I am sad. I’ve loved Beastie Boys for as long as I can remember. I saw them in concert in D.C. the night before President Obama’s inauguration. Paul’s Boutique is hands down one of the best albums ever made.
Adam Yauch, one-third of the pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 48, Rolling Stone has learned. Yauch, also known as MCA, had been in treatment for cancer since 2009. The rapper was diagnosed in 2009 after discovering a tumor in his salivary gland.
Yauch sat out the Beastie Boys’ induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his treatments delayed the release of the group’s most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2. The Beastie Boys had not performed live since the summer of 2009, and Yauch’s illness prevented the group from appearing in music videos for Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.
So sad.
Update: Beastie Boys and The Pharcyde — it doesn’t get better.

:(
And at 48, too. Damn that’s young. I wonder if the other two plan to keep going…on some level it would be really cool of them to rotate other MCs into that third spot to give younger rappers some shine.
Here’s where I’ll admit to never liking “Sabotage,” though.

Wow, the exact same timestamp as John’s thread. You done got bloghost-empted :(

I LOOOOOVE the video for sabotage.

That Pharcyde video is freaking awesome, and the beat is smooth.
I’ll confess that until five minutes ago, I thought their name was “Pharycide.” Like, Pharaoh-killers.

Damm, that sucks.

When it comes to straight-up hip-hop gold, yeah, it doesn’t get much better than Pharcyde.
I remember bumping Ill Communication to the point that I quite literally wore out the CD. So sad. Who will replace BB now? Who has the juice!?

Yup, Paul’s Boutique. One of those great hip-hop albums that has so many blatant and expensive samples that, if some group were to release it today, it would have to be as a bootleg. But what an amazing record.

Sabatoge is such a sick video.
Put danny trejo and some blood in it and you’ve got yourself a Robert Rodriguez flick =)

RIP Adam.
the BBoys rock.

I saw them at Bonnaroo in 2009, being somewhat advanced in years I was kind of aware of them before that but after seeing them live it was a revelation and I became a fan. What an awful fucking disease. RIP Adam

Totally not my taste, but it’s always sad when a creative person checks out early.

I know people on this blog are supposed to hate the J.J. Abrams “Star Trek” reboot, but I don’t, and I always do get a kick out of young James T. driving a Mustang over the Grand Canyon of Iowa to the strains of “Sabotage” blasting thru that old Blaupunkt or whatever he had … where did they get the gas? Where did they even find a place to air up the tires?
But RIP, MCA. I can’t stand it.

Fuck! I had no idea he was sick. No, wait, ill, and not in the good way.

This hits hard. I was obsessed with the Beastie Boys for a long time and I will always love them. My thoughts are with his family and close friends on this very sad day.
RIP Adam – a generation mourns your loss today.

The Beasties started when I was in high school and thought they were moronic. In truth, they kind of were at first. It took me a long time to recognize that they developed into something good.

A tribute to MCA. You will be missed!

@Egypt Steve: WTF is wrong with the new Trek?
Also, gasoline will still be around, it’ll just be expensive. Just because older gasoline vehicles will be obsolete or uncommon won’t mean that people won’t keep them as hobbies. We keep old Model A Fords in both original and better than original condition. Slight modifications or adaptations are made for the difference between the modern gasoline formulations and what was used back then. Same for oil and other parts.
