I’m not sure what happened to everyone, but you all were left alone for a while, which is troubling. I did not realize that tonight was the series finale for Eastbound and Down. Somewhat of a spoiler- who was the girl who enticed Seth Rogen to his death- she looks familiar, but I can not place her.
Also too, the Vancouver Canucks need better acting classes.
TenguPhule
Is it me or is Tunch grinning and looking plumper then usual?

Rick Santorum, your timing really sucks.

@Cole:
The loss of the “recent comments” list is hurting us, as it’s hard to tell where the action is (if there is any), especially on the lonely night shift.
I know it was supposedly hogging resources, but maybe it deserves a spot on the wish list for a future rebuild.
billgerat
TV sucks. I’ve been reading David Halberstam’s The Coldest Winter, one of the best books on the Korean War I’ve ever read. Much more entertaining than the Idiot Box.

We’re all off planning a coup de blogtat, Cole. I’d beware the ides of April if I wuz you.
@Steeplejack:
Word fucking WORD.
Notice that the “recent posts” is still there. That’s because the FPers are more IMPORTANT than us.

Anybody have info on the synergies of the Martin Marietta Materials take over attempt of Vulcan Materials?
Have an assignment due for a finance class on Tuesday, but we haven’t touched on synergies at all.
The best I can tell is synergies are an estimate the parties agree to and then you compute stuff like firm values.
I find the whole thing a bit sketchy at this point.
Linkmeister
I’m about to step away from the computer and take up Book 2 of David Weber’s Honor Harrington military sf/space opera series. I just found these a few weeks ago, and I went bonkers in the local used book emporium today and bought the first eight for $32.

@TenguPhule:
Tunch is Flyer’s fan?

Failed management trying to blame the employees. Typical.
Linkmeister
@gene108: To my way of thinking “synergy” means “we have overlapping sales forces in these regions so we can fire half of those expensive commission-paid bastards and save money.”
Arclite
Isn’t that what IMDB is for?
Insomniac
@Linkmeister: You are in for a treat with those books! Some of the later ones get a little bogged down, but the first 10 books or so are generally good.
Linkmeister
@Insomniac: I read the first one and enjoyed it. Somebody recommended the series when I mentioned I’d read three of Mike Shepherd’s “Kris Longknife” books (my library doesn’t have any of the other seven or so), which are similar: female space captain, intrigue, ship-to-ship warfare, etc. The three I did read are pretty good. If you enjoyed Harrington and you can find the Longknife books, give them a shot.

Is this a typical Canucks morning skate?

Game of Thrones was good, as usual, I’m beginning to like Tyrion Lannister, he’s a clever one.

Courtesy of the Cyprus BJ readership, the Cyprus Occupy the Buffer Zone camp, inspired by the OWS movement, got raided by police two Friday nights ago. OBZ is a small camp of Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots who have spent the winter living in the Buffer Zone between the Republic and the TNRC at the Ledra St. Crossing.
It’s a pretty amazing bicommunal movement that has, not surprisingly, gotten little press or support here. They’re calling for reunification of the island and for the UN Peacekeepers to leave.
People came back after the raid,so the movement continues. They’ve held a demonstration against the police brutality and several talks in the Buffer Zone, which at that point is only about 100 yards wide, about how to protest and the legality of police action.
Here is a video of music on a November night at the protest camp with a rockin’ good version of “Hit the Road, Jack.”

Stop at War of Honor, it goes a bit downhill from there.
The first books were great though.
Alison
@The prophet Nostradumbass: Indeed. And Dinklage is so good with the facial expressions. I love watching him act, which is not something you can say about a lot of actors.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Summer: Wow, thats something else. Do you have a link where we could follow it?
Bnut
Turned 28 today, er yesterday. A ribeye, crab cake, roasted brussel sprouts and salad. Half a dozen Fireball shots and as many beers. Come back to my sisters to find her dog and my puppy have gotten into her paints and smeared it all over each other and the sofa. And I lost my car key. This is why we can’t have nice things.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Alison: I have a growing admiration for the girl who plays Arya, she’s pretty good.
And, the woman who plays Lady Stark, yow. That Northern Ireland accent kills me.
Insomniac
@Linkmeister: Thanks for the rec. Will check them out.
Alison
@The prophet Nostradumbass: Overall they did a pretty fine job of casting the show. Even a couple people who at first i was sort of “meh” about are growing on me. I like that they used so few known names.
Summer
@The prophet Nostradumbass: Oh, I DO have links. But the two I thought I put up aren’t showing, are they? Doesn’t clicking “link” and putting the url in the box make it happen? Help?
Evidently longterm mostly lurking doesn’t really familiarize one with the mechanics of this site.
The prophet Nostradumbass
@Summer: Sorry, don’t know about that.

Spent my evening watching PBS, “Edwin Drood”. Laughed ourselves silly during some scenes, especially the ones with Mr Durdles and Mr Bazzard.

@Bnut: Puppehs will be puppehs. You of all humans should understand that. :)

Here are links to the Occupy the Buffer Zone movement in Cyprus. Sorry about the cut-and-paste, but am off to the beach on a beautiful sunny morning and want to share these.

@Yutsano: True about puppehs. However, Bnut made me realize how truely ancient I am, the wifey’s kid is 6 months older than Bnut. I’ll just wander off….
Bnut
@Yutsano: The best part is that the second we came in the door, they ran up the stairs and cowered on the bed, before we had even seen the mess. A lab and a border collie, smart enough to know they will get in trouble, stupid enough to do it anyway.
Yutsano
@BillinGlendaleCA: I’m six months away from the big 4-oh myself. Of course I get told constantly I don’t look it. I tell them they should meet my mom. NO ONE thinks she’s 62.
@Bnut: Those are two of the smartest breeds out there. They also have a high sense of disappointment when they misbehave. But they’re just kids really. They’ll get better. Or they won’t. Regardless you’ll adore them.
Bnut
@BillinGlendaleCA: Age is irrelevant. It’s a state of mind. I’m 28 with a shot lower back, a leg full of metal and will need a knee replacement in 5 years. My dad is 53 and has the same issues. But at my age he was already a widow with 2 kids and a Wall Street job (and a serious drinking habit notwithstanding). But he’s happier than he was at 30 and loves to tell me so. So there’s that at least. Probably because he knows he’s gonna get Social Security if he fucks up lol. I have no such ideas.
@Yutsano: Sooo modest, lol. The Dawg must love the cradle robbing looks, lol. Meanwhile the cat has decided to welcome my addition to the family by ignoring me completely and barfing on the new couch. Having pets has made me seriously question whether I would murder actual human offspring.

@The prophet Nostradumbass:
Do you know how not to be my very own personal commentariat stalker?
Didn’t think so.
muddy
@Bnut: I used to have a rottweiler who would usually take something out of the trash if he was left at home alone. Not dumping the bin, not something gross/tasty, but something innocuous like a paper towel. Then he’d get in his bed, cowering before the crumpled paper as though it were a giant wall of shame. I could tell in one second when I walked in the door if he’d been good, he’d be on the couch. If he was in his bed, there’d be something on the floor in front of it.
So he was smart enough to send himself to his bed, but not smart enough to pick up the stupid paper towel and put it back in the trash. Doglogic.
muddy
@The prophet Nostradumbass: Apparently she does know how not to whine about something, she asked me a very sympathetic question yesterday. There you go.

I hate the Canucks too. Were you referring to Kessler’s best Greg Louganis imitation?
rachel
@Insomniac: I enjoyed The Honor Harrington books, but I still like Miles Naismith/Vorkosigan the best.

So, when does the rioting start?
