Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Republicans in disarray!

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Republicans do not trust women.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

So it appears that Newt Gingrich’s health care think tank is now officially as financially bankrupt as it is intellectually and morally:

Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich’s health-care think tank has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

The Center for Health Transformation, which has offices in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and St. Louis, plans to liquidate its assets, according to a filing Wednesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Atlanta. Download the filing here.

What love to have some forensic accountants pore through those books. But like I said, he’s already two cons down the road. Gotta pay those Tiffany’s bills.

    “Republican presidential hopeful”.

Ahem. Fact-check, please. Because as referenced in John’s post title, I don’t believe this motherfucker ever actually thought he’d be elected, nor did he give a shit so long as he was getting to bluster and bloviate on TV and sell some books. And even were that not true, that word “hopeful” is doing a shit-ton of work there at this point.

Sounds like it is time to pierce the corporate veil and go after Newt’s assets. Make him worry about his own dough for a change.

Now, there’s a concept: declaring moral bankruptcy. Chapter 11, chapter 7, and now chapter 666.

He has been dropped like a hot mess. The powers that be do not like him anymore. The only folks that pay taxes anymore are folks that work for a salary. All of the C packs (pick any number) are all tax exempt. Millionaires and billionaires are protected, also all religions. The middle class is supporting the oligarchy, and they are still not happy. They want more. The R’s are running out of excuses. My god, how can voters be so dumb.

Is the use of the word pore, as in pore over his books, the correct usage? I always thought it was pour, have I been using it incorrectly all these years? Just curious.

I love it when I get to be the most cynical person at this cynical blog. The Gingrich health care think tank was one of the few things he has ever done which produced straightforward and good analysis.

This was the organization that put on shows where you can see Newt explaining why universal coverage is an important part of a comprehensive health reform, and presenting ideas close to Romney/Obama care.

The history of the place is checkered with good and bad, but there is enough good in it to be inconsistent with current GOP wingnut economic theology. I think Gingrich would be happier now if it had never existed, and I wonder whether this bankruptcy, and likely extinction, is a strategic repositioning on part of Newt. He would like to bury it, since it is bad for funding future Gingrich consulting and self promotion operations.

which has offices in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and St. Louis

Newt knows so much about health care that it took 3 possibly fully staffed offices to spread his message. Why must the evil soc1alist Obama administration continue regulating our job creators into bankruptcy like this?

@moderateindy: Oh c’mon people! John used the word correctly: pore means to examine closely and critically. Pour is what happens to spilt milk amongst other things. Also too.
