Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

So many bastards, so little time.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Republicans do not trust women.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

“They all knew.”

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

“Alexa, change the president.”

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

No one could have predicted…

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

So, funny story, I went across to the company cafeteria to get lunch today and a message came up on the cash register that I had to call my bank to get the transaction approved. I went back to my office and called and it turned out that someone had tried to use my card for two large transactions in Seattle, which my bank found suspicious since I then tried to buy lunch in Los Angeles at the same time.

Fortunately, I had forgotten to do my timecard last week and didn’t get paid this week, so the charges that the thieves tried to make got declined since I only had about $100 in my account and they were trying to charge over $700 of stuff.

Is it wrong that I’m really enjoying the picture of these credit card thieves standing at the Macys counter being told, “Sorry, ma’am, but your card has been declined for insufficient funds”? But they probably had a backup card on some other poor sucker’s account anyway.

Short version: my financial irresponsibility finally paid off!

@psycholinguist: And here’s the thing – EVERY state has people like that, and as such are worth fighting for. The Right Rev makes me proud. No on 1!

    @Grover Gardner:
I don’t care to go to his church, but I really, really do like what he said. I really like the way he said it. I like that he called out the assholes who support and wrote crap like this.
    @psycholinguist:
I get the ready to write off entire states but as you can see that would be wrong. We need more people like this gentleman who will speak up reasonably, truthful. And we need them everywhere. Dr. King was right, the only way to win is to be better than those who oppress, not to be equal to them.

I have more hope that Amendment One will be defeated in NC than it will be in my own state in November. I have heard from my NC peeps that NC is more progressive than it gets credit for, and if Amendment One gets defeated tomorrow, I will readily believe it.

Having lived through, drinking helped alot, the prop H8 ad blitz here in Ca; I do feel for y’all this year up in MN. It was truely the most sleezy political ad campaign I’ve ever seen. This includes Nixon’s re-election, I’m old.

Unfortunately, it looks like Amendment 1 is going to pass here, despite valiant efforts to get out the vote in the liberal enclaves of the state. The conservative churches have been doing all kinds of hate-mongering to get their members out en masse, and there are still more of them than us at this point in time. In fact, one of the co-sponsors of the amendment will tell you that – we’re putting this on the ballot now because we know it won’t be passable 10 years from now. Creeps.

The really sad thing is, as the Reverend mentioned, when people understand the true scope of the law, they reject it by good margins. The right wing (with an assist from the clueless media) has done a good job of clouding the issue and making it seem like a vote for or against traditional marriage. And what good North Carolinian could be against marriage, amirite?

    That gave me goosebumps.

Why can’t the Rev get on national TV? His gravitas is palpable.
