Oh, fuck this:
This woman is out of her fucking skull. How DARE she? Democrats are scaring women to drum up votes? Is she serious? Let’s take a little walk down GOP Fuckery Lane, shall we?
- Republicans are trying to shove foreign objects into our vaginas.
- Republicans are comparing us to fucking farm animals.
- Republicans are trying to force us to carry DEAD FETUSES in our wombs because hey — pigs and cows do it!
- Republicans want to tax us if we choose to get an abortion.
- Republicans are forcing doctors to flat-out lie to us about abortions increasing the risk of breast cancer.
- Republicans tried (and nearly succeeded) in denying us access to any preventive health care whatsoever, if it offends somebody’s twisted theological sense of morality.
- Republicans are trying to force us to watch an abortion before having one.
- Republicans are trying to force us to get permission from the man (Father? Rapist? Who cares!) before getting an abortion.
- Republicans are trying to force us to tell employers whether we’re using the pill for birth control.
- Republicans think that a baby conceived by rape is a gift from God.
- Republicans think that we gals don’t need contraception — we should just hold an aspirin between our knees.
- Republicans think that “rape” is a figment of our imagination. Is it really rape or are you just being a cranky-pants?
- Republicans think we’re sluts for wanting insurance coverage for contraception — whether for birth control or otherwise — all the while demonstrating how utterly devoid of brain activity they are by suggesting that the doctor-recommended use for birth control is “a-pill-per-screw,” and that maybe we could pay for our ovarian cyst treatment if we’d just stop drinking so many fucking soy lattes.
Republicans want us to lie back and take it. They want us to just “close our eyes” while they shame us and guilt us and emotionally traumatize us and out us to the public for making a choice about our bodies that has absolutely fuck-all to do with them. And they’re doing this under the guise of “education” and “life-affirmation”; attaching quaint and pithy names to horrific bills which violate our rights as humans. Names like “Ultrasound Opportunity” or “Right to Know and See.” Don’t worry. It’s all about knowledge.
Knowledge is power, you see, and frankly ladies, you don’t know what the fuck you’re doing. You think you’re incubating baby iguanas in your wombs while storks slingshot babies through open windows in the dead of night. No, no, silly one. This here probe will give you all the knowledge about the birds and the bees that you need, and conveniently, since you’re pregnant in the first place, you’ve already consented to be vaginally probed by our metal knowledge stick. Hooray!
Oh yeah — and let’s not forget that we’re getting fucking FIREBOMBED for daring to believe that a woman’s uterus is hers. Not her husband’s. Not her boyfriend’s. Not her father’s or uncle’s or brother’s. And certainly not some fucking politician who does not now nor has he ever owned a uterus, or the feckless Republican women who fall in line behind these misogynist assholes.
And you can fuck right off with that “oh, the firebomber was just a crazy homeless dude” crap. As Melissa MacEwan at Shakesville so eloquently put it:
Guess who else is “crazy”? Anyone who sees a pattern of anti-progressive violence—and, very specifically, misogynist and/or homophobic and/or racist violence—and has the unmitigated temerity to suggest that, hey, maybe this shit isn’t happening in a void.
All of this is to say the following–
Cathy McMorris-Rodgers? Jump up your own uterus, lady. You don’t speak for me. You don’t speak for thousands of women who don’t have the distinct privilege of standing on the Capitol steps spewing bullshit in order to protect the misogynist necks of the Republican men to whom you’ve sold your soul, your dignity, your humanity, your personal freedom, and, indeed your life; all the while knowing that should you or your daughter Grace require birth control or an abortion or any of the women’s health services that you and your ilk are viciously stripping from us, you will be able to get them. After all, as a member of Congress, you have some of the best health insurance in the country! And we all know that the rules which you seek to apply to millions of women — many of them poor women of color — don’t apply to the daughters of deluded state politicians from the Pacific Northwest. (Dontcha know.)
So, Cathy, you want to give up your reproductive rights? Or the reproductive rights of your daughter? Fine. Go right ahead.
But back the fuck up off of mine.
And the notion that Democrats are scaring women by shining a light on the horrific human rights injustices that you Republicans seek to impose on us is patently absurd. Democrats aren’t scaring women, Cathy. Republicans are scaring women.
Stop it.

