the phone? I used to get ‘error 404’ which wouldn’t show my comment until I backpaged, now I get ‘error 403’ which denies my comment because I’m supposedly coming from a suspect site.

I’ve wanted to switch phones since webOS dumped us into bingmaps, now I have another reason…

    OT, sorta, but

The principal of an Iowa secondary school that allowed members of a Christian rock band to espouse their anti-gay, anti-abortion views while showing students images of fetuses that had apparently been aborted is resigning, the district superintendent said.

    Though, apparently,

Stanton said Cooper’s decision is not related to Cooper’s recommendation that the district invite the band Junkyard Prophet to perform at last week’s assembly, and said the plan had been “in the works” for nearly a month.

Actually having been close to several dead animals who had fleas I would say that the “fleas are deserting a dead animal” The flea desertion of a dead possum or raccoon for instance is immediate when you stick your warm blooded hand towards said dead animal.

@Riilism: That’christian’ band has been misrepresenting itself and playing at school assemblies for years. They sell themselves as innocuous and then hammer the kids over the head when they show up.

The school principal should have used teh google before hiring the band, but asshole Bradlee Dean certainly lied to the school about what to expect.

At any rate, he shouldn’t have been hiring something that bills itself as a christian rock band for a school assembly.

Good point, Sophia (post #12). I thought the WBC was composed of mostly one big family. How do they make enough money to afford a 30-second spot on El Blimpo’s show? I also wonder what sane outsider would choose to breed with such hateful individuals (to create the pitter-patter of little homophobes).
