As reported by commenter Gin & Tonic:
Harpoon’s Rich & Dan’s Rye IPA was so popular that they’ve returned it as a year-round brew, available in 6-packs of 12 oz bottles.
Fantastic news. Harpoon IPA is pretty good, but that special edition rye was far and away the big hit from my visit to their brewery. If I had a .gif of Homer Simpson running in a circle on the floor I would post that. I don’t, so here is a pic of Max.
Yes, that is a Harpoon collar on my dog. Chat about whatever.

We’ve been chatting all night. Put up some damn substantive posts. We’re not paying you for open threads.

Maxpuppeh. Dapper dog.

I hate IPAs, if I wanted to drink pine flavored stuff turpentine is cheaper. OTOH I love rye beers & plan on brewing some shortly. The secondary fermenter is holding a citra blond ale that has a ton of dry hopping but citra has more grapefruit/lemon then pine tar aroma so I have my fingers crossed on that. If you come across Wiedmer Brothers Citra Blond its a great summer beer.
There is a Belgian wit going in the primary shortly, with several spices including Bird of Paradise & orange peel. Its like a spiced bread desert

Hoping Obama gets more votes here than Romney.
Figures Romney’s HQ is in Schaumburg. The only culture there is Ikea.
PIGL
I am not really a dog person, nor fond of short hairs, especially dobies. But, ZOMG! Max is one majestic figure of a dog. Also goofy, which I will never understand how he pulls that off.

@PIGL: It’s the natural ears that make it all work together.

Santorum just said climate change “is not climate science, it’s political science.” Le sigh. The stupid is so strong with him.
I am very glad to get a hit of Max dog. Love his face. I wish he could come over and have a playdate with my dog, who is getting indolent from laying around all winter.

@BGinCHI: Yea Dawg but you should have gone to the Cellar in Arlington back in the day!

Hey! Santorum just quoted from Reagan’s “Medicare will be the end of freedom” speech (without mentioning that it was about Medicare, of course.)

You’ve driven Max to drink? Poor Max.

Max likes beer? Looks very slender and trim for a beer dog.
Homer’s beer song is on youtube. Maybe you could post that in honor of the new beer.
My beer expertise is simple: almost all beers you can buy are above average, so OK to drink.
The math of that is arcane, but easier to understand after a quick sixpack.
Comrade Javamanphil
@BGinCHI: Ah, Catamount. You are taking me back to my days as the keg boy at Pearl St Beverage in the Queen City. (We sold a lot of Genessee.)

Sierra Nevada’s Ruthless Rye is a very nice Rye IPA if you’re into that sort of thing.

@Schlemizel: You don’t hate IPA’s, you just hate *bad* IPA’s… I blame the Pacific Northwest for the scourge of harsh, resiny, piney IPA’s, and judging homebrew contests I have had more than my share of crappy clones of those same beers…
I usually brew a Wit in the spring, I like a bit of white pepper in it to accentuate the spicyness…

Earlier tonight the talking heads on MSNBC, including Chuck Todd were trying to debunk PPP’s poll showing Mittens would win Illinois by 15 pts. They insisted it would be at most an 8 pt race, citing their “gut instinct”. Seriously. They didn’t cite any poll or history, they based their call on their tummy.
With 69% of precincts reporting, Mittens is leading by 14 pts. Once again, within the margin of error, PPP was right.
What this shows is how the corporate media will say and do anything to project a horse race to drive up ratings. Numbers and statistical science be damned, “it’s a horse race because we says so, damn it, now keep tuned to this fuckin channel, mutherfuckers!”
So for the next 7 1/2 months beware of corporations bearing manipulated polls.
November won’t be close. All the corporations’ “polls” and all the corporations’ talking heads, won’t be able to put Humpty Mittens together, again.

Suddenly feel humiliated that I have absolutely no beer knowledge to impart. Feel like I am no all American he mens.
Now, rye, yes. Bob’s Red Mill rye mush is excellent. I recommend it highly. Never tried to make beer out of it, but makes a great mush for breakfast.
That is the best I can do. Sad.

