Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

In after Baud. Damn.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

“A king is only a king if we bow down.” – Rev. William Barber

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

Republicans do not trust women.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

As reported by commenter Gin & Tonic:

Harpoon’s Rich & Dan’s Rye IPA was so popular that they’ve returned it as a year-round brew, available in 6-packs of 12 oz bottles.

Fantastic news. Harpoon IPA is pretty good, but that special edition rye was far and away the big hit from my visit to their brewery. If I had a .gif of Homer Simpson running in a circle on the floor I would post that. I don’t, so here is a pic of Max.

I hate IPAs, if I wanted to drink pine flavored stuff turpentine is cheaper. OTOH I love rye beers & plan on brewing some shortly. The secondary fermenter is holding a citra blond ale that has a ton of dry hopping but citra has more grapefruit/lemon then pine tar aroma so I have my fingers crossed on that. If you come across Wiedmer Brothers Citra Blond its a great summer beer.

There is a Belgian wit going in the primary shortly, with several spices including Bird of Paradise & orange peel. Its like a spiced bread desert

Homer’s beer song is on youtube. Maybe you could post that in honor of the new beer.

My beer expertise is simple: almost all beers you can buy are above average, so OK to drink.

@Schlemizel: You don’t hate IPA’s, you just hate *bad* IPA’s… I blame the Pacific Northwest for the scourge of harsh, resiny, piney IPA’s, and judging homebrew contests I have had more than my share of crappy clones of those same beers…

Earlier tonight the talking heads on MSNBC, including Chuck Todd were trying to debunk PPP’s poll showing Mittens would win Illinois by 15 pts. They insisted it would be at most an 8 pt race, citing their “gut instinct”. Seriously. They didn’t cite any poll or history, they based their call on their tummy.

With 69% of precincts reporting, Mittens is leading by 14 pts. Once again, within the margin of error, PPP was right.

What this shows is how the corporate media will say and do anything to project a horse race to drive up ratings. Numbers and statistical science be damned, “it’s a horse race because we says so, damn it, now keep tuned to this fuckin channel, mutherfuckers!”

So for the next 7 1/2 months beware of corporations bearing manipulated polls.

November won’t be close. All the corporations’ “polls” and all the corporations’ talking heads, won’t be able to put Humpty Mittens together, again.

I’m a Twin Citian beer geek who just doesn’t understand the rabid Surly fanboi culture. They make some good beers, some of them really good, but “best ever”? There’s too much other good local beer for that claim to stand. I think both Town Hall and Steel Toe make better hoppy beers than Surly; and while Surly Darkness has a pretty amazing event and they’ve played the market like a violin, for a Russian Imperian Stout, it’s decent at best…

Yeah, I’ll say that if I had one complaint about Pacific Northwest beers (most of which I like) is that many of the pale ale & IPA styles made here are way, way overhopped. Yes, flavor is good. An assload of hops is not always the best way to achieve that.