Yes, she’s going to claim that Democrats are scaring women, just like Republicans in 2010 claimed Democrats were going to end Medicare.

We’re “manufacturing a War on Women” by pointing to the actual legislation that actual state legislators belonging to the actual Republican party have proposed and even passed in real life where about 50% of us have uteri? Stockholm Syndrome? I can’t see how she can actually believe the words she’s saying, and if she’s saying them without belief but to do damage control while actual women are losing their rights to privacy, dignity and access to health care, she has absolutely no respect from me.
(If pointing this all out is war, I have been complicit in passing along information to the women I love–have I been needlessly scaring them by informing them of real things? I’m not sure when I started hating women or fearing them. Huh. Oh wait. I don’t. She’s as full of shit as a very full of shit thing.)

Eloquent ABL, thank you.
More and more I have so had it with right wingers.
To add a few more to your list:
1. They are behind the ‘law’ in Florida that legalizes murder. Many cheer Zimmerman, as Little Green Footballs documents.
2. They want to start more wars.
3. They want more on defense even though we spend about equal to the rest of the world combined.
4. They prevent us from doing anything when we have a majority.
5. They lie, lie, lie and then lie some more. What’s the point of talking with congenital liars?
6. They ally themselves with the oligarchy.
7. They threaten violence which occasionally spurs it.
8. They try and take away our right to vote.
9. They try to cram their Satanic religion down our throats
I could go on.
They are destroying this country and ruining the lives of millions. I think the time is coming when the US should split into those states that want to live like a Christian Taliban and those of us who are civilized. Hopefully right wingers will emigrate to where they can rule and I for one would happily pay higher taxes to ameliorate the expenses of civilized Americans moving to civilized states.
They should leave or we should.

In a way, she’s correct: Democrats, by accurately describing what Republicans are trying to do, are in fact scaring women. ABL – On a state by state basis, we should start demanding that candidates for state legislatures sign a Norquist-like pledge: “I will absolutely never vote for any legislation that will make it more difficult for women to get any form of health care.” Start in a “purple” state like Wisconsin where the legislature is currently Republican, but has a chance of being switched. I leave it to you to come up with a suitable name for this pledge.

@burnspbesq:
Absolutely. If the intent is to shame Democrats into dropping this as a political tool, it’s not going to work.
I don’t feel bad about it AT ALL. This is one time that every single accusation is true. If anything, Democrats are underplaying the issue, because the insane focus on women’s health is so comprehensive. It’s everywhere. They’re pushing it nationally, at the state level, AND at the county level, for God’s sakes.
There’s a remedy too. If Republican (female) politicians are angry, they can DO a lot to fix this. They could demand the Party stop pushing laws that target women. They could even (imagine!) push laws that PROTECT women’s access to contraception! She’s a lawmaker. Why doesn’t she quit appearing on television and DO something?
All this ineffectual whining is doing is convincing me that women have no real power in that Party.

The woman may have a skull but her brain-wiring is all wrong. In addition, she is news-illiterate if she does not know that legislatures in many states have passed (are on the brink of passing)invasive and authoritarian laws that treat women as sub-par creatures, and that treat them as fair game for government-mandated invasive, humiliating, coercive, and demeaning, physical procedures.
Do these GOPers have any clue that women can actually vote? And that many of them, including conservative women, are thoroughly disgusted with the GOP’s assault on women?

One thing that hasn’t gotten much play is not only do women have to undergo this procedure, they also have to pay for it. That right there makes the cost of an abortion prohibitive.

I’m sure it has been said already but not all republicans believe the same things those in the media and those in control put out there. I am conservative for fiscal reasons and for some general religious/spiritual beliefs. Your list is INCREDIBLY biased and when rants like these happen it makes your argument seem weak from the vitriol you have allowed to explode from it. However, I respect that this is your blog and you can say whatever the hell you want in whatever tone you please. I am simply telling you your anger towards ‘republicans’ seems very narrow minded.

Outstanding rant. Thank you.