I don’t get it – Harpoon is the worst brewer I’ve ever encountered. And I’ve “encountered” far too many.
YMMV, I guess…
Brian
@Schlemizel: You’ve been drinking the wrong IPA’s then. I agree some places push all the hops through and make it more and more IBUs for fun I guess.
If you can get a hold of Heady Topper try it.
Brian
In response to the 100 barrel series. They really nail some, and others are just awful. I love trying them at the downtown brewery for that reason.

MAXPUPPEH!!
I have had an absolute shit day. And my week isn’t looking any better. I should be more drunk than I am right now.

@Lojasmo:
I’m a Twin Citian beer geek who just doesn’t understand the rabid Surly fanboi culture. They make some good beers, some of them really good, but “best ever”? There’s too much other good local beer for that claim to stand. I think both Town Hall and Steel Toe make better hoppy beers than Surly; and while Surly Darkness has a pretty amazing event and they’ve played the market like a violin, for a Russian Imperian Stout, it’s decent at best…

i find the 3rd movement of beethoven’s piano sonata #29 to be fairly sublime, but then there’s not much substantive to ramen noodles.
Gin & Tonic
@chrome agnomen: Then you haven’t had good ramen.

@Ronnie P: Rye is the new “it” girl. Sierra’s Ruthless is new; it’s good, but Harpoon’s is better.
Wondering what’s the next hip beer grain. Spelt? Farro?
BGinCHI
@Gin & Tonic: Quinoa.
Mike Lamb
Hopslam and Pliny the Elder are two of the best beers in existence. If you don’t like those IPAs you are dead inside.

@Mike Lamb: Which annoys you more: philistines who call an IPA “beer” or pedants who point out that an ale and a beer are not the same thing?
Yutsano
@BGinCHI: Quelle horreur!

Yeah, I’ll say that if I had one complaint about Pacific Northwest beers (most of which I like) is that many of the pale ale & IPA styles made here are way, way overhopped. Yes, flavor is good. An assload of hops is not always the best way to achieve that.
Ash Can
@Ronnie P:
Agreed. It ain’t Zombie Dust or Arctic Panzer Wolf, but then again, nothing is.

@Yutsano:
Sorry you’ve had a shit day… if Max makes you feel better, maybe a few more puppeh pics will help? I freely concede that my pictures don’t hold a candle to Tim’s, but the dogs are good-lookin’ nonetheless.
And yes, I know I linked to them last night, but I have no kids to be annoyingly proud of, so there you go…

@Gin & Tonic:

@Jebediah: Missed two days of work and got into it with my landlady. Oh and the condo has water damage too so workers have been in and out all day. Only positive: a long soothing talk with a Dawg.
Jebediah
@Yutsano:
Yeah, but if I recall at least one of those workers was cute…
ETA: I hope your week gets better. I know where mine is headed – Thursday is my last night of work, then I am laid off.
Yutsano
@Jebediah:
Yowza! I’ll stop bitching now!
Temporary or otherwise?
Jebediah
@Yutsano:
Permanent. (Unless the EP sells the show elsewhere, and I have no idea what the odds are on that. Fingers crossed for that but in no way counting on it.)
And don’t stop bitching on my account! If you can’t vent in a comment thread, where can you vent?
Yutsano
@Jebediah: One of the workers flirted with me a bit too. But I’m too old for that shit anymore.
Much luck to you good sir. May the misfortunes pass quickly. And may we be able servants to you in your time of need.
Jebediah
@Yutsano:
Thanks!
I guess if you know someone on a union-signatory show* who needs an AE with two cute dogs, you could point me in their direction…

@Jebediah: Mnemosyne might have a few contacts. E-mail one of the FPers to give your addy to her. It definitely couldn’t hurt!

thanks for the tip… and don’t we “far-left loons” always have the option of being paid handsomely by George Soros to… I don’t know, do something or other? Where do I sign up for that?
