Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

In my day, never was longer.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Shut up, hissy kitty!

This fight is for everything.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Giving up is unforgivable.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

If you have Showtime, turn on the ‘comedy’ special with Bryan Callen called “Man Class.” Partial birth abortion, colon cancer, and parvo are funnier. It’s so bad I’m tempted to make a #douchebag tag for this website.

For some reason, even mediocre comedians are so much more painful to listen to than mediocre musicians, or than watching a mediocre movie or TV show. So when the comedian is actively bad, it’s agonizing.

Having said that, my husband is monopolizing the TV by playing the 389th round of Halo of the evening, so even bad TV sounds pretty good.

This morning I got in the car to go to work and the college radio station was playing Tom Waits’ “Downtown Train” followed by the Roots’ “Make My.” I found out that the two assistants I requested have been approved; I even got the two specific people I asked for. Finally, my office got moved to the other side of the building and I now have a window with a Capitol view. It was a good day.

One of Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpieces, the First Unitarian Church, is near the University Hospital. How long will you be in the area? FLW’s Taliesen summer home is a half hour or so west of town. Several good music clubs. Shit, man, it’s a liberal college town. There will be stuff for you.

Is it just me or have some of the CNN folks been the most insufferable during this whole ‘Rosengate’ idiocy?

They took up the Bay Buchanan / Peggy Noonan talking point about how horribly disloyal the White House was being to poor Rosen and ran with it. When interviewing Stephanie Cutter, Axelrod, Plouffe, etc, the question from John King or Wolf Blitzer is always, “How could you!? How could you throw her under the bus?”

Axelrod almost responded brilliantly by saying she was “CNN’s employee not ours”. He just needed to take it a bit further with something like, “If you take such offense at what’s happening to your coworker, how about you stop covering this rightwing-manufactured BS story and actually cover something of consequence. You’re the gatekeepers — stop giving it oxygen and it will go away.”
