Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Republicans in disarray!

Usually wrong but never in doubt

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

A Senator Walker would also be an insult to reason, rationality, and decency.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Pens win. Looks like we figured out how to do shift changes in the NHL, figured out the most explosive offense in the NHL does better when they aren’t in the penalty box, remembered how to forecheck, and Fleury put on a goaltending clinic in the third.

It’s wine-thirty.

    I don’t care much about hockey, but I never liked the Flyers (or any other team from Philly), so we’re rooting for the same side here, Cole. You’re just doing it more vociferously.

    @Corner Stone: Recent comments are dead for the foreseeable future until they do not completely bog down the website load time.

    You have a choice. Bitch about no recent comments, or bitch about the site load time.

    Love this blog, hate the penguins. Go Bruins! Crosby is a punk. At least Philly has balls.

    @John Cole:

    Corner Stone needs recent comments to zero in on for who he wants to troll without having to visit the thread and scroll through for targets to zero in on. This is why I am against having recent comments – to thwart flame wars, and those who only exist here for stoking them.

    @Southern Beale – Congrats on the Predators! Great to see Pekka Rinne doing so well. I saw him play a few times in Milwaukee when he was playing for the AHL Admirals. Go Preds!

    Caught the end of Pens game after several hours of great college lax. Both ACC semifinals were high quality, and we’re set up for Good vs. Evil on Sunday. The best game of the night may have been Bucknesll – Colgate.

    After starting 7-3, the Mets are reverting to expectations.

    @General Stuck:

    “Recent comments” is also useful for us night-shifters who want to see where the action is, if any. It lets you know which threads are still active. I like it, although I am sensitive to the possibility that it adversely affects load time. (Doesn’t seem to be doing that for me, though.)

    @Steeplejack: So far so good on my end. Perhaps whatever was causing the poor upload speed got uncoupled in the redesign. I know nothing about these things. I’m just throwing that out there.

    @Yutsano:

    Yutsy! Good to actually connect with you for a change. I have been lurking lately, usually lagging in time.

    The little browser status bar (at the bottom) gives you a clue about what the site is loading, or “waiting for,” and (for me) it’s almost always Google Analytics or some other external thing. But in general the site loading is faster since the Vista Moment rebuild (h/t Amk).

    I can see some scenarios in which the “last comments” thing is implemented so clumsily in WordPress (or an add-on) that it would cause problems, but I think it’s a useful enough feature to fix it and keep it if that is the problem. Maybe next rebuild.

    Slightly bummed that we didn’t get a “song of the week” thread from the Can’t Explain guy, because my music gland was revived this week and I had some stuff to contribute, e.g., Milton Nascimento, “Dancing.” (It’s low-volume for the first minute.)

    @Steeplejack: A little present for you. I think this is her best format: uncluttered and pure ass music. Not that I mind her doing duets with gay country singers mind you. :)

    I may have a loading advantage as well: I use an ad blocker. It seems to give me so much less grief browsing around just about anywhere. Sorry JC. I’ll make it up in Amazon purchases.

    @Yutsano:

    I like Grace.

    I have an ad blocker as well.

    Here’s a little (pseudo-)country for you: Paula Cole, “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?”

    I went to lunch with some young friends today and dragged out an old mix CD to play in the car. I had forgotten how exquisite my musical taste is. Both this song and the Nascimento one are on it.

    @Steeplejack: Or eclectic, as it were. :)

    NYD thinks I’m lucky to still be breathing. For a brief moment I considered the possibility I might not be.