I love this, and I love you for writing it. I’ve reblogged and shared, and I wish I could hand a copy of this whole post to everyone I meet every day for the rest of the election.
Sarah
@Laura: You leave me a little bit speechless, but I wanted you to know I think you’re an idiot. If you’re not angry, you’re likely not among the 98% of women who’ve used birth control. You’re apparently not among the more than 30% of women who have an abortion in their lifetime. It’s unlikely you’ve ever been treated like less of a person because of the way you were born if you can’t see that this righteous rage barely scratches the surface of the indignation women and every man who loves them should feel towards the political bullshit the Republican Party is pushing on a local, state, and federal level.
Tom
Whenever you hear a Republican say, “I’m here to say that…” you can bet your paycheck that the next thing to leave their lips is the most outrageous, distorted, brazen, blatant lie you have ever heard in your life. It’s some sort of mental defense mechanism that allows them to believe that they are telling the truth. (The true part being the fact that they are in fact present in that place at that time in order to deliver a bald-faced lie.)
Watch this woman’s face as she utters her little screed. She knows she is lying through her teeth, and she is broadcasting that she knows it through every iota of her body language.

Laura
Sarah, I am quite intelligent, thank you. I just choose to keep my ‘rage’ at a reasonable level so I don’t spew in a manor that makes me seem unapproachable.
I was on birth control for about 7 years and no, I have never had an abortion and the idea of having one repulses me- I am of the very small group who would give their own life for a child. However, if one of my daughters came to me and decided that was the only choice they could make, I would support their decision no problem. You see, I have this thing called an open mind and understand that not everyone thinks like I do, believes in what I believe and can make their own minds up. I appreciate other opinions (as long as it isn’t yelled/screamed/ranted in my face) and often am either brought to light on something I had little knowledge on to begin with or am offered a new way to view a subject if I am part of a conversation or have read someone’s views on something.
But I can see where you would come to your conclusion about me without even knowing who I am. All I had to say was ‘I am a republican’ and you bristle. Which means you automatically placed me into the folder labeled ‘idiot’ because I don’t vote the same party as you. Brilliant.
constancel
@Laura:
Laura, when Republicans in legislature after legislature are passing or attempting to pass these anti-women bills, who do you suggest we should direct our anger about them towards? The Democrats? The Libertarians? The Independents?
The list isn’t biased. It’s simply factual. This is what is happening. In every case, it’s being driven by Republicans, proposed by Republicans, defended by Republicans, and voted in by Republicans.
Naming the party who’s trying to f*** with you doesn’t have anything to do with being closed minded or hateful. It’s seeing what’s in front of your face, plain as day. You might want to take a look yourself if indeed you ever want to see a day when your daughter is free to choose and you’re free to support her choice.
LT
@Laura
“All I had to say was ‘I am a republican’ and you bristle. Which means you automatically placed me into the folder labeled ‘idiot’ because I don’t vote the same party as you. Brilliant.”

I can see your point, but I think that automatic assumption comes from the fact that even though you might be relatively (or quite, depending – I don’t know you, so I can’t say) open-minded, this new legislation curtailing the rights of people with uteri is anything BUT open-minded or understanding of the situations that people can find themselves in. It’s essentially stomping down on anything that is not explicitly a ‘men’s health’ problem in the most offensive, dehumanizing way possible.
Not all Republicans think like that? Okay, but Republican votes for Republican candidates put them into power (and those in question definitely have a clear disdain for people that are not cis-men)- and that is why we are currently having this problem. I cannot dictate your vote, or anybody else’s, but I find it immensely problematic when people continue to vote for a party that considers them to be on par with farm animals and that believes that they should not have a choice concerning their own bodily autonomy whatsoever, regardless of their circumstances. (13 year old rape victim? Sucks to be you – the transvaginal ultrasound is just down this hall, have fun with that…)
But hey, that’s just my opinion.
Mish
Laura,
How exactly is this list biased? Can you cite examples of Republican-supported legislation that supports women’s health and reproductive rights? I’d certainly be willing to revise my opinion of the GOP if you could provide some facts more substantial than your own personal experience.
zillah975
Um. On that last note, I think that one good step towards not always ranting from an unabashedly cisgendered perspective would to at least be abashed about it when you do.
