Not just for all the very good reasons Zandar advances.
Just look. He’s having the time of his life:

Go to around the two minute mark to get to the good stuff. (Via)
Now try to imagine Larry Summers in the same context.

Whatever their system of government is, it’s the stupidest yet imagined.
Corner Stone
Oh God no! We can’t let Dr. Kim be installed as President of the World Bank!
Then Auto-tune will be one step closer to ruling the world!
Tick that clock one more minute to Midnight people, we’re doomed.
Linda Featheringill
That was cute! Thanks for the happy interlude. :-)
Corner Stone
What were the reasons Zandar advanced again?
Mnemosyne
It’s funny, but the more I hear about Kim, the more it sounds like his time at Dartmouth College was almost a working vacation for him. It’s hard to believe that being a college president was any kind of a challenge for the guy who co-founded Partners in Health.
Tom Levenson
@Corner Stone: Zandar’s reasons: the choice pisses off the right; pisses off the professional left. Which are two fine outcomes, IMHO
Brian R.
@Corner Stone:
If only there were a hyperlink to those reasons right there in the words you copied.
Amir Khalid
Thank’ee. That cheered me up, some, after Liverpool threw away another three points with shit defending. it’s like their defense said after the Carling Cup, “Okay, that’s our trophy won for the season.” Grump.
So I wonder, how will Obama’s critics use this clip to try and show that Dr Kim isn’t serious enough to be World Bank president?
Libby's person
This was fun. I like belonging to the party that welcomes cool, creative, smart people with good senses of humor!
lamh35
if there’s one thing I miss when I’m at work is the pie filter.
having a good sense of humor can be a good thing in a stressful job like Mr Kim will have.
Corner Stone
@Tom Levenson: So Tom, the joke some make around here about “what do conservatives believe in?”, that’s good enough for you also?
Point being, Zandar isn’t making an advocacy pitch.
Redshift
@Corner Stone: Dang! You mean it was Auto-Tune and not SkyNET we should have been watching out for all these years?
Corner Stone
@Redshift: Clearly.
Look at the rising hordes of Disney generate Auto-tune pop stars dominating young culture around the world.
Do we really stand a chance?
Corner Stone
@lamh35: Having a sense of humor is a good thing. You should try it out some time.
HRA
Thanks, Tom. That was enjoyable and much needed.

@Libby’s person:
But, but . . .
How could you forget about this? http://youtu.be/2c0P28cqFDY

I think all nominees for cabinet or equivalent posts (I know the World Bank isn’t a cabinet post) should have to submit a video of them singing and/or dancing.
As for Larry Summers, I would love to see him in a rap video.
PurpleGirl
I think Dr. Kim is one cool college president. That is a funny video and I’d love to know the back story of how he came take part in the musical number.
Felanius Kootea
Without libation? That’s no fun :-).
ETA: Dirty Bit!
Corner Stone
@J.:
Do you truly hate all of your fellow mankind that much?
I’m envisioning MC Rove and Dancin’ Dave Gregory times about a bajillion on the level of sheer Event Horizon Terror.

@Felanius Kootea: Parsed strictly, I think that can mean nothing was spilled / wasted on the gods. 100% consumption is still possible.

Meanwhile, the NDP here in Canada is choosing a new leader today, and one nominee’s supporter, a truly kick-ass MP, made the mistake of singing backup to a rapper as part of their pitch for the nominee. And this MP was a fine punk-to-country professional musician for several years before he got into politics.
boss bitch
@Corner Stone:
We can always count on you for an uncalled for/pull out of your ass attacks.

Lotta people gonna be confused by N Korea eradicating disease around the world.

@J.: I would prefer a rap sheet.
Corner Stone
@boss bitch: Ha ha. I know what you’re trying on. I see you.

No thank you. I’m having a pretty good day so far.
Jamey
F**king amazing video.
I [heart] MC J-Yong-K!
And, wow, Dartmouth’s black student has talent, too!
passerby
@J.:
Second that.
After watching Kim singing, I had a similar thought only I’d require the candidate for any elected position to do public kareoke as a means of determining their ability to let go and either showoff their pipes or show that they can laugh at themselves–most of us would be laughing with them.
I think American culture could use more singing–not just in church, and not just on American Frickin Idol.
Ever been in a grocery store that pipes in “oldies” music? As I roll up and down the aisles, I find myself and others quietly singing along. It’s a good thing. No?
ruemara
@passerby: If we spent more time being happy, we might forget to be afraid of shit and paranoid. Can’t have that.
Corner Stone
@Jamey: Singular Singer?
passerby
@Corner Stone:
Come on, Corner Stone. boss bitch is right. Why are you laying on lamh35?
Uncalled for. Come on.

@ruemara:
Too late (in my case). I find that the whole political scene, driven by Tokyo Rose, ain’t nuttin’ but some bwulllshit!
Corner Stone
@passerby: How bout you and bitch give lamh a chance to respond. Eh?
You think she can’t do so for herself? Why are you diminishing her as a person and commenter?
Insomniac
Fabulous! Love this!
Kirk Spencer
@Corner Stone: the way to stop bullying is to condemn it even — no, especially when not the victim.
Corner Stone
@Kirk Spencer: I agree. I hope one day boss bitch and passerby will understand their uncalled for torment of me.
I’m not positive on the outcome. But maybe one day.
J.
@Corner Stone:
Yes, yes I do. But I also think L. Sums getting gangsta on YouTube would be awesome.
Corner Stone
@J.: Don’t you think his stage name would have to be “Big Sums” ?
Both in the fact he’s a large individual, and he’s been stealing money for years?
Oh, and remind me to never ask you to pick up breakfast for the office.
passerby
@Corner Stone:
Fair enough then.

@Corner Stone:
That is something I hate about this blog: how you have to wait until everyone else has stopped typing in order to write a comment.
Corner Stone
@wrb: They jumped on a bus with no wheels.

Hully gee, that was awesome.

I loved it! Dr. Kim is from Iowa, graduating from Muscatine High School. He has connections to the U of Iowa, where I received my J.D. He is a terrific choice for his background and because the right and firebaggers are pissed…

The modern version of Chinese civil service examinations, which included poetry and calligraphy sections.
Or maybe of the tightrope dancing candidates in Laputa . . . .

I can’t fucking believe Obama appointed a gangsta rapper as president of the World bank.
