So Dubya — or, as the RNC calls hims, “Who? Oh, That Guy Whose First Term Was All Clinton’s Fault & Whose Second Term Was All Obama’s Fault” — finally got around to endorsing Fortunate Son, Mk. 2. Or as Mr. Pierce says over at Esquire:
There’s a lot to dislike about the report that former president C-Plus Augustus has lined up behind the Romneybot 2.0…
But I think the most conspicuous nugget of Fail shining from the ash heap of history is the explanation for what C-Plus was doing in Washington in the first place:
“I’m for Mitt Romney,” Bush told ABC News this morning as the doors of an elevator closed on him, after he gave a speech on human rights a block from his old home — the White House.
A speech on human rights.
Jesus wept.
George W. Bush is only qualified to talk about human rights if he’s representing the “Anti”, or “Con”, side at an Oxford-style debate.
And if, on his way home from that debate, he were to be seized by the proper authorities, and tried for war crimes. Again.
Villago Delenda Est
You know, I’m just kidding about drawing and quartering Jamie Dimon on the steps of the NYSE.
However, given that we put Germans and Japanese TO DEATH after WWII for the sorts of things that the deserting coward and Darth Cheney did, I am deadly serious about those two maggots paying with their worthless lives for their crimes.
Conspiring to launch a war of aggression is a bright line that should never ever be crossed.
El Tiburon
Fuck.
Jesus is mainlining smack while dropping acid in his eyeballs.
As a people and a country, we pretty much suck.

This might just be a local story for now, but former Red Sox pitcher and registered Republican Curt Schilling started a video game company after retiring from baseball. A couple of years ago he extorted $75 mill in loan guarantees from RI to move his company out of Mass. Now the company is foundering, it looks like the RI taxpayers might be on the hook for most of that $75 mil, and, of course, the “solution” is to extend them more funding. That’s the Republican way, of course.
Irony this thick, I can’t even cut with my sharpest knife.

Curious about where he spoke, I went to abcnews.com and found this:
And also this charming nugget:

For or against? Irony depends on the answer.

Yesterday, in real-time I said the same thing about Shrub giving a speech on human rights. (Witnesses supplied on request.)
I should retire now, as this will be the closest I get to thinking like Charlie Pierce.
Brachiator
@Gin & Tonic:
Not much difference between this and what the an NFL team does when it wants to relocate to another city. And dopes, uh, I mean, sports fans, are only too happy to comply. This kind of crap has got nothing especially to do with the Republican way, but craven and rapacious business practices.
BGinCHI
Bush probably thought they wanted a speech on all the stuff humans are right about, like fresh pepper on a baked potato and supply-side economics.
Teddy's Person
As for W’s future plans (via NYT)
Too bad he didn’t share these strategies when he was, you know, president.
Gin & Tonic
@Brachiator: Except this had nothing to do with any (real or perceived) prestige factor associated with having an NFL team play in your city. It was just about jobs.
One of the kickers is that then-candidate and current Governor, former Republican Linc Chafee, campaigned against extending the loan guarantees. Now that he’s Gov and has been handed this steaming bag of dogshit, he has to deal with the problem while resisting the urge to say “I told you so.”

Since this is an open thread . . .
Can I just complain for a minute?
I just filled out my ballot by mail in California and with redistricting, my incumbent congressional representative switched from Dan Lungren (ew!) to Tom McClintock (double ew!).
I have never even heard of the Dem who is running for congress, but I voted for him, of course.
We now have an “open primary” and that is weird, too. The instructions are “vote for one” and there must have been 25 people running for Dianne Feinstein’s seat. Sheesh.

@Gin & Tonic: I’m sure the House will go all “WORSE THAN SOLYNDRA” on it….

You know, I think that Bush himself believes in compassion and human rights. He is a petty, small-minded, and stupid man, but I don’t believe he is cruel. But he stocked his administration with men clever, evil, and cruel: Cheney, Bolton, Rumsfeld, etc. And he didn’t have the ability to control them or the interest to care. And I’m not even sure that he picked those people. I think they were “chosen” for him. You can tell his picks b/c they’re pretty stupid, like Gonzales.

Sadly, I don’t think Obama would fare well in that debate, either.

No kidding.

The drunk-driving C student and his torturer sidekick believe in human rights — they believe every American has the right to be tortured, to be kidnapped and thrown into a dungeon without charges and without access to a trial or a lawyer. They believe every American has the right to be assassinated whenever the president says so, for whatever reason the president feels like…or for no reason at all.

He should do just fine. You’d be amazed at how much better his record looks if context is allowed, as it would be in a debate. He doesn’t actually have a bad record on human or civil rights at all, he just has a lot of people pulling the equivilant of the Dihydrogen Oxide scare about it.

No doubt.
And if my evangelical brothers are right and Jesus does literally come with a flaming sword to wreak some OT style judgement, I think he’ll judge the “Christian” nation harshest of all for misrepresenting him.

@Scout211:
I’m nervous about it too. Up here on the northcoast (62% D) we have 7 dems vs 2 goopers running for a newly open congressional seat. I worry that the vote will split so much allowing goopers to take the top 2 for Nov. I get that the system is supposed to allow for more people to run but the goopers have already gamed it by limiting the goopers on the ballot.
Comrade Dread
No doubt.

@Nellcote: “but the goopers have already gamed it by limiting the goopers on the ballot.”
The same way Obama gamed the 2008 primaries against Hillary – by reading the rules and taking advantage where possible.
As Obama put it: “I am not against wars in general, but I am against stupid wars.” now put in Democrats where wars are.

Well if he can find an audience to listen, why shouldn’t Bush go around giving speeches about things he knows absolutely nothing about? He must be bored sitting around on the ranch in Texas.

That game was awful.
Ironically, Schilling has been a good force in gaming; he has single handedly kept Advanced Squad Leader alive. But he has always been a money guy, not an ideas guy. Which was a problem when he tried to peddle his meager success in the pen-and-paper space into the AAA game space. And his replacement for vision was a lot “stunt casting”, which never works.

So, Obama didn’t win the majority of the votes in the primaries?
Unlike paultards and republicans, the majority of the votes wins. Not the folks who deny the will of the people.
