For all you Mad Men fanatics.
I just watched the Game of Thrones Season 2 preview, and I am so stoked. Was also shocked at how beautiful Emilia Clarke is with her normal brown hair and piercing blue eyes instead of the blonde she plays as Daenerys Targaryen. And Peter Dinklage has such charisma and what I like to call the Morgan Freeman voice. I could listen to him read the dictionary.

I just saw “The Hunger Games” and if you liked the book, you will really like the movie. It was true to the book and very well done.
Mnemosyne
I think that’s called the Alan Rickman voice ’round these here parts.
Comrade Mary
@Mnemosyne: It’s called the Dinklage voice around here. I am besotted with the guy.
Mnemosyne
@Comrade Mary:
Oh, I’ve loved Dinklage since The Station Agent. He’s done a few audio books — he turned up as Roger Williams in the audiobook version of The Wordy Shipmates. Still, my ideal audiobook would be Rickman and Dinklage together — maybe an audio version of Waiting for Godot?
lamh35
@Mnemosyne: oh Alan Rickman…is is bad to root for the Sheriff of Nottingham over Robin Hood?
Anyway, I’m sure it’s already been covered, but I don’t know if there was ever an answer. Isn’t 71 too old to have a heart transplant?
FridayNext
I have not seen Game of Thrones yet. No HBO and it is next in my queue.
But Dinlage is charismatic and loved him in Station Agent and even Elf. But Tyrion is NOT supposed to have charisma. He is supposed to be an ugly little troll of man. I’m looking forward to how they make that work in the show. And he just gets physically uglier as the series goes on. Or should. I’ll be curious how they work with that.
lamh35
I’m not big on Mad Men, but Jon Hamm is def easy on the eyes, but he seems so full of himself to me…
Wonkie
The voice that could sing a dictionary is Mark Knofler. I’m lookig forward to Mad Men, but might pass on Hunger Games. I read the books–devoured them i a three day marathon–but the movie clips I’ve seen look too Hollywoodish.
Comrade Mary
@Mnemosyne: That might do.
@lamh35: I never saw Robin Hood at all because — eww — Costner? But I saw this clip with Rickman recently and loved it.

@Mnemosyne: Yeah, for all who haven’t seen The Station Agent, it’s a dynamite movie. Also, Dinklage kills it in both versions of Death at a Funeral.

Dinklage played Richard III at the Public Theatre several years ago. Apparently it was a revelation. I still kick myself for missing it.

First scene of Mad Men was basically a fuck you to all the people yelling “Get a job!” at OWS. Pretty great.

More Plouffe. Wonder if he knew Ryan would be all over the teletubes today saying that he’d consider VP if asked or saying that he believes that Romney would pass the Ryan budget plan if elected.

Rocking the minis and smoking tea, but did Roger call the black guy gay? I don’t think that’s right – queer was the term of the time, I think.
Also, I don’t know how he does it, but Weinter always ends up surfing the zeitgeist – the first scene with the little boy who got wet made me flash Trayvon!

I must be an oddball; the first time I was exposed to Peter Dinklage was as Dr. Arthur Ramsey in the short-lived sci-fi series Threshold.
That show had a lot of promise; I wish it’d gotten the three series they’d scripted out for it.

About the site rebuild, this is cole’s windows vista moment. Fuck up a good thing going under the irrational and meaningless urge to “improve”.
geg6
If Cole is reading, the mobile site, for the most part is awesome. No more typing in the email, which is all I asked for. Thanks, John.
Please don’t spoil “Mad Men”, folks! And whoever said Jon Hamm seems arrogant is mistaking him for Don Draper. He’s smart, he’s liberal, and he’s fucking hot. Plus he’s not arrogant at all. He’s just not your typical Hollywood manequin and is aware of that fact. Confidence, not arrogance. I really like him. To make me like and be interested in a character like Don Draper, you have to be one hell of an actor. Hamm has managed that, in my mind. I love this show. The actors are mostly off the charts. And Matt Weiner is, after David Chase, the best TV writer of the second decade of this century.
Hill Dweller
@geg6: I’d put David Milch and David Simon up there, as well.
Gus
@cathyx: Agreed. It was better than I thought it would be.
Moik
@FridayNext: Tyrion doesn’t have charisma? You and I have been reading two very different series, then.
Admins: Any possibility of moving the author’s name back to the top of the post? I tend to scroll past certain authors (DennisG, AnneLaurie). Nothing personal, I’m just not a fan of their writing. I guess I’m doing it wrong – the popular policy seems to be “bitch and moan in the comments eighteen times on every story from that author, then email John demanding the author be banned from the Internet forever”.
Elias
Back to the shooting of Trayvon Martin. I’m very confused.
My understanding of events is that Zimmerman claims that he had hopped out of his vehicle to check a road sign. Usually I can do that from the driver’s seat of my car and being as he’s a wannabee-cop I can’t imagine why Zimmerman didn’t have a nice big flashlight in the glovebox to illuminate the sign, but whatever. This is when Martin allegedly attacked the poor innocent Zimmerman.
We also know that Zimmerman engaged in his scuffle with Martin in somebody’s lawn, as evidenced by where Martin’s body was laying and the grass stains on Zimmerman’s clothing. Numerous news articles report that the actual location where the fatal gunshot was fired was in some lady’s backyard.
Is there any particular reason why Zimmerman would need to wander into some lady’s backyard in order to read a street sign? This doesn’t add up for me at all.
Egypt Steve
I totally dig Mad Men. But the number of commercials is infuriating.
Ash Can
@lamh35: Lulz. The GOP convention is going to be sheer box office at this rate.
Elias
@Elias:
I mean, I’m just trying to make sense of this.
“Police said Zimmerman told them he got out of his vehicle to get a look at a street sign, and Martin attacked him from behind. Zimmerman said he shot Martin because he was afraid for his life.”
http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2012/03/19/US-to-investigate-killing-of-Fla-teen/UPI-85941332170292/?spt=hts&or=3
And here we have an image of about where Trayvon Martin was shot. What exactly happened here? Did Trayvon pick Zimmerman up and carry him away from the road into somebody’s backyard?

Can somebody please make sense of this for me?
